Water retention capacity of humic substances
Cihlář, Zdeněk ; Šmejkalová, Daniela (referee) ; Kučerík, Jiří (advisor)
Humic acids were extracted from South Moravian lignit. That humic sample was oxidized by either H2O2 or HNO3. In next step, oxidized humic acids were polymerized by formaldehyde in order to obtain cross-linked structures with improved water retention capacity. Affinity to water and water retention capacity of obtained products were studied by thermal analysis (DSC – differential scanning calorimetry and TGA – thermogravimetric analysis). In order to study above-mentioned parameters two different methods were used. First approach represented sorption of water to humic acids from three controlled humidities, for description of those processes TGA measurement was used. Second study was based on the DSC monitoring of water excess sorption. Results obtained from TGA measurements showed an increasing sorption ability with increasing relative humidity of the environment. DSC measurerents in hermetically sealed containers resulted in an increasing content of water bound by humic acids structures. All the modified samples of humic acids (oxidized as well as oxidized and modified by formaldehyde) gave higher retention capacity in comparion with the parental humic sample.

Hlaváčková, Martina ; Liptáková, Zuzana (advisor) ; Nazarenko, Liliya (referee)
"The questions about the meaning of the preposition "no" in Russian literature" The tendered diploma work is focused on issues of the relations sense mediated by the preposition no in fiction and on the options of its translation. It is my intention to compare the occurance frequence of the separate meanings in constructions with no in fiction of 19. and 20. century. The theoretical part deals with the information from the scientific literature related to prepositions and and typical qualities of no itself. Special attention is dedicated to its mening. What concerns the practical part, there is a suggested process for gaining and processing of the material exempted of the texts on the first place. On its base the picked pieces of fiction are analysed. The gained results are evaluated, compared and completed by a comment. According to the analyzed stuff it is clear that the meaning of the preposition no depends on the text character. Also the options of the translation are linked with that.

Lexical bundles in academic lectures
Leško, Marek ; Klégr, Aleš (referee) ; Malá, Markéta (advisor)
Lexical Bundles in Academic Lectures (BA thesis abstract by Marek Leško) The work attempts to briefly outline the current state of knowledge on the subject of lexical bundles and investigate their functions and use in two sets of academic lectures, British and American. For this purpose, it uses lecture transcripts from BASE (British Academic Spoken English) and MICASE (Michigan Corpus of Academic Spoken English) corpora. In the theoretical part, lexical bundles are defined as recurrent expressions of three and more words that are identified by statistical means (at least 20 occurrences per million words, for instance) only with no regard for structural completeness or perceptual salience. The work presents general characteristics of lexical bundles as typically non-idiomatic, structurally incomplete units and sorts them into several structural categories typical of conversation or academic prose. Three main functions of lexical bundles are identified: stance expressions, discourse organizers and references. Finally, the study discusses lexical bundles in terms of cohesion, i.e. how these recurrent expressions are used as surface links within the discourse to signal mostly intrasentential relations that fulfill the role of linking adverbials. In the practical (research) part, the thesis presents data...
