Interpretation of White mountain battle by Josef Polišenský
Černý, Pavel ; Čechura, Jaroslav (referee) ; Beneš, Zdeněk (advisor)
The purpose of this thesis is a study on the scholarly works of a Czech historian Josef Polišenský, those dealing with a phenomenon of the White Mountain Battle and the so-called "Czech question". Josef Polišenský in his research views the White Mountain points at issue in a broad social and cultural context and reveals important diplomatic connections which led the Czech insurgents to the fateful battle that totally changed character of the Czech statehood, social relations and established three centuries of the rule of the House of Habsburg and a long-term predominance of the Catholic Church. Publishing of the Polišenský`s studies to the White Mountain topic began with an essay on the regional history of Moravia in the work The Book about Pain and Grief: Selection from the Moravian Chronicles of the 17th Century (1948) and a year later following this editorial act the book England and the White Mountain. Polišenský steadily dwelt on the history of the international relations and in 1958 appeared in public another comprehensive book of him entitled The Dutch Policy and the White Mountain. The autor of the paper being submitted occupied himself even with the so-called "opera Comeniana" and treatises on the key personalities of the Czech history, among others Albrecht of Wallenstein, in reflection of the...

"Two views of the woman" (Female characters in selected novels of Theodor Fontan and Ignát Herrmann)
Kubíčková, Martina ; Stejskalová, Anna (advisor) ; Pechová, Drahoslava (referee)
The thesis deals with female characters of selected Berlin novels by Theodor Fontane and Prague novels by Ignát Herrmann. By the way of analysis and interpretation of individual works the thesis shows the two notions of woman, her traditional roles and position in the patriarchal society of the last third of the nineteenth century. The work seeks causes of the dominance of female characters in novels. It presents their possible typology and on the basis of comparison and confrontation demonstrates their common and different features. Family relationships and relationships of couples are described as well as various attitudes to love, various motivations for marriage, causes and consequences of dysfunctional marriages. There is also analysis of the ways of artistic depiction of topics which represented social taboo, and of the creative techniques that are specific for the two writers. Another part of the work is an outline of the contemporary social atmosphere with emphasis on the prevailing convention, as well as a comparative exposition about the lives and works of the authors and an attempt to give a true picture of the particularity of their prose. The last part of the work is a substantiation of the perception of women as victims of their environment.

Leishmania attachment in permissive vectors and the role of sand fly midgut proteins in parasite-vector interaction

of PhD thesis "Leishmania attachment in permissive vectors and the role of sand fly midgut proteins in parasite-vector interaction" Anna Dostalova, MSc. The thesis focuses on the development of protozoan parasites of the genus Leishmania in their insect vectors, sand flies. It sums up results of three projects I was involved in during my PhD studies. Main emphasis was put on permissive sand fly species that support development of various species of Leishmania. Using a novel method of binding of fluorescently labeled leishmania promastigotes to the midguts in vitro, we studied the stage- and species-specificity of the binding. We demonstrated that Leishmania midgut binding is strictly stage-dependent, is a property of forms found in the middle phase of development (long and short nectomonad forms), but is absent in early forms occurring in within the blood meal, procyclics, and in final stages, metacyclics. Comparing the binding of several leishmania species, we showed the natural parasite is not necessarily the species that can always bind in vitro most efficiently to the midgut of its vector. In some cases, we even observed significant binding of Leishmania species that do not survive in the midgut of the particular sand fly species in vivo. We conclude that the specificity of in vitro binding...

Prehistoric finds from the cave Nad Kačákem
Těžištěm práce je podrobné zhodnocení kolekce kamenné štípané industrie uložené v depozitáři Oddělení prehistorie Národního muzea v Praze, včetně její kresebné dokumentace a vypracování katalogu. Pro větší přehlednost jsou některé obrázky vloženy přímo...

Political prisoners of Jáchymov. Oral history in theory and practice
Bouška, Tomáš ; Vaněk, Miroslav (advisor) ; Mücke, Pavel (referee) ; Valeš, Lukáš (referee)
The aim of this doctoral thesis combines the possibilities of oral history in theory and practice. The first part prepares the field for delivering results of my research which is targeted at mapping and understanding recent history using oral histories of twelve survivors of communist régime imprisoned in the 1950s in the Jachymov district. At first, I demonstrate the usage of oral history and related thinking about it abroad and in the Czech context. I deliver the empirical material of this work using this method. It consists from life stories and personal testimonies of former political prisoners who have been organised in the Confederation of Political Prisoners after 1989 in the Czech Republic. Apart from methodological collection, analysis and interpretation of their life stories I point at further processing and introduction of such a research to the wide and expert public. I believe in the premise that personal testimonies of narrators represent a contribution to understanding "small history and its human aspect - here dealing with the Czechoslovak political persecution in 1950s. I also describe the evolution of my research project which I managed to enlarge and link to other academic work of my PhD. colleagues. Like this I hope to give birth to a (hopefully) unique multidisciplinary project which...

Portfolio optimization
Arzumanov, Eduard ; Šindelářová, Irena (advisor) ; Chýna, Vladislav (referee)
Nowadays, when the financial sector influences directly or indirectly nearly every part of person's life, when inflation is taken as a normal phenomenon, when we are witnessing bankrupts of different companies, banks and other financial institutions almost on a daily basis due to the incorrect managing of the financial assets or due to the incorrect estimation of overall economic development, more and more often one should consider how to manage his funds to prevent their depreciation or even how to use them to increase its value. For these reason investment into securities has become one of the most common ways of increasing the value of one's financial funds. Particularly -- one way of investment is becoming more and more popular nowadays - financial portfolio investment. That is why this thesis not only will introduce the basic principles and rules of portfolio investment, diversification and the concept of risk (in theoretical part), but will also demonstrate how is the diversification of a portfolio done in practice. The example of portfolio optimization is done using multi-criteria decision analysis applied to a model, designed in MS EXCEL with help of VBA environment.

Inflation - An Increase in the Supply of Money or Increase in the Price Level? An Impact of the Definiton on the Theory of Costs
Pícha, Petr ; Loužek, Marek (advisor) ; Pikhart, Zdeněk (referee)
This is paper is purely theoretical. It discusses misinterpretation of the term inflation in economic literature. It describes the transformation of the meaning of the term 'inflation' from increase in the money supply to an increase in the general price level based on academic discussion, it lists examples from economic literature where is the term inflation misused or vaguely described and describes the evolution of the theory of inflation -- the quantity theory of money -- throughout history for fitting in the context. In the last chapter, it demonstrates the correctness of its argument that inflation is indeed an increase in the general price level, based on the meaning of the theory of costs of inflation. Work also proposes, for a complete accuracy, using two different terms -- monetary inflation and price inflation.

Handling calls with suicidal topic by singl European emergency call number 112 in the South Bohemian and the Pilsen region
KUČEROVÁ, Renáta
The operators working the emergency line 112 receive, evaluate and handle information about the type of incidence while performing their job. They also receive situations where they handle emergency calls dealing with suicides. Talking to a person with suicidal intent is an extremely stressful and mentally challenging situation. Operators are well aware when handling a suicide call a human life hangs in the balance. They are the ones which can discourage the intention of suicide or lose the caller. Due to the seriousness of the matter it is really essential that the operators are professionally prepared to handle such calls and successfully deal with this challenging situation. The thesis deals with the handling of suicide calls on the single European emergency line 112 in the South Bohemia and Plzen regions. I established two goals for the diploma thesis. The first objective is to compare the professional preparation of the emergency line 112 operators for handling suicide calls in the South Bohemia and Plzen regions. The second is to create a proposal for increasing the training preparedness of the emergency line 112 operators for dealing with suicide calls. The thesis is divided into a theoretical and practical part. The theoretic part covers the basic concepts of the topic of suicide. In general the reader becomes familiar with the basic concepts, such as forms, motives, causes, developmental stages, methods or risk factors for suicidal tendencies, past and present social attitudes and other facts are described. Further the issue of crisis intervention is clarified from the point of view of the emergency call 112 centers and their operators. The theoretical part of the thesis relies on the knowledge based on the analysis, synthesis and research from available sources dealing with this issue. Printed books, magazines, journals, laws, statutory regulations and methodology of the Czech Republic Fire and Rescue Service, Fighting rule of Fire protection units, Catalog File of Type Activities and electronic sources were used as references. To achieve the purpose and obtain answers to the research question, the qualitative methodology of research was used in the thesis. In both regions, on the basis of a questionnaire survey, readiness of the emergency number 112 operators to handle calls from individuals contemplating suicide was evaluated and the research question answered. Response to the research question proved that professional preparedness of the operators of emergency number 112 for handling calls related to suicide requires the operators possess additional professional knowledge and skills. Based on the data from the questionnaire survey and a study of the professional literature, design methodology is developed to enhance professional preparation service emergency number 112 suicide calls. The results from the questionnaire survey indicated that not all the operators demonstrated the same knowledge level and skills and that regularly all of them do not go through the same training on the theme of suicide. Therefore in design methodology, training divided by each category is incorporated. For each category, a schedule, structure and content of the training is elaborated and a suitable trainer is recommended. In the discussion and conclusion of this thesis there are further useful recommendations listed which relate to the research topic, however they are not part of the above mentioned methodology.

Do parasitoids influence mountain butterflies altitudinal distribution? Satyrinae in Krkonoše Mts.
STUCHLOVÁ, Klára
Parasitoids represent a diverse and little studied group of insects, employing variety of adaptations to utilize and kill their hosts. Among the unresolved issues related to the host-parasitoids interactions are responses of such interactions to global climate change, especially in cases specialized insect species adapted to cold environments such as alpine habitats. Example of such hosts are the Holarctic butterflies of the genus Erebia Dalman, 1986 (Nymphalidae: Satyrinae) inhabiting mountains of Central Europe. The aim of this study was sampling caterpillars of lowland and mountain Satyrinae butterflies, rearing the caterpillars to determine the degree of infestation and determine the host specificity of parasitoids using combination of classical and molecular methods. I sampled 39 caterpillars of the Meadow Brown (Maniola jurtina), seven caterpillars of the Mountain Ringlet (Erebia epiphron) and four caterpillars of the Large Ringlet (Erebia euryale) at 14 habitats along the altitudinal gradient in Krkonoše Mountains. It was found more than a one-third parasitization by Ichneumon caloscelis among Maniola jurtina caterpillars and no parasitoids among the mountain species. It suggests the possibility of a higher rate of infestation among species living at lower altitudes than at higher altitudes. There are many factors affecting the parasitization's rate among butterflies. This issue requires further monitoring. This study demonstrates the time-consuming sampling of solitary living caterpillars on common plants. Molecular determination of parasitoids using DNA barcoding is possible without major problems, but with certain restrictions.
