Stability of Incumbents in the Parliament of the Czech Republic
Mareček, Jan Lukáš ; Němec, Jan (advisor) ; Kuta, Martin (referee)
The thesis deals with the personal stability of the Czech Parliament in the period after 1993 when the Czech Republic was founded. The author assumes a better orientation in both organizational and procedural issues of reelected representatives. The aim of this thesis is to explore what factors have influenced the rate of reelection of MPs and Senators and how these are subsequently reflected in the personal structure of both Chambers. Using a quantitative analysis, the author tests the hypothesis that the rate of reelection will be higher in the Senate due to the majority voting system which is more personalized than the proportional one used in the Chamber of Deputies. The hypothesis was tested in the Committees analogically. Furthermore, the author tests if the current level of voter turnout influences the final election results and the rate of reelection, respectively. The text is divided into three chapters. The thesis is composed of a common structure heading from a theoretical background towards empirical analysis.

The influence of alcoholism on divorce rate
RŮŽIČKOVÁ, Veronika
Alcohol is nowadays a tolerated drug which has a destructive effect not only on the consumer, but even on the whole society. The Czech Republic occupies the first place in alcohol consumption rate per an adult person per year; it means 16.6 litres of pure alcohol, the most in the European Union. Annually, up to 2.5 million people die worldwide as a result of the harmful alcohol use. The bachelor thesis concerning the topic of the influence of alcoholism on the divorce rate is divided into a theoretical and practical part. The theoretical part focuses on the information and findings in the specialized literature. The attention is paid on the history of alcoholism. It deals with the definition of addiction, its signs and developmental stages at onset of alcohol addiction. The following chapter concerns with the biological, psychological and sociocultural causes of the onset of alcohol addiction.Alcohol addiction is often connected with unemployment, homelessness, frequent injuries and transport crashes under the influence of alcohol and crimes. This problem is a concern of a single chapter. Nowadays more attention is paid to alcoholism among women. A pregnant woman consuming alcohol endangers the fetal development and through her addiction she disturbs the family functioning more than a man. The thesis follows with the chapter concerning the influence of addiction on a family. There I want to show how alcohol addiction of a family member disturbs the fulfilling of the basic family functions for encouraging the correct development and socialisation of a child. A marriage burdened with alcohol addiction solves this malignant situation by the means of divorce. At the end of the theoretical part I direct my attention to the treatment of alcoholism, which is very diverse, although among the most common methods belong detoxification, ambulatory care, stationary and institutional treatment. There I mention the importance of subsequent care which helps to an abstinent to deal with pitfalls of life out of the sanatorium and live a satisfying life without alcohol. The empirical part was worked out on the basis of a quality empirical research by the means of structured dialogues. The research was carried out in the fellowship of Alcoholics Anonymous in České Budějovice and in Olomouc. The researched group consisted of ten members of Alcoholics Anonymous, five men and five women. The research comprised 31 questions.Six respondents underwent the anti-alcohol treatment because of the family. The average length of marriage, from the beginning of drinking to the divorce, was 4.3 years. Most respondents agreed that there was no impulse which led to the end of the marriage, the only reason was long-term dysfunctional relationship due to alcohol addiction. Only two respondents reported that the last impulse for divorce was adultery and dropping of child, both under the influence of alcohol. Broken family relationships differ in many cases. The most often the respondents moved away from the family, two respondents even broke the contact with the family. All women respondents were separated from the child, primarily due to the beginning of a treatment or due to the protection of the child. Two respondents meet their families after the divorce, mainly because of preventing children from this awkward situation. The change of respondent´s relationship towards children was very significant. Three respondents broke the contact with the family and children at all. Other respondents undertook a long journey to gain confidence of their children and to re establish the previous relationships. Seven respondents supported this process owing to the treatment and effort to live a sober life. Nine respondents fulfilled or fulfil the obligations towards their children, only in one case the respondent found himself in an unfavourable financial situation.

English conditional conjunctions "unless" and "if (not)" and their Czech counterparts
Kuthanová, Magdalena ; Brůhová, Gabriela (advisor) ; Vašků, Kateřina (referee)
The present thesis analyzes the English conditional clauses introduced by unless and if (not) conjunctions and their Czech counterparts. However the two conjunctions might seem the same, their meaning and use widely differs: while unless combines condition with exception (its meaning could be interpreted as 'except if') and thus introduces clauses expressing the only condition that prevents the realization of the matrix clause, if (not)-clauses express only one of several such conditions. The limitation of meaning of unless is reflected in its limited frequency in English texts and its limited possibilities as to positions and semantic roles. The thesis consists of two parts. The theoretical part presents the concept of English conditional constructions from various aspects: their syntactic and semantic functions, and most importantly the conjunction unless and its difference from the negative if. The empirical part provides linguistic classification of 120 excerpted examples (60 if (not) and 60 unless conditional clauses) with their corresponding Czech equivalents; the examples are excerpted from Intercorp, a multilingual parallel translation corpus, provided by Charles University. All the conditions are first classified according to their syntactic functions (adjuncts vs. disjuncts) and semantic...

The effect of education and health investments on economic growth of the Czech Republic from 1995 to 2009
Charvátová, Kristýna ; Hudík, Marek (advisor) ; Brožová, Dagmar (referee)
This thesis focuses on exploring the influence of private and public expenditures on health and education on economic growth. In the first part a theoretical model based on the aggregate production function is described; on its basis in the second part an empirical analysis based on the data from the Czech Republic from 1995 to 2009 is made. After estimating the model using the least squares method it has been shown that public health expenditures and private expenditures on education positively affect economic growth and on the contrary, private expenditures on health and public spending on education negatively affect economic growth.

The role of SNW/SKIP proteins in splicing
Hollá, Sandra ; Novotný, Marian (advisor) ; Kozáková, Eva (referee)
SNW proteins are essential nuclear factors whose name was derived from the conserved motif SNW. They can be found with various representatives across the eukaryotic empire. SNW proteins are involved in regulating many cellular processes - for example regulation of gene expression and cell cycle. By far the most information about the function of human homologue provides SKIP/NCoA-62, which was found in a number of signaling pathways. Yet it is not fully understood the function of SNW proteins. In this work, I would like to focus on the role of SNW proteins in pre-mRNA splicing, particularly in the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae, where most results were acquired. Key words: SNW protein, Prp45, splicing pre-mRNA, SKIP/NCoA-62, Prp22

The Indefinite Article as a Signal of the Countable Use of Uncountable Nouns
Hradecká, Markéta ; Brůhová, Gabriela (advisor) ; Dušková, Libuše (referee)
The Indefinite Article as a Signal of Countable Use of Uncountable Nouns The present thesis deals with the role of premodification in the countability of nouns. More specifically, it concentrates on the dual class nouns, i.e. nous that are used both countably and uncountably. The aim of the thesis is to determine whether the presence of premodification results in the countable use of dual class nouns. Also, the semantics of the premodifiers is taken into account. The theoretical part of the thesis summarizes information from grammar books and describes the category of countability. All of the types of nouns, i.e. countable, uncountable and dual class, are characterized. Semantic classification of adjectives is included, too, as adjectives are the most frequent noun class in terms of premodification. The empirical part of the thesis concentrates on the analysis of specific examples and aims to decide the impact of the presence of premodification on the dual class nouns. For these purposes, three nouns were chosen (difference, interest, language) and fifty instances of each noun were excerpted from the British national corpus. Each of the instances was assessed in terms of countability, in the case of difference the semantics of premodifiers was determined (this step was eliminated in the case of the...
