Improving evolutionary algorithms using probability mixture models
Bajer, Lukáš ; Kovářík, Oleg (referee) ; Holeňa, Martin (advisor)
Evolutionary, and especially genetic algorithms have become one of the most successful methods for the optimization of empirical objective functions. However, in many engineering applications, evaluation of the empirical fitness function can be very time consuming or cost a considerable amount of money. In this article, we employ a surrogate model of the original fitness function which serves as a fast approximation whenever needed. First, we intended to use finite mixture models, but radial basis function networks was finally used as a particular surrogate model because of implementability. With this method, much larger populations or several generations can be simulated without waiting for expensive objective function evaluation. As a result, faster convergence in terms of the number of the original empirical fitness evaluations is achieved.

The place of fituals in todays family
Prokešová, Petra ; Šulová, Lenka (advisor) ; Horáková Hoskovcová, Simona (referee)
The aim of this work is to map out a form of rituals in today's Prague family, to describe some particular examples, and to evaluate their psychological benefits. The text is divided into three main chapters. The first chapter describes conception and definition of the ritual in humanistic sciences; associations amongst rituals, myths and religion; important aspects of ritual in man's life including its pathological form, and its contribution to a group. The second chapter is dedicated to family rituals, their specific form and function. It provides a general categorization supplied by number of concrete examples from literature and interviews with research respondents. The third chapter, empiric, describes the qualitative research procedure - a mapping study including thirty adults. The semi-structured interviews and subsequent analysis illustrate a particular form of some rituals in present-day Prague family, and their psychological gain without a claim for any generalization.

Taylor rules and interest rate setting of the Czech National Bank
Hrachovec, Miloš ; Geršl, Adam (referee) ; Horváth, Roman (advisor)
This paper studies role of the so called Taylor rules in the complex procedure of interest rate setting. The Czech National Bank is described as the monetary authority in the Czech Republic, then optimal monetary policy and form of monetary policy rule is discussed, yielding conditions on the optimal rule. These conditions are then applied to the forward-looking reaction function of the Czech National Bank and the role of this reaction function within the Czech National Bank's monetary policy is addressed. Last section presents empirical estimates of a Taylor-like rule for the Czech National Bank and shows variability of possible utilization for the modified Taylor rule.

Conditional clauses in Central Romani
Vránová, Eliška ; Beníšek, Michael (referee) ; Elšík, Viktor (advisor)
The aim of this study is an analysis of the structure and function of conditional clauses in Central Romani, i.e. in the traditional code of the sedentary Romani population in the Czech Republic and in the area of the former Hungarian empire. The analysis of conditional clauses focuses on formal aspects of their structure, especially types of subordinators or temporal-aspectual marking of the verb, as well as on their function, mainly semantic roles of conditional clauses. The data is presented from the onomasiological perspective, i.e. various forms are discussed which are used for coding a particular meaning. Dialectological differences between the studied varieties of Central Romani are pointed out, as well.

Resuscitation of the newborn and its subsequent treatment till the arrivel of the transport service
Tvrdíková, Barbora ; Stejskalová, Veronika (advisor) ; Marešová, Jana (referee) ; Vachková, Eva (referee)
A newborn with the disorder of early adaptation demands cardiopulmonary resuscitation. This is a very demanding and important medical output. The stabilization of physiological functions of the newborn after delivery and the subsequent transport into a specialized centre can critically influence the baby's prognosis. The goal of this work was to find out the readiness of infant departments for resuscitation, how they manage it and how they secure the newborn before the arrival of the transport service. The theoretical part of this work is dedicated to the process of cardiopulmonary resuscitation itself. In the first empirical part the questionnaires from the infant departments of the regional hospitals which belong to the perinatological centre of the University Hospital Hradec Kralove were analyzed. In the second empirical part the analysis of the data from the group of resuscitated newborns brought by the transport service between 2005 and 2007 was carried out. The aim of the empirical part was to compare the performance of resuscitation and the security of the newborn before the transport into a specialized centre. The comparison was based on the results of the questionnaires and the documentation of the transport service.

Semantic and pragmatic aspects of the prosodic component of the message in simultaneous interpretation
Marešová, Julie ; Sládková, Miroslava (referee) ; Čeňková, Ivana (advisor)
Julie Marešová, Semantic and Pragmatic Aspects of the Prosodic Component of the Message in Simultaneous Interpreting, Institute of Translation Studies, Faculty of Arts and Philosophy, Charles University, Prague, 2009 The thesis focuses on the prosodic component of the message in SI from the point of view of the speech listener, the interpreter and the interpretation listener. First we described the general function of prosody and its role in SI. We mentioned Gile's Effort model which is closely related to the prosody of source speech. We also considered the interpretation quality assessment from the point of view of the final client. The empirical part is focused on the way the prosodic character of the source speech influences the interpreter's work and whether the same influence can be seen in the client's assessment of the interpretation. Using computer analysis (computer programme PRAAT) and retrospective questionnaires we have found out that the interpreters are completely aware of the source speech prosody. If the prosody is unnatural or inadequate it raises the demands on concentration and understanding and makes interpretation more difficult. We did not confirm the hypothesis that source speech prosody is reflected during SI in the same way. There was a large diversity in the assessments by the...

Information and communication in the management of the music club
Stejskal, Michal ; Střížová, Vlasta (advisor) ; Švarcová, Eva (referee)
This work focuses on analysis of operation of the PopoCafePetl music club and on solution of existing problems of processes. Work is formally divided in two parts -- theoretical and practical. The first part introduces two very important managerial tools -- information and cummunication. Basic attitudes to the definition of the term information are discussed from the point of view of the disciplines examining it. A compendium of the communication forms, functions, and processes is enlisted with stress on the business communication. A structural proposal of information system fitted to the music club operation and management support was created in the empirical part of the study. Its realization and consequent implementation would simplify its run and service into a more efficient way. More economical management, more consistent promotion and the raise of its competitivnes should be their collateral product. To apply the conclusions of the analyses or information system itself would be convenient to any eterprise in this field of business.
