Face recognition and emotional expression processing in primates
Englerová, Kateřina ; Nekovářová, Tereza (advisor) ; Fajnerová, Iveta (referee)
Visual modality is one of the most important senses for primates and also for many other an-imals. It allows them to perceive stimuli from their environment - important objects and places, and also conspecifics or individuals of other species. One of the crucial cognitive skills, especially for social animals, is the ability to distinguish between individuals and their emotions due to different facial features and expressions.Aim of this work is to summarize the current knowledge about face and emotion recognition. It includes neurological mechanisms, experimental methodologies and comparison between species.

3D Reconstruction of extinct parts in the Dobříš town
Koucká, Lucie ; Štych, Přemysl (advisor) ; Oršulák, Tomáš (referee)
The main object of this thesis is the reconstruction and visualization of multidimensional model with using geographic information systems. The thesis deals with issues associated with the above mentioned topic as well. The 3D reconstruction relates to the Mírové square in the Dobříš town, which was affected by the redevelopment in the second half of the 20th century. During creating the 3D model, there was an endeavour to capture the best appearence of the area before this change. The reconstruction, created mainly by ArcScene, was made by using historical photos, aerial photographs and other data. Two softwares are tested and compared during modelling of 3D buildings - Bentley Microstation and Google SketchUp. Fly-by animations and pictures are the thesis results, being confronted with historical photographs.

Burial rite of hunter DV 16 from paleontology and palaeoethnology point view
Nývltová Fišáková, Miriam ; Sázelová, S.
During the archaeological research, which was made at the locality Dolní Věstonice was uncovered a recessed hut. Compared to the rest of settlement the animals from this object are remarkably distinguishing. The bones of foxes, hares and wolves are closely concetrated to each other, so it seems that they were mostly in the anatomic position and that they are belonging to one individual. In addition these bones are constituing noticeable accumulations around the body of deceased. All animals were hunted in the early spring (February-April), which is resulting from the analysis of the seasonal increaments of the cementum on the roots of teeth. It seems that these animals were probably given to the deceased man, so they could indirectly show the time period of the hunter’s burial.

Quality TV : explained, exemplified by Czech television programm "Q"
Beladová, Michaela ; Šoltys, Otakar (advisor) ; Reifová, Irena (referee)
Thesis Quality television: To what extent does a Czech program "Q" fulfill the criteria of this concept explains the term quality television which is basically unknown among Czech scholars. Firstly, it describes its development, criteria and use. The following part of this paper describes the program "Q" itself, which focuses on a queer minority, and is being broadcasted by Czech television. The program has been analyzed using a semiotic analysis of television. The animated open (theme) of the program has been studied thoroughly; I also tried to find commonalities for other parts appearing frequently in episodes. A closer approach has been given to three chosen parts as the representatives of the program - two reports and one interview - which should make the structure and the coverage of the program easier to understand. The first report talks about the idea of pregnant men, the second part is an interview of the editor-in-chief of the British lifestyle magazine for men, Attitude, and the third (a report) covers transsexual people and the possibility of surgery in order to change their sex. A detailed analysis focuses on all three parts of the program: the visual, auditive and textual part. Based on the results of this analysis, some 12 criteria of quality, which were defined by Robert J. Thompson...

Neurorehabilitation after brain injury. Therapeutic possibilities.
Angerová, Yvona ; Lippertová-Grünerová, Marcela (advisor) ; Jeřábek, Jaroslav (referee) ; Kozler, Petr (referee)
Neurorehabilitation is a multidisciplinary rehabilitation process used in patients with neurological diseases. These patients have not only movement disorders but also cognitive and neurobehavioral problems as well as aphasias. Their rehabilitation is a long term process and the results are often unsatisfactory. Neuroplasticity - physiological basis for neurorehabilitation induces functional restitution or recovery after secondary brain damage. Various neuroprotective substances (e.g. erythropoietin - EPO) are tested to empower mechanisms of plasticity after brain injury. Preclinical studies testing efficacy of those substances in animal brain damage models are essential to prepare clinical trials. The aim of the study was to reveal the influence of EPO combined with rehabilitation on functional outcomes after global cerebral hypoxia. FIM (Functional independence measure) test was used for functional evaluation and Meilli test for visual memory of the patients who attended special program for rehabilitation in clinical part. Patients who came earlier had better prognosis than patients who came later. In experimental part three-months old male Wistar albino rats were exposed to hypobaric hypoxia for 60 minutes in an experimental chamber, simulating an altitude of 8000 m. Half of the animals received...

The symbology of the animals in "The New Advice" by Smil Flaška z Pardubic
The thesis analyses personality traits symbolically attributed to animals, based on literary sources from the 14th century, primarily "The New Advice" (Nová rada) by Smil Flaška z Pardubic. The comparison of "The New Advice" to the factual historical events reveals close connection to the formation of the lordship in the 14th century and author's ambitions to advise the king of the appropriate relationship between king and nobility. The thesis also shows that the addressed symbology has evolved in the 16th century towards more realistic understanding of animal characteristics.

Czech sign language database
Ulrych, Jan ; Skopal, Tomáš (referee) ; Kopecký, Michal (advisor)
In this diploma thesis we present an algorithm for evaluating similarity of pairs of signs in Czech sign language. The proposed algorithm is based on the sign visual appearance and compares static positions of signing person. Geometric form of sign is obtained by the transformation from its written notation to animated 3D model already implemented in the ZNAK dictionary. The proposed algorithm has been implemented into ZNAK and can be used in two ways | for retrieval of visually similar signs for currently selected sign and for searching signs in dictionary according to partial information obtained from the user.
