City Library, Lausanne

Project for the new houses of city library and mediatheque, solves the concept of redesigning the old industry area Sevelin in the city of Lausanne, Switzerland. Here should the new social and education district takes place, what brings a new metropolitan lifestyle. Two objects of library and mediatheque end up the rows of rational city grid at this platform. They define the new open space in between as a new entrance area on the platform Sevelin. It becomes also the extension of library activities to the urban space. Here also the new metro station takes place. Concept of the library – “house in house, city in the city” creates the group of three volumes situated under one roof. The houses of adults’ library, youth library and administration define two atriums in between. Here the life of the whole building meets together. Volume of mediatheque steps up the row and shows the new direction of our culture and media.

The Borges - Eco Labyrinth

The task of the thesis is to define notion of the labyrinth according to Umberto Eco (mostly in his Notes on the Name of the rose) and J. L. Borges in his short stories. The idea of the labyrinth as the metaphore for the textual universum will be brought up within the wider context in the following chapters. Concept of "the labyrinth" and "the Library" is mainly connected with deconstructive philosophical line and the second part is about their philosophical basis clarification. This section explains the possibilities of reader's moves in the maze: his strategy (Lyotard), way of the movement (Derrida) and potential restrictions (Eco). Another important part of the thesis is the topic reflexion in media - specifically in the film. Interpretation of the selected motion pictures will be aimed at those elements, which are important for the subject of the writing (labyrinth, book, intertextuality…).

This is the crucial question that arises in relation to the legal protection of databases. The rise of new media created a brand new world that we labeled the information society and whose most valuable asset has become totally interconnected with quality and speed. Hand in hand with this rapid transformation came the power of digitalization, which has permitted the dramatic speeding up of the transfer of data and information, while offering an almost indefinite amount of storage space, consequently making unauthorized and unlawful copying of data simple and efficient. As a result the form of a database has been transformed. Information and communication technologies (ICTs) have constantly influenced industry and commerce at all stages and levels and thus the development of the database industry has become crucial for the information society. In other words, society has literally become dependent on the use of different kinds of databases. Libraries in social media from the viewpoint of readers/users

The aim of this bachelor thesis is to describe user's viewpoint on library activites in social media. It summarizes definition, history and characteristic of social networking sites and describes some of them (Facebook, Foursquare, Twitter, YouTube). In next part it deals with chosen information sources about libraries in social media. It also describes social media activites of the Research Library in Hradec Králové. The practical part describes results from the implemented questionnaire survey in this library and itd results.

Operating Data in TerraGear GIS Project

This thesis is concerned with design and implementation of system for providing, loading and viewing geographical data from TerraGear GIS project with taking advance of SimGear library. System accesses digital terrain model and land cover data saved in Binary TerraGear file format via simple application protocol above TCP/IP and views it by FreeGLUT library.

History and the present situation of the municipal library of Slaný

Cílem bakalářské práce je deskripce a posouzení historického vývoje a současnosti Městské knihovny ve Slaném. V práci je nejdříve stručně popsána historie města Slaný, podrobněji potom kulturní historie tohoto města a historie Městské knihovny ve Slaném, a to i se zřetelem na historii čítárny, která po značnou část kulturní historie Slaného působila mimo rámec Městské knihovny. Velká pozornost je v práci věnována významným kulturním osobnostem, které působily ve Slaném a ovlivnily jeho kulturní život a v části věnované historii knihovny i osobnostem, jež se zásadním způsobem podílely na založení a dalším rozvoji knihovny. Těžiště práce však spočívá v popisu a rozboru současnosti knihovny. V práci jsou popsány základní dokumenty důležité pro zřízení Knihovny V.Štecha a její provoz a dále potom charakteristika a základní parametry v její činnosti, a to především se zřetelem k dlouhodobějším i krátkodobým tendencím, které se v práci knihovny projevují. Podrobně je rozebráno především poskytování služeb, a to jak v oddělení pro dospělé, studovně i v oddělení pro děti. V této souvislosti je věnována pozornost i doprovodným propagačním, vzdělávacím a kulturním akcím knihovny. Pozornost je věnována rovněž organizaci knihovny, jejímu personálnímu zabezpečení, úloze poboček, technickému a ekonomickému zabezpečení...

The analysis of the present situation of the public libraries in the South Moravian region

Tato diplomová práce mapuje vývoj veřejného knihovnictví Jihomoravského kraje po roce 1989 a analyzuje jeho současný stav. Je zde stručně představen Jihomoravský kraj spolu s nastíněním pozitivních i negativních důsledků společenských, politických a ekonomických změn po roce 1989, které jsou nahlíženy v kontextu činnosti veřejných knihoven. Zvláštní pozornost je věnována Moravské zemské knihovně, která plní funkci krajské knihovny, pověřeným knihovnám a dalším významným knihovnám kraje. Vlastní analýza, tedy jádro práce, se zaměřuje na poskytování veřejných knihovnických a informačních služeb z hlediska plnění jednotlivých kategorií standardu VKIS. SWOT analýza nastiňuje perspektivy dalšího vývoje veřejných knihoven Jihomoravského kraje.

The Municipal Library Benešov - library charged with execution of regional function

V úvodu jsou uvedeny zákony týkající se této problematiky. Ve druhé kapitole představuji město Benešov a Městskou knihovnu Benešov z pohledu minulosti, současnosti a budoucnosti. Ve třetí kapitole vysvětluji situaci výkonu regionálních služeb ve Středočeském kraji a uvádím činnosti regionálního centra Městské knihovny Benešova.Ve čtvrté kapitole jsou popsány jednotlivé programy podpory knihoven a různé projekty. V páté kapitole se jednotlivě věnuji profesionálním a neprofesionálním knihovnám.V závěru se zamýšlím nad případnými inovacemi v poskytování služeb obsluhovaným knihovnám. V příloze je seznam neprofesionálních knihoven, seznam webových stránek knihoven či jejich zřizovatelů a fotografie Městské knihovny Benešov.
