Pokud chceme ve výzkumu vědomí postoupit od obecných metodologických a filozofických diskuzí ke konkrétním výzkumům, čeká nás mimořádně obtížný úkol - sladit přístupy "třetí osoby", se subjektivním fenoménem, jež se třetí osobě jeví pouze zprostředkovaně. Ve snaze podat operační definici vědomí pro účely výzkumu nevědomé percepce v současné kognitivní psychologii padlo mnoho návrhů a rovněž kritik takových pokusů. Tento příspěvek se snaží na několika experimentálních paradigmatech v této oblasti demonstrovat nepoddajnost konceptu vědomí pro přijatelnou konsenzuální operacionalizaci. Konkrétně upozorní na konsekvence vyplývající z pojetí objektivních prahů percepce, disociační paradigma, paradigma přímého/nepřímého měření a procesové disociace. Povšimne si také hlavních bodů kritiky těchto přístupů. If we want to take unconscious perception research further beyond general methodological and philosophical discussions, towards tangible experiments, we are faced with particularly difficult problem – to bring into line third-personal approaches with subjective phenomenon, which appears to the third person only vicariously. Lots of suggestions how to define consciousness operationally in unconscious perception research in contemporary cognitive psychology have been made, as well as many critiques of such attempts. This article shows the intractability of the term consciousness for acceptable consensual operationalization. It points at the consequences emerging from objective/subjective perceptual threshold discrimination, qualitative differences paradigm, process dissociation paradigm, and direct/indirect effects paradigm.
