Italian "Parlamentary Novel" at the Turn of Twentieth Century

This bachelor thesis presents the parliamentary novel, which had been formed during the second half of 19th century and demonstrates the specifics of this "genre". For needs of the analysis I chosed five main novels: I Vecchi e I Giovani, I Viceré, L'imperio, Daniele Cortis a Le Vergini delle rocce. The text itself is composed by three main chapters. The first part contains a historical introduction of the time of the italian unification, which is necessary for understanding the political background of the parliamentary novel. Particular attention is paid to the affairs that are explicitly reflected in the novels. The historical background ends with the italian entry to the World War I. In the second part I present the authors - Luigi Pirandello, Federico De Roberto, Antonio Fogazzaro and Gabriele D'Annunzio - who reflects in their writings the events of the time, in which they lived. The last part contains the analysis of presented texts from the point of view of narratology and thematics. At the conclusion attention is paid to the summary of topics typical for parliamentary novel.

Greek and Roman reformers

The goal of this thesis on roman and greek reformers was to create a methodical summary of the most important constitutional reforms in ancient Rome and Greece. It is mostly focussed on the history of ancient Rome or Roman reformers, respectively. I call these reforms constitutional for their undoubted life-changing impact on the society as a whole - some of the reforms changed the ancient societies for the upcoming decades and even centuries, some changed them, as I believe, forever. For example a struggle between Lucius Cornelius Sulla and Gaius Marius had a far- reaching impact on Rome as too much of "unbreakable" rules were broken - which, of course, led to another and another heavy and unprecedented interventions which ultimately led to the fall of the republic and the beginning of the new, Imperial, era. Main sources of this thesis are the texts of ancient authors, such as Plutarch Suetonius and Appian, as it was one of my goals to use primary literature as much as possible.

Dazzled by the Hellenic Sun: Reception of the Classical Antiquality in the Czech Literature Between 1880 and 1910

The theme of the dissertation is the reception of the Classical Antiquity in the Czech Literature between 1880 and 1910. The aim was to analyse the ways in which Czech culture related to the Classical Antiquity in the period of increased concern with Classical topics, motifs and forms. The first, largest part, methodologically inspired by the demythicizing perspective of Vladimír Macura and Jiří Rak, concerns with stereotypical views of the Classical Antiquity particularly prominent in the contemporary discourse: the antithetical image of noble Greece and corrupted Rome, the topos of bright Hellenic Sun and clear Sky, the ideology behind the common opinion that Ancient sculptures were all white (and the reactions to the discovery that they were, in fact, polychrome), the topos of a Greek athletic body and its employment in the policy of the Czech sports movement 'Sokol' (Falcon), and last but not least the topos of a man unspoilt by civilization and living in accordance with the Nature. Re-creation of a roman bath complex at Pollena Trocchia

Roman baths were discovered in Pollena Trocchia on the northern side of Vesuvius. They can be labelled as private for their size and location and they probably belonged to a rich villa. This and the fact that they were built shortly after the A.D. 79 eruption makes them a rather rare specimen for study of development of Roman baths in the area. The baths are exceptionally well preserved and rare details of construction and functionality can be found, from the design phase, which can be seen in form of 1:1 plan carved on bricks forming the hypocaust floor, to the water and heating technologies. These details are followed in this thesis and the original form and modus operandi of the baths is reconstructed. Principles of activities of Roman officials

A principles of activities of the Roman officials The main objective of this thesis is to explain the principles which had formed since from the beginning of the city of Rome. Later, in the republic era, these principles had a great influence on the Roman officials and their activities. These principles also helped to form a large part of the Roman constitutional legal system This thesis describes the period of Roman kingdom and republic and principally deals with the way how the principles affected not only on the officials, but also on the Roman state and law. The first chapter focuses on the mysterious ancient culture called the Etruscans and establishment of the city of Rome. The Etruscans were very advanced culture. They stood on the beginning of the roman civilization and they inflicted its future progress in many areas of living, especially in the state administration. The second chapter devotes to the development of the Roman state administration in the early republic. In this chapter we can find a description and characterization of the Roman offices and the assistants of the officials. Wind musical instruments of ancient Greece and Rome

This thesis deals with ancient wind musical instruments. It focuses especially on three kinds of them - aulos, syrinx and military musical instruments, where salpinx, lituus and bucina belongs to. Each chapter of this thesis is dedicated to one of these wind instruments and discusses its origin and evolution. It also describes its using in ancient society - during sacral ceremonies, cultural events and in military or private life - this description is based on Greek, Roman end Etruscan iconography and also cites some of the references from ancient authors. Some of these instruments have developed during the ancient times into different shapes - these versions are described in this thesis on the background of iconography and bibliography. In the end of every single chapter there is a selection of the most important preserved samples of the musical instruments or their fragments. These samples, although they often are in poor condition, are clear evidence about the nature of ancient music. The second Roman ride of the Charles the Fourth

The thesis "The Second Roman Ride of the Charles the Fourth" tries to cover the whole campaign of the Emperor Charles IV. between years 1368 and 1369. Also, thesis follows the basic questions related to the issues of the royal court during the journey. The first of those questions is about accompaniment of the Emperor Charles IV. on his journey across the Italian territory and how the court was transformed during the ride to Rome and back. The second question points out the effort to build the court of the Elizabeth of Pomerania, who was crucial person of the second Roman ride where she did not travel alongside the emperor. The last question attempts to describe the undergirding of the court during the campaign in italian cities - how the emperor and his court was accepted and welcomed, accommodated, supllied and gifted.

Risorgimento and "Question of Rome". Contribution to the History of the Unification of Italy in the 19th Century

In her bachelor's thesis, the author is going to deal with the history of Roman state in the period of 1849-1878. In particular she will endeavour to analyse the development of papal Rome, afterwards the period of the Roman Republic and the return of the Pope to Rome. The main core of the thesis will lie in the analysis of the accession of Rome to the Kingdom of Sardinia, i.e. de facto to United Italy. Petra Dvořáčková will primarily draw on the studies of published sources and scholarly literature of Italian provenance as well as the scholarly literature available in English and Czech languages.
