FIŠAROVÁ, Alena
The aim of this bachelor´s thesis is to bring us closer to the origin and course of the communist regime in the village of Velká Losenice through the testimony of five witnesses. One of the main benefits of the work is the narrators statements that contain specific information about the situation at that time. Testimonies are provided not only by the descendants of peasant families, but also from earlier landless persons, small farmers and members of the Communist Party. Their testimony serves as valuable material for establishing the overall picture of the village. Another crucial point of the thesis are the criminal charges of the prosecuted "rural rich" and the impact of this imprisonment on other farmers. The result of this exploration follows the successes and failures of the establishment of the collective socialist enterprise, and creates a complex form of rural society and relations between citizens. This thesis follows the post-war period (1945/1948), the establishing of the Unified Agricultural Cooperative and the subsequent epoch of its development, which is generally monitored up to the year 1989.
Underground as a political phenomenon
Denčevová, Ivana ; Junek, Marek (advisor) ; Horák, Vladimír Jaromír (referee)
Czech underground and underground movements in other states share some common characteristics. In communistic Czechoslovakia, underground became an exceptional and unique phenomenon in spite of its typical non-political character - it served as a base for the establishment of the Charta 77 opposition movement. It hereby became a political phenomenon and an integral part of political opposition life before November 1989. In my research I have focused on an approximately five-year period of this fundamental epoch of the Czech underground development. I have used evidences provided by contemporary witnesses, worked with archive materials and studied works available in this field.
Legal Forms of persecution of citizens in the Protectorate 1939-1945 in comparison with the occupied Netherlands
Mamrilla, Filip ; Kuklík, Jan (advisor) ; Skřejpková, Petra (referee)
Legal Forms of persecution of citizens in the Protectorate 1939-1945 in comparison with the occupied Netherlands In 1939, Czechoslovakia was destroyed by Nazi Germany without a single shot. Less than a year later, the Netherlands was conquered by the German army in the course of Blitzkrieg in the West. Both countries remained under occupation for almost six years, while their citizens faced an unprecedented persecution. Since these countries share a lot of commonalities, concerning size of their territory, wartime development and the form of occupation, they proved to be an ideal example to provide the comparison of the Nazi occupation regime in Western and Eastern Europe. Bohemia and Moravia joined the Reich as a protectorate, an institute of international public law that was very rare in the European context. Kingdom of Netherlands was transformed into so-called Reichskommisariat, a provisional arrangement that was supposed mainly to maintain public order in order to secure the industrial production. In the first place, this thesis trying to describe the distinction that the Nazis were making between occupied territories in the West and in the East in terms of ideology, because it greatly affected their approach to these countries and the intensity of the repression. The Netherlands was perceived by Nazi...

This work examines the prosecution of the Roman Catholic Church in the Communist-ruled Czechoslovak Republic. The first part analyzes the mutual relationship of the communist ideology and the Roman Catholic Church. The basic tenets of communism are presented via the works of Karl Marx, Vladimir Ilyich Lenin and consecutive texts labeled Marxist- Leninist. The thoughts of the church are presented through the statements of several popes that took a stand against the ideals of communism and the atrocities committed in their name. The second chapter analyzes the individual steps the Communist-controlled state took against the church. Particular attention is devoted to the period from the February 1948 Communist takeover up to the end of the 1950s. This period can be further divided into three phases, distinguished by the differing tactics employed by the Communist Party. In the first phase, the Communists were attempting to subdue the church, the second phase was characteristic by very ruthless prosecution of the church officials, while the hallmark of the third phase was mainly a systematic policy of atheization. The aim of this work is a comparison of the ideological underpinnings of the Communist ideology with the real-world practice of the attempted elimination of religion from society. Focus is...
Action Stones and the stories of witnesses
Ježková, Anna ; Michela, Miroslav (advisor) ; Stehlík, Michal (referee)
(in English) The following Bachelor's thesis deals with emigration attempts of Czechoslovak citizens after 1948. It focuses on those border crossing efforts which were connected to operation "KAMEN" in which the StB (Statni bezpecnost, the civilian state security apparatus), on purpose, provoked citizens who opposed the Communist regime to illegaly cross the border. However, the crossing of the border was only feigned and was fully under the StB control. The StB arrested the participants and persecuted them. The thesis is based on the analysis of interrogation records of the arrested. These records, which are kept in the Archive of Security Services (Archiv bezpečnostních složek), contain thorough biographical information, descriptions of the course of the operation, and reasons which led to the aforementioned border crossing attempts. This thesis contains the description of the course of the crossings and also explains the reasons which people had for the crossing itself - whether their reasons were personal or connected to their opposition of the political situation.
