Irish Neutrality in the Context of European Integration
Knotková, Barbora ; Váška, Jan (advisor) ; Šlosarčík, Ivo (referee)
The thesis deals with the topic of Irish neutrality in the context of European integration and verifies the statement that Ireland participated in the processes of European integration in the 21st century only in a way that did not threaten its neutrality. The main part of the thesis focuses on three specific events, specifically the approval of the Lisbon Treaty, the Treaty of Nice and Permanent Structured Cooperation (PESCO). These are the three most crucial moments of the 21st century European integration, which involved the issue of Irish neutrality. The thesis uses these three cases to prove that Ireland's involvement in the European integration architecture was in line with Irish political neutrality and without posing any threat to it. Worries about neutrality in Ireland result from EU cooperation in the area of CFSP and concerns about the creation of a European army, searching in all the monitored ways. The Treaty of Nice was not approved in the first referendum and the public sought confirmation that the Treaty of Nice will not threat or affect Irish policy of neutrality from both Irish Government and other Member States. Only then did they accept the Treaty in the second referendum. A similar situation occurred in the case of Lisbon Treaty, which was not approved until the second...
Brexit and its implications for European integration
Hecht, Petr ; Kučerová, Irah (advisor) ; Plechanovová, Běla (referee)
The diploma thesis Brexit and its implications for European integration uses the method of explanatory case study in an effort to analyze the causes and impacts of the Great Britain's withdrawal from the European Union. The thesis therefore examines the historical context of the complicated relations between Great Britain and the European Communities from their formation in the 1950s to the present, which ultimately led to the historic step of United Kingdom's withdrawal from the EU on 31 January 2020. The thesis then maps the negotiations regarding the Withdrawal Agreement and the future arrangement of mutual relations, which took place between 2016 - 2020. The effects of the UK's withdrawal from the EU on the composition and functioning of the European institutions and the impact of the changes on the remaining member states are also analyzed. In addition, the work presents possible arrangements of economic relations between the two parties, which are currently the subject of negotiations between the UK and the EU during the transitional period from 1 February 2020 to 31 December 2020. Lastly, the thesis works with the White Paper presented by the European Commission in 2017 in order to analyze five possible scenarios for the future development of European integration. For this, the thesis...

Konvergencia zemí strednej a východnej Európy
Jesenská, Denisa
The thesis deals with the term convergence in connection with the countries of Central and Eastern Europe. In the 1990s, the transition process of centrally planned economies into market economies occurred in the countries in question. The countries had been isolated for almost half a century from a market-oriented economic system. The aim of the thesis is therefore to assess to what extent there is convergence between the more advanced states of Western Europe and the post-Soviet countries. Fulfillment of the objective of the thesis will be realized by analyzing the development of economic and non-economic indicators in the countries under review and assessing their convergence rate. Another aim of the thesis is to identify the main causes of different convergence rates between countries.
Euroskepticismus v České republice
Gřešák, Dominik
Eurosceptic ideas in the Czech Republic (hereinafter the “ČR”) began to spread more especially since the ratification of the Lisbon Treaty and they strengthened with increasing global problems, which did not help this sentiment in any way. Negative politicians' opinions regarding the EU may eventually undermine the confidence of Czech citizens in the EU and therefore have an impact on the overall relationship of the ČR with this European political-economic union. The thesis will offer a list and analysis of specific Eurosceptic topics in the ČR. The research will examine the current political situation in the ČR in relation to Euroscepticism, and its results will reflect on how Euroscepticism is manifested in the political discourse of the Czech political parties that were, in the 2017 parliamentary elections, elected into the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament. The thesis will analyze the Eurosceptic situation in the ČR at the political level in 2018 and will focus on the negative references regarding the EU, which were mentioned by the above Czech political parties.
The Attitudes of the Czech Republic's Presidents towards the European Integration
Simon, Filip ; Ditrych, Ondřej (advisor) ; Knutelská, Viera (referee)
The main aim of this rigorosum thesis is to interpret the development of attitudes of three Czech presidents to the process of European integration in a broader international context. The thesis answers the question of which topics they dealt with in relation to European unification, how their attitudes differed and whether those attitudes had been changing over time. Within the framework of theoretical anchoring, the thesis inclines to the perspective of social constructivism and from an epistemological point of view, it is based on an interpretative qualitative research based on the method of critical discourse analysis. Departing from the studied texts, the thesis concludes that Europe of Václav Havel was not an economic or geographical concept, but exclusively a philosophical concept, as he perceived Europe primarily as a spiritual unit. Havel was also a supporter of the federalized European Union, in which the Czech Republic would increase its international political influence. Václav Klaus had a significantly different opinion which defended the intergovernmental model of governance and he considered the merging of Europe with the European Union at the European level a methodological mistake. Maintaining the concept of national states was a necessary condition for maintaining the regime of...

Burda, Petr ; Angelovská, Olga (advisor) ; Kotrusová, Miriam (referee)
The master's thesis deals with the Social Policy of the European Union, its development and current trends. Approaching the process the Social policy at the European level has undergone such directions managed its integration, and what has remained the exclusive competence of the individual Member States. The aim of the paper is a summary of developments up to the present, whether the European Union is to acquire competence in this field, which belonged for a long time largely outside the integration process. The second objective is to analyze whether the European Union sets achievable goals in the field of Social Policy. The analysis is primarily focused on the two most recent strategies, namely the Lisbon Strategy (from 2000 - 2010) and the current strategy Europe 2020 (term 2010 - 2020). These particular cases were selected because European Union has set clear objectives for which it is easy to point out whether they were accomplished or not. The results of the analysis is that the EU has done in the Social Policy field a great achievements, but often sets very ambitious goals, which is not currently able to provide. Social policy has remained in the control of national states, but the Commission has managed, at least partly, to coordinate the processes and practices that each Member State has...
EU Policy towards autonomous regions with a potential to be independent - Catalonia and Scotland
Havlín, Kryštof ; Mejstřík, Martin (advisor) ; Kasáková, Zuzana (referee)
The bachelor's thesis aims to analyze the policy of the European Union towards European autonomous regions which have the potential to become independent. It focuses especially on the issue of EU membership for regions that have a tendency to separate from an EU Member State. Two major separatist events took place in the European Union in the last decade. In 2014, Scotland declared a referendum approved by the central government on independence from the UK. In 2017, the independent Republic of Catalonia, that wanted to secede from the Kingdom of Spain on the basis of an illegal referendum, was declared. The passive attitude of the European Union towards the aggravated situation in the territory of its member state led me to address the issue from the perspective of the EU whose representatives consider these developments to be internal affairs of the states. The main goal of the bachelor's thesis is to find out what the approach of the EU to the mentioned regions is in terms of potential membership in case these regions become independent. At the same time, the bachelor's thesis should clarify why the European Union holds these positions and what their legal framework is. The paper also presents hypothetical scenarios for the accession of potentially independent regions of Catalonia and Scotland to...
The Cross-Border cooperation of Health Emergency Services in the Sumava Euroregion
Honsová, Eliška ; Bauer, Paul (advisor) ; Weiss, Tomáš (referee)
The diploma thesis deals with a case of cross-border cooperation in the European Union, namely the cross-border cooperation of health emergency services in the Šumava Euroregion. The research focuses mainly on how this cooperation has been arranged and how the European integration theory can be applied to this case study. The diploma thesis analyzes the role of different actors, what contracts were needed for the cross-border cooperation, how the negotiationof the project took place, where the initiative for this cross-border cooperation originated or what complications occurred. The topic of cross-border cooperation of health emergency services is a practical example of European integration and therefore it also includes the study of cross-border cooperation of regions in the European Union, the role of EU funds for regional development and last but not least the EU health policy. The thesis is based on the theory of European territorial integration, which is characterized by the disappearance of the border and suppression of the unilateral orientation of the state inland. Furthermore, there are related theories of regional development and new regionalism. It also works with the theory of shared sovereignty, which inevitably comes with deeper integration. The theme of the diploma theses is time...
Role of the European Council in the pre-legislative stage of the EU legislative process
Hendrych, Lukáš ; Knutelská, Viera (advisor) ; Landovský, Jakub (referee)
The aim of the master thesis "The role of the European Council in the pre-legislative phase of the European legislative process" is to analyse position and influence of the European Council before proposing an official legislative proposal by the European Commission in the EU's legislative process. This pre-legislative phase of a designing of a European legislation is important, though informal. The aim of this master thesis it to find out how strong is the European Council in an agenda setting when it comes to a European legislation and to what extent the Commission is inspired or follows the European Council's conclusions when proposing a legislation. According to many authors who this thesis referring to and their research that this thesis follows, an importance and influence of the European Council has been growing a lot, recently. In their view, it has been happening primarily during serious political or economic crisis. The Commission's position as the only official proposer of a European legislation weakens in that moments while influence of the EU summits grows. The question is if it is true and how much we can really argue that during European crisis the EU's executive power is so weakened that it does not - without ex ante "permission" and ex ante "consultation" with the summits - allow...
