Numerosity in college students
KRATOCHVÍLOVÁ, Dominika
This bachelor thesis focuses on problems of numerosity among university students studying humanities. The aim is to compare mathematical abilities and rough mathematical estimation of people studying humanities. The theoretical part deals with mathematical abilities and their disruption, numerosity and especially the definition of the aproximal numerical system. Electroencephalography or EEG, which is the method by which the data for this research was obtained, is described. The practical part is divided into two parts, when the probands are tested first. It works with a standardized test, which further allows to divide probands into mathematically gifted and non-gifted. The main part of the research is the analysis of acquired data using electroencephalograph (EEG), which enables comparison between the above mentioned target groups. The aim of this thesis is to extend information about numerosity. The research included a total of 8 probands, who were at the age from 19 to 25. The results of this research showed that, in contrast to previous research, when there was significant activity in the parietal part on the left side, significant activity could be seen in the parietal-occipital and occipital regions on both sides (not just the left side). In addition, a correlation was demonstrated in probands who achieved above-average results in the Intelligence Test (IST Structure Test) and the rough mathematical estimate was processed faster. Probands who achieved below-average results in the Intelligence Test had slower processing of rough mathematical estimation. However, it turned out that although probands with above-average mathematical intelligence processed the result sooner, their reaction time was longer.
Epimeleia: Care for the Soul
Policoff, Brian ; Hogenová, Anna (advisor) ; Rybák, David (referee) ; Semrádová, Ilona (referee)
The purpose of this work is to introduce the subject of Epimeleia (care) as the necessary and fundamental premise of educational endeavours. The focus of these endeavours is not directed toward any fixed point but instead, driven by attention to and delight in the process. The outcome of this human experience in becoming, is absent of any goal, beyond that of a life well-led. Abstract Educators remain the most instrumental force toward the develop of the next generation of people, who will in turn be representative of the era to come. Rediscovering the fundamental purpose of the Educator is paramount toward a world of authenticity, fulfillment, and truth. Since the time of Socrates, care for the soul of mankind has been the course toward enlightenment. Through Anamnesis we emerge as we uncover the truth that was hidden. Over the millennia however, education has lost its way and become a means of control and manipulation. Teaching is predicated on the answer not the question. The world has become one of certainty and absolutism. The Educational Industrial complex is manufacturing people as tools toward their own end. Teachers are products of an Economic Zeitgeist that has designed the very foundations of their worldview. They have embraced the false logic of the scientific society however, there is hope....
Model of Comparison for World Intelligence Communities
Bouchard, Claire ; Kofroň, Jan (advisor) ; Doboš, Bohumil (referee)
This thesis focuses on whether we can create a categorizational model for foreign intelligence communities and if we can identify factors that will help us predict those foreign intelligence communities' effectiveness in counterterrorism. In order to determine this, the author based one of her main factors on the 1995 Sederberg article that separates counterterrorism models into three main categories: (1) War Model, (2) Criminal Model, and (3) Disease Model. She also relates these models to three of the main geopolitical schools of thought as follows: (1) War Model - Realism, (2) Criminal Model - Liberalism, and (3) Disease Model - Constructivism. The second main factor analyzed here is the centralization of the intelligence community. This clearly affects the consistency of the counterterrorism message being encouraged by the state, as well as the speed with which the Intelligence Community can respond to an emergency situation. The key contributions of this thesis lie in the creation of the comparison model and the subsequent analysis of the six case studies. This model combines and acknowledges theories of counterterrorism effectiveness that have not been previously studied together and is also a useful comparison tool for foreign intelligence agencies without running into many of the same...
Targeted killing: How and when intelligence agencies eliminate their targets and the impact of emerging technologies
Nguyen, Ba Nguyen ; Střítecký, Vít (advisor) ; Tesař, Jakub (referee)
History has shown that assassination could be wielded as an effective weapon in the pursuit of interest, security and power. As the feudal age neared its end in Europe, nation states emerged. Despite its pragmatic usefulness, assassination was considered unfit for this new form of governance. States no longer sought to destroy one another as predicted by Thomas Hobbes, but adhered to John Locke's proposed values, which believed that states could mutually exist as rivals. In this system which favored negotiation and settlements, it was difficult for assassination to have a place. Yet at the start of the 21st century, assassination once again saw employment. As of today, it is preferably referred to as targeted killing by its employers and has become somewhat of a 'new normal.' Clearly, there must be certain permissive catalysts that allowed this to happen. This master's thesis firstly explores the ways the United States, Israel and Russia conduct their assassination/targeted killing operations to present the unique ways these states eliminate their enemies, and secondly pinpoints the permissive causes that allowed these three super and great powers of assassination to transform the international norm against assassination and turn a dishonest, immoral practice into something more acceptable and fit...
Relationships among characteristics perceived from photos of faces
Machová, Kamila ; Flegr, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Děchtěrenko, Filip (referee)
Estimating others characteristics from facial cues plays an important role in our everyday lives. People usually agree in these estimates well and many of these estimates correlate. Majority studies consider one or few character- istics only and their respondents usually are in narrow ranges of ages. This study is partly based on rating of 13 characteristics of 80 men's and women's faces by respondents of various ages. These data were originally collected within yet unpublished study of Jaroslav Flegr, Amy E. Blum and Šebastian Kroupa. In this study I most strikingly found out that: i) older respondents of both genders rates photos of women as more attractive, ii) respondents spend more time by rating faces considered by themselves as more attractive or nice, iii) men rate people with different eye color as more attractive and women rate others with the same eye color as nicer, iv) preferences computed by two methods do not differ much. 1
Testing of Recognizing Spatial Intelligence
Malý, Tomáš ; Škutková, Helena (referee) ; Sekora, Jiří (advisor)
This thesis deals with measurement issues in psychology, specifically online diagnostics of spatial abilities. It gives a brief look on psychological construct of intelligence and methods of measuring it, currently in the context of the most spread theory of intelligence C-H-C (Cattell- Horn-Carroll). This thesis focuses on ability called „Visualization“, that is understood as the ability to process visual perceptions and manipulate them in our imagination. The thesis includes functional software, which is made for online computer testing of spatial abilities in children of preschool, or school age.
Image similarity measuring using deep learning
Štarha, Dominik ; Šeda, Pavel (referee) ; Rajnoha, Martin (advisor)
This master´s thesis deals with the reseach of technologies using deep learning method, being able to use when processing image data. Specific focus of the work is to evaluate the suitability and effectiveness of deep learning when comparing two image input data. The first – theoretical – part consists of the introduction to neural networks and deep learning. Also, it contains a description of available methods, their benefits and principles, used for processing image data. The second - practical - part of the thesis contains a proposal a appropriate model of Siamese networks to solve the problem of comparing two input image data and evaluating their similarity. The output of this work is an evaluation of several possible model configurations and highlighting the best-performing model parameters.
Ceramics and educational benefits for preschool children.
ZEMANOVÁ, Dana
The bachelor thesis is focused on monitoring the development of the creativity of pre-school age children. The thesis is conceived as theoretically - empirical. The aim of the thesis is to determine how the creativity and the fantasy of the pre-school children develops, depending on the systematic work with ceramic clay. It also aims to find out the possibilities of using the work with ceramic clay, verifies its educational gains and benefits from this art activity in pre-school children. The theoretical part deals with the contemporary view of creativity, the development of the child in relation to creativity, the use of the Framework Educational Program of pre-school education in visual arts activities and the familiarization with project teaching and project creation. The empirical part then aims at examining how creativity develops in pre-school children, depending on the systematic work with ceramic clay, and how this activity has further educational benefits. For this purpose, an art project for preschool children is developed and evaluated. In the research part, interviews with the respondents involved in the project, which map the possibilities of using the work with ceramic clay, are evaluated.
