Arnošt Lustig and experience of the Holocaust in light of theory of narration
Stiboříková, Zuzana ; Málek, Petr (advisor) ; Holý, Jiří (referee)
Arnošt Lustig and experience of the Holocaust in light of theory of narration Abstract. Means of implementation Nazi program of exterminating the Jews, which was designed and implemented during the Second World War, had an instrument of realization in a concentration camp, where prisoners not only of died, but there was organized devaluation of their lives. We talk about it as a "model form of government", reasonably elaborate system, in which prisoners should believe, that their life has no meaning, and on the other hand they are exposed to "limit situations", that create pressure on their survival instinct, and thus affect their behavior. From world of ever-present death prisoners brought experience, about which many could not and others needed to talk. However, they meet with an inability to express this experience. There grow up a debate whether the facts are trivializing. The threat of trivializing is seen also in artistic representation. As one of the options for capture the experience of the Holocaust is mentioned concentration on the internal experience of the individual, which can by displayed mainly by art literature, whch is looking for new expressive and formal means to "communicate an incommunicable" trauma. Among the writers of literature, who comes from their own camp experiences is ranked...

Homebirth as Actor-Network
Genttnerová, Kristýna ; Grygar, Jakub (advisor) ; Kabele, Jiří (referee)
Homebirth as Actor-Network: Multiple realities The topic of this medical anthropology thesis is a description of homebirth seen through the eyes of Actor-Network Theory. The focus of this work is thus not on the professional concept of homebirth as a biological process or soon-to-be-mothers experience and take on homebirth. Focus is on homebirth in itself, how it is enacted via interactions of actors in network. After the presentation of two points of view on medicine (disease and illness), an introduction into the basic principles and innovations of ANT (including anthropology of symmetry), into the works of people, who build their ideas on it (Mol - multiplicity, De Laet - fluidity, Law) and the presentation of the current birthing situation in the Czech Republic, the thesis shifts its focus to the description of the whole actor-network, which enacts homebirth via interaction between the actors in practice. These practices are abstracted from the interviews with mothers, a dula and a paediatrician. The description includes people and objects, because according to ANT, they have the same amount of social agency. Homebirth is then enacted by the objects needed for homebirth - tools to make birth easier and to support its process, by people who partake, venues it takes place in and the birthing positions it...

Theory of written language
Chromý, Jan ; Mareš, Petr (advisor) ; Kořenský, Jan (referee) ; Křístek, Michal (referee)
v anglickém jazyce The purpose of this thesis is to identify the principles and main aspects of a possible future theory of written language and to critically analyze the existing approaches to this issue. The first chapter outlines the main principles serving as a background for the other parts of the thesis. The second chapter deals with non-empirical approaches to the written language: it introduces selected conceptions of the written language and attempts to critically reflect their theoretical impact. In the third chapter, selected empirical approaches to the written language are considered; it shows how particular empirical researches and empirically based findings could help in the formation of a new theory. The fourth chapter offers a critical review of the conception of the style-forming agents in the Czech and Slovak linguistics. In its second part, possibilities of a more valid and reliable approach to this issue are shown using the example of an experiment on style-forming agents preparedness and unpreparedness. The fifth chapter considers the phenomenon of synaesthesia in the relationship to the written language: the aim is to connect a research area, which would be considered as non-linguistic in the eyes of autonomous linguistics, with paramount linguistic problems.

Both parents´ retrospective view of a labour in the presence of fathers
MATYÁŠOVÁ, Monika
Assistance in childbirth differed in various cultural communities and historical periods. However, childbirth was always a family matter in which father participated either directly or indirectly. The last ten years revealed that the role of a man was absolutely irreplaceable in the relationship between mother, a new-born child and father, and that the role reflected itself in the relationship not only with mother {--} the mate but also with the child. The objective of the bachelor thesis was to ascertain to what extent the father's attendance to the childbirth was a spontaneous wish of both the parents, and to what extent it was rather a wish of the woman in childbed. On the basis of my own experience, the following hypothesis was determined: ``Father{\crq}s attendance to the childbirth is predominantly a spontaneous wish of both the parents.{\crqq} In order to verify the hypothesis, I used the form of a quantitative research. The data were collected using the questionnaire containing 16 questions for mothers and 16 questions for fathers. The questions for both the groups of informants were identical. The questionnaire was anonymous. The research group consisted of the mothers giving birth to their child in the hospital in České Budějovice (a joint stock company) and their mates attending to the childbirth. The research group comprised 56 pairs of informants. The results of the thesis reveal that the mate{\crq}s attendance to the childbirth is largely a spontaneous wish of the parents-to-be. It is obvious that as early as during the pregnancy the fathers-to-be search for the information on gravidity and childbirth. They enjoy the pregnancy together with their mates and do not assume an uninterested attitude to the gravidity of their mates. Active preparation of the pairs for the childbirth is also apparent. Assessment of negatives and positives of father{\crq}s attendance to the childbirth is subjective and very individual. If the mate{\crq}s attendance to the childbirth is a common wish of both the parents-to-be, the delivery of their child is an invaluable experience in their life.

Christianity and Environmentalism, The Historical Roots of Ecological Crisis
Kameník, Pavel ; Halama, Jindřich (advisor) ; Keřkovský, Pavel (referee)
Man should not look for a single center or program in ecosystems, much less for subjective experiences. Instead, one should look for a matrix, for interconnections between centers of science for creative stimulus and open their potential. Humans have more understanding than ever of the natural world they inhabit, of the speciating processes, more predictive power to foresee the intended and unintended results of their actions, and more power to reverse the undesirable consequences. Several billion years worth of creative toil, several million species of teeming life, have been handed over to the care of this late-coming species in which mind has flowered and morals have Fortunately, it is often evident that human welfare depends on ecosystemic support, and in this sense all our legislation about clean air, clean water, soil conservation and so forth is concerned about ecosystem level processes. One of the levels is environmental ethics of naturalism and Christian responsibility. It seems to be one of historical roots of our ecological crisis. That is why we have to learn to listen to the Earth and find our new response or revert to our initial function. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)

It has just been here, but: Moving towards operational definition of consciousness in unconscious perception research
Špok, Dalibor
If we want to take unconscious perception research further beyond general methodological and philosophical discussions, towards tangible experiments, we are faced with particularly difficult problem – to bring into line third-personal approaches with subjective phenomenon, which appears to the third person only vicariously. Lots of suggestions how to define consciousness operationally in unconscious perception research in contemporary cognitive psychology have been made, as well as many critiques of such attempts. This article shows the intractability of the term consciousness for acceptable consensual operationalization. It points at the consequences emerging from objective/subjective perceptual threshold discrimination, qualitative differences paradigm, process dissociation paradigm, and direct/indirect effects paradigm.

Comparative Analysis of Liberal and Mandatory Health Insurance Systems (specifically the USA and Czech Republic)
Topinková, Kateřina ; Krebs, Vojtěch (advisor) ; Brabec, Petr (referee)
The thesis aims to critically compare liberal and mandatory health systems, and based on detected advantages and disadvantages of each, propose certain solutions and recommendations to optimize the health care system. During this task it also puts into context historical, legal and ethical backgrounds which strongly influence the system set up. Optimal adjustment of the health care system is an issue that worries most of the world's countries and this thesis, with it's unbiased evaluation, proposes suggestions on potential better functionality and effectiveness of health care. The theoretical part of the thesis deals with the major economical terms connected to health care and the typology of healthcare systems. In the following practical part, the US and the Czech healthcare systems are analyzed as the representatives of the liberal and the traditional mandatory health care systems by the international comparison method and the result shows positive experiences from the systems, applicable especially for the Czech Republic.
