Podcasts production and consumption in the Czech Republic with a focus on marketing and business

This diploma thesis is devoted to the phenomenon of podcasting and its definition within the new media. It introduces the term in the context of its history and its current situation on foreign markets, ie the cradle of its origin. It also defines it in detail in terms of its characteristic features, form, content, and in terms of its consumption and creation. It also defines it in the context of other media types such as radio, online video and audiobooks. Attention is also paid to the possibilities of its monetization. The phenomenon is anchored in the context of new media concepts such as produsage, participatory culture and long-tail. Last, but not least, several chapters are devoted to the development of the medium and its current state in the Czech Republic. A significant part of the thesis offers and insight into the patterns of media usage by Czech listeners, as well as an insight into the current podcasting scene through the eyes of podcast creators with a focus on marketing and business. Based on quantitative survey among the listeners, the characteristics of media usage, its socio-cultural aspects, motivations to listen, opinions on the diversity of Czech offerings and the perception of advertising in podcasts were further explored. Podcasting as a New Media Phenomenon and its Current State in the Czech Republic

This MA thesis is devoted to podcasting, one of the phenomena of new media. It describes its origins and development; in greater detail it deals with the present state and characteristic features of podcasts from the viewpoint of their contents, forms, user practice, ways of financing, and also technological perspectives. Attention is focused on elements which interconnect podcasting with radio and radio programmes and also on their differences. The phenomenon is presented in the context of chosen concepts related to web 2.0. Several chapters focussed generally on the development and present state of podcasting are devoted to the situation in the Czech Republic. The research part then provides insight into the present situation from the point of view of independent podcast creators, with whom half-structured interviews were carried out. On the basis of a qualitative analysis of these interviews, several types of attitudes to podcasting and a number of factors related to production of podcasts were identified - primarily motivations to create them as well as some discouraging aspects. Mobile App for Receiving Podcasts and Audeliver.com

The aim of this thesis is to implement a mobile application for receiving podcasts from Audeliver service. It is using modern graphic design for user interface based on Material Design. The application provides automatic synchronization of podcasts and downloading of newest episodes. All information about all episodes are  saved into the Realm database. Individual chapters explain theoretical information about podcasts and developing of applications for Android platform. The other chapters describe design, testing, and implementation of the MyPodcasts application.

Bořivoj Brdička, Ph.D. ABSTRACT: Use of podcast as an educational medium is the principal and crucial topic of this thesis. The diploma thesis is focused on history and development of this phenomenon and points to the possibilities of podcast use at primary schools. The goal of this thesis is to show not only the advantages and benefit of the podcast for pupils and the teacher, but also to highlight the possible problems during its use and introduction. The theoretical part is dealing with aspects and podcast use at schools and provides an overview of existing researches. The other part is giving us an overview of existing solutions and good examples of practice at Czech schools and schools in abroad. The main part represents an experiment description including own solution proposal used at the primary school in Staňkov. This thesis can serve as a podcast guide for other possible interested persons striving for similar activities. Application for Audeliver.com Downloading

The aim of this work is to create an application to download and play podcasts. I focused mainly on the simplicity of the application design and creating a pleasant user environment. The application is programmed in Swift and uses modern elements of graphic application interface in iOS. I was able to test the application on users and optimize its hardware requirements. I managed to successfully optimize hardware requirements of the application and expand its use to more Apple devices. The benefit of this work is new knowledge of application development, but also respect for human interface guidelines. Since the app uses modern language and brings modern means of implementation, its main benefit is that it shows the direction the application development is headed.
Implement Android Application for Download and Listening to Audio Podcasts

This bachelor thesis deals with implementation of an Android application for downloading and listening to the audio podcasts. Application is mainly focused on a friendly user interface and integration of the podcast service Audeliver. The first part of this thesis contains theoretical specifications of the platform and analysis of the existing solutions. The second part is concentrated into the actual application design, implementation and testing. The final part reviews the progress of the final application and presents possibilities of the potential development.

An application for managing and listening of audio podcasts was chosen to be developed. This thesis will guide the reader through general topics and issues of "User Experience" research, its usage and specification on mobile devices and actual design and the implementation of developed application. Results of this work can be used for the development of applications with respect to user centered design.
Uses of Web 2.0 in Practice

Web 2.0 is a term describing the second stage of the web devel-opment in which static websites and presentations have trans-formed and continue to transform into a dynamic environment filled with user interaction and interpersonal communication. The aim of the diploma thesis was to introduce the reader to the term Web 2.0, describe the possibilities of its use and point out examples of successful application in practice. The first part of the diploma thesis tries to explain the term Web 2.0, define its basic properties and specify its typical ap-plications. The second part characterizes new generations of Internet users, provides description of the individual uses of Web 2.0 tools and services and summarizes their advantages and disadvantages. The final chapter provides examples of the use of the said tech-nologies and processes in practice which serve as a basis for evaluation of the current approaches and recommendations for potential users.
Use of Web 2.0 technologies in education

The thesis Use of Web 2.0 technologies in education introduces the concept of Web 2.0 and its basic characteristics. The first chapter is based on the explanation of major tools and technologies labelled as Web 2.0. The second chapter deals with specific services which have already found its place in education process. The same chapter evaluates the ways of dealing with their appropriate use, particularly in higher education. This chapter contains also the examples of successful use in education. The thesis is mainly concerned about using Web 2.0 tools in the environment of Czech schools. As Web 2.0 services are not new, I asked students and teachers at the University of Economics in Prague and asked what experience they have with such instruments in their personal life, so in context of education. The third chapter is entirely devoted to survey the use of Web 2.0 tools in the practice of The University of Economics in Prague. Content of the final chapter is a reflection of what direction the web will evolve in the coming years. It also evaluates social issues associated with the turbulent development of the Internet and Web 2.0.
