This thesis deals with the question whether Jean-Philippe Toussaint's work resembles the work of the authors of the New novel, particularly Alain Robbe-Grillet. The thesis initiates with the topics covered by the New Novel: the main ideas and their realization and characteristics of the new writing style. This is followed by the analysis of a contemporary Belgian author, Jean-Philippe Toussaint. There is a short introduction of his life and character, his work and reasons why he is so popular and how he became a success. The main point of this part is the analysis of his writing style and its development from his early novels up to his present work. This thesis tries to look into the similarities and differences of J.-P. Toussaint's work and the work of the authors of the New novel. It mainly focuses on the use of objects, what role they play in Toussaint's novels, how they are described and the importance of their description for understanding the plot. The analysis begins with an introduction to the 1950s' new wave authors, later called the authors of the New novel, and their complaints aimed at the classical 19th century novel. We base this part mainly on Alain Robbe-Grillet's ideas. This author totally rejects classical plot, characters, accurate description of reality and linear time-flow. Instead, he...

From Kvilda to Kašperské Hory (Literary Toponyms in Works of Karel Klostermann)
Procházková, Žaneta
Karel Klostermann used toponyms very often in his narratives (e. g. in the novel V ráji šumavském there are 114 different ones) and he cumulated them in long enumerations. Toponyms were an inseparable part of his detailed descriptions of a scene. These place names and minor place names were always real. It seems that the author wanted to add credibility to his story also through the use of real existing toponyms, which was a popular practice in literature at that time.

Competence Paramedic in the Czech Republic
ČERNÝ, Jaroslav
Paramedics´ competencies in the Czech Republic is the name of the subject of this bachelor thesis. The thesis is targeted on mapping the knowledge of the competencies of paramedics and their satisfaction with the extent of activities performed under their competence. The theoretical part of this thesis systematically clarifies the relevant issue. I describe the Integrated Rescue System and the organization thereof on the grounds of the primary representation on which the health rescue service is based. As concerns such rescue service, the thesis is focused on the legislative development, specification and financing thereof. I also specify details of the individual types of rescue teams and describe paramedics with an emphasis on legal norms. The thesis also deals with obtaining and utilizing expertise and with specialist education. Paramedics´ competencies are broken down by several groups described in great detail. In the practical part, I used the method of quantitative research. The data collection method is an anonymous questionnaire. The research team consisted of paramedics working for the Health Rescue Service of the South Bohemian Region. The questionnaires were distributed to seven various rescue stations. The answered queries confirmed both hypotheses. The results show that paramedics know their professional competencies and, when performing their jobs, are satisfied with the extent of the activities performed under their competence. The thesis shows that paramedics´ competencies are not sufficiently well described in legal norms. As a result of such insufficiency, the situation of paramedics is uselessly complicated. In the thesis, I deal with the negative reverse issues and propose a document determined for paramedics to achieve a better legal position.

Influence of Czech Immigrants on Willa Cather's Literary Work
Vomáčková, Tatiana ; Ženíšek, Jakub (advisor) ; Grmela, Josef (referee)
My interest in Willa Cather developed from reading her novels "My Antonia", "O Pioneers!" and several short stories dealing with European immigrants, especially those from Bohemia. I found it interesting that an American writer devoted so much attention to portray characters of another nationality with such a consistent approach. In this work I present available information on the background of her motivation and trace her sources for understanding the expatriate Bohemian community in the United States, in order to describe their representatives in fiction. I would like to draw a connecting line between the historical context and the literary portrayal of immigrants from Bohemia. Furthermore, I would like to introduce the real life model for Antonia Shimerda in "My Antonia" and depict some of the general characteristics ascribed to Bohemians at the break of the twentieth century. This thesis will deal with the factual, as well as the implicit, characteristics of Bohemian characters shown in her writings. I intend to compare Cather's point of view with the perspective of others who added their voice to the literary discussion of this subject matter.

Actor and HIs Fear
Roleček, Vít ; OTČENÁŠEK, Štěpán (advisor) ; SALZMANNOVÁ, Eva (referee)
In my master thesis, I am trying to name the origins and signals of an actor`s fear. I have came from my own existing stage experiences previously and whilst studying classical acting at the Dramatic Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague, and also from my first experiences with differing professional groups from theatres from around the Czech Republic. My thesis is supported by professional literature, with which one I have read during my studies at the Academy, and it is inspired by talks and by consultation with people who are active in an artistic field. In my work I reflect my mental prosesses, states and blocks, not only during stage creations, but also in my personal life. I think that a fear can rule an actor and cause stage fright. This is why I have decided to choose this subject for my thesis.
