The US Financial Market Uncertainty and Its Spillover to European Stock Markets
Karolík, Richard ; Horváth, Roman (advisor) ; Kočenda, Evžen (referee)
This thesis studies the spillover of the financial market uncertainty arising from the United States to three major European stock markets by analyzing the impulse response functions that were estimated using the local projections method. European stock markets are represented by their corresponding in- dices: the DAX 30 index for Germany, the CAC 40 for France, and the FTSE 100 for the United Kingdom. The results prove the existence of uncertainty spillover from the United States into Europe with the negative relationship be- tween the performance of a particular stock market and the uncertainty shock emerging from the US. Additional analysis examines the response to uncer- tainty shock for the two subsamples based on the Lehman Brothers collapse. The results show a possible interesting improvement in the ability to recover from uncertainty shock since the collapse of Lehman Brothers and can serve as a starting point for the further analyses in the field. The Effect of Kinesio Tape on the Muscle Activation of the Long Head of the Biceps in Baseball Players
Truesdale, Joseph ; Musálek, Martin (advisor) ; Malá, Jitka (referee)
Thesis Title: The Effect of Kinesio Tape (KT) on the Muscle Activation of the Long Head of the Biceps in Baseball Players. Objective: KT is one of several treatment techniques in injury prevention and treatment for high demand movements, such as overhead throwing. The baseball throwing motion, or the overhead throwing motion, places tremendous stress on the shoulder where coordination of its subsequent musculature, such as the long head of the biceps, are crucial. As a result, injuries do occur. However, the acute effect of KT on the muscular activity of the LHB is not well known. The aim of this thesis is to verify that the application of KT to the skin located superficially to the Long Head of the Biceps increases its activity in the baseball throwing motion. Methods: The research sample included 21 active Czech Extraliga baseball players (21 male, aged 25.3 ±5.9 years, height 183.2 ±6.9 cm, weight 83.8 ±11.1 kg, years baseball of participation 17.1 ±6.5 years), which reported no current or recent shoulder pain or injury. The surface Electromyograph (sEMG) of the muscle activity from each subject was collected using a Bittium Biomonitor transmitter and receiver, model ME6000 (Bittium Inc. Oulu, Finland). There was recorded Maximum Voluntary Isometric Contraction (MVIC) activity of the Long Head...

Votlučková, Kristýna ; Křemen, Pavel (advisor) ; Lebedová, Veronika (referee)
The bachelor's thesis Comparison of the original sound and Czech dubbing in the TV series Friends deals with the analysis of differences in the original sound and in the dubbing of the American TV series Friends. The Friends series is an American sitcom that aired on NBC from September 22, 1994 to May 6, 2004. The series focuses on the lives of six friends between the ages of 20 and 30 who live in Manhattan, New York City. During the ten years of broadcasting, the show received many awards and became one of the most popular television shows in history. The series has thus become a phenomenon that still affects and entertains viewers around the world. In the Czech Republic, a dubbed version of the TV show began broadcasting on Ceska televize in 1996. The Czech dubbing of the series was directed by Ales Sobotka, led by the creative group of Alena Polednakova and Vladimir Tisnovsky. There are many arguments for and against dubbing or subtitling TV shows. What determines dubbing or subtitling, as the main method of television translation in a country, is influenced by a complex number of factors, such as price, availability of relevant technology, literacy level etc. The overall meaning and context may therefore be quite different from the original version if the translation is dubbed or subtitled. Cause and effect in written Czech of the Czech Deaf
Nedbalová, Žofie ; Richterová, Klára (advisor) ; Macurová, Alena (referee)
This thesis focuses on how the cause and the effect are expressed in the written Czech texts of Czech deaf people (i. e. those, who don't have full access to spoken language due to their hearing loss). The first part of the thesis, based on Czech grammar books, presents the meaning of terms cause and effect, or causal and consequential relationships, and it attempts to summarize the language tools, by which are these relationships expressed in Czech. The second part of the thesis is devoted to the analysis of the texts written by Czech deaf people and attempts to compare the linguistic means used in texts of the deaf people with the linguistic means used by the Czech hearing majority. The analysed material consists of 1 310 statements containing expressions of cause and effect, which are excerpted from texts of 167 deaf authors. The analysed material contains both school assignments, which deaf students provided directly for analysis included in this thesis, and the texts included in the corpus DEAF. The description and analysis of the written texts puts emphasis on linguistic means and ways of expressing cause and effect that differ from the commonly used language and on probable origins of these differences, especially on possible interferences from the Czech Sign Language.
