Effect of nitric oxide on cerebral blood flow during neuronal activity
Strnadová, Petra ; Otáhal, Jakub (advisor) ; Brožíčková, Carole (referee)
Name of the thesis Effect of nitric oxide on cerebral blood flow during neuronal activity Aim of the thesis The aim of this thesis is to determine whether the application of 7-nitroindazole, relatively specific inhibitor of neuronal nitric oxide synthase, affects the baseline blood pressure. Furthermore, to determine whether the application of the substance affects the baseline cerebral blood flow and whether it influences blood flow in brain during transcallosal stimulation with increasing frequency. Research method The research took place at the premises of the Institute of Physiology, Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic. Experiments were carried out on laboratory albino Wistar rats. The group contained both experimental and control sample. General anesthesia was performed to rats, stimulating and sensing electrodes were implanted in epidural area of sensorimotor cortex and Laser Doppler flow probe was implanted into the contralateral hemisphere. A plastic catheter was applied in the carotid artery for measuring systemic blood pressure. In the first part of the experiment, we tested the effects of 7-nitroindazole on the systemic blood pressure. In the second part of the experiment, we investigated the effects of 7-nitroindazole on baseline cerebral blood flow. The third part of the...

An Attempt to Conceive the Role of the Sacred in Music. The Character and Application of the Sacred in the Music of Richard Wagner
Klodnerová, Lenka ; Balabán, Milan (advisor) ; Štampach, Ivan (referee) ; Nekvasil, Miloslav (referee)
In my thesis An Attempt to Conceive the Role of the Sacred in Music. The Character and Application of the Sacred in the Music of Richard Wagner - I aim to search for connecting points as well as differences between the field of religion (and theology) and the field of music (and the art as such). I find the religious experience of human being to be relative to the aesthetic experience in its fullness. However, there is a relation of analogy, not identity, between those. If we attempt to define the role of the sacred in music, we have to include the historical context, theological, philosophical and aesthetical issues and after having researched them, we are obliged to get rid of them, to become free to approach the depth of the problem. For more detailed inquiry I chose the music of Richard Wagner. The reason for my choice was, that his music is full of contradicting influences and non musical stuff included, so that it can serve as a perfect example of the problematics. We have to pursue the whole way of digging into the problem and the conclusions we make are a result of a complex inquiry of the field in our scope. The misleading moments in Wagner ́s life and work have to be named and explained, so that we can arrive at the real treasure of the music, hidden under the cover of different meanings and...

Principles of protection of the environment and their application in international, European Community and Czech law
Villalobos, Manuel ; Franková, Martina (advisor) ; Damohorský, Milan (referee)
ENGLISH SUMMARY This thesis, called "Environmental Principles and Their Application in International, European Community and Czech Law", discusses five selected environmental principles. This work only contains a narrow selection of fundamental environmental principles, considering the relatively large number of conservation principles that have been formulated to date. It deals with principles that we can find, either explicitly or implicitly, at all the named levels of law (i.e. International, European Community and Czech) on a regular basis and that are well established in legal theory at the same time. In the opening part of the thesis (i.e. second chapter) the matter has been explored from the legally-theoretical point of view. The introduction is dedicated to a general interpretation of the concept of "principle" as well as its definition purely within the legal field. Legal principles are defined here as leading ideas of law presenting essential values which are the general objectives of legal regulations. Fundamental attributes common to all legal principles can also be found in this part, as well as clarification of the principles' significance for law. In order to understand them better, the author also concentrates on the typology of principles. The purpose of the first part is to acquaint the...

Indian chronicles of Fernão Lopes de Castanheda and Gaspar Correia
Znamenáček, Richard ; Binková, Simona (advisor) ; Dufková, Vlasta (referee) ; Binková, Simona (referee)
This PhDr. work is a comparative historical work comparing two of five most important chronicles of the Portuguese India of the 16th century, History of the Discovery and Conquest of India by the Portuguese (História do Descobrimento e Conquista da Índia pelos Portugueses) by Ferno Lopes de Castanheda and Legends of India (Lendas da Índia) by Gaspar Cor- reia. The work is divided into three sections. The first section is an introduction to the topic selected. It outlines the causes of the huge Portuguese ultramarine expansion and what preceded it, as well as its progress. In this section there is a chronological overview of Portuguese expansion to Asia, which was initiated and implemented to a decisive extent by Governor Afonso de Albuquerque (1509-1515). Thanks to him, the so-called Estado da Índia founded by his precursor, Francisco de Almeida, got firm foundations and expanded territorially enormously. A brief characterization of Estado da Índia is in the second part of this section. The very conclusion of the first section is dedicated to the rich literature of ultramarine discoveries. The first section is followed by two crucial sections, which are dedicated to the above- named chroniclers and their works, i.e. to Ferno Lopes de Castanheda and his History (the second section) and to Gaspar Correia and...

Formation of the image of Soviet Russia in Czechoslovakia between World Wars
Lomíček, Jan ; Jančík, Drahomír (referee) ; Štaif, Jiří (advisor)
The image of Soviet Russia in Czechoslovakia between W orld Wars was the result of persona! experiences of the visitors mentioned in their literary works. The amount of places these visitors were able to visit was relatively small and that is why the reality shown in their works is distorted. In some cases such a distorted image was created by the institutions monitoring foreigners in the Soviet territory. It was VOKS (V sesojuznoe obščestvo dlja kuľtumoj svjazi s zagranicej) and the Soviet state travel agency Intourist, to name the most significant of them. Also the writers who tried to present an objective description of the situation in the Soviet Union were often dependent on theoretical information without the possibility to verify their theories in practice. A significant number of left-wing intelectuals considered the dictatorship of the proletariat to be a politi cal vanguard. They sticked to these behefs because they did not have any opportunity to discover the rea! consequences of Bolshevik govemment on the people in the Soviet Union.

GULAG as a Life - Experience : The Soviet Repressive System of 30. - 50.'s in 20th century in narrations and memoir literature
Foldynová, Markéta ; Himl, Pavel (advisor) ; Babka, Lukáš (referee)
The Abstract The main focus of the diploma thesis named "GULAG as a life experience" is on the Soviet repressive system in the era of 30's to 50's of the 20th century. There are two approaches in this thesis: the first one is concerning the narrating and memory, the other point of view is the topics reflecting in the narrations. Both, oral and written stories are used, the written ones are prevailing. In the third chapter, I deal with the topic of human memory and its relation to history and telling about past. I am posing the question concerning the relation between memory and society, memory and history, how do the people conceive their narrations, what sort of language tools and schemes of telling do they use and what the differences between oral and written narrations are. This empirically focused part of the thesis is forgone by a theoretical part dealing with the mentioned topics. All is illustrated by using examples from the life stories of survivors. The other main topic is discussed in the eighth chapter, dealing with topics often appearing in the memories of the survived people. As well as in the other part I am using here the examples of the life stories for better illustration of the explained topic. The subtopics are divided into five groups: "time and space", "death and suicide", "strategies...

Art spaces outside institutional frames: differential spaces of art
Piškur, Bojana ; Wittlich, Petr (advisor) ; Pachmanová, Martina (referee) ; Lahoda, Vojtěch (referee)
The aim of this dissertation is to direct attention towards differential way of approaching spaces of art, on the basis of Lefebvrian space production. But the space production in question is just one aspect which cannot be isolated from the wider social environment. While differential spaces of art seem to be - in theory at least- an ideal place for discussion within recent debates on representation, culture, identity and so on, they have nevertheless been relatively isolated from these perspectives. The main reason is that it is impossible to analyze the actual production of differential spaces. lt is possible, however, to elucidate and expose the production and the product - space (they are inevitably connected) - through first-hand experiences (participation), and through secondary sources such as documentary materials, newspaper articles, interviews etc. Production of differential spaces of art can be recognized in the following spatialities: appropriated spaces, embodied spaces, spaces of the so called "third sector", and inner spaces of mind, to name the examples described in the dissertation. lt also seeks answers to questions: what is specific to the production of differential spaces of art? What is the relationship between different spatialities? Between differential spaces of art and the...

Dietary supplements and iodine supplementation for children 11-12 years in the Czech Republic
HALÁSZOVÁ, Monika
Bachelor Thesis called "Dietary supplements and iodine supplementation for children 11-12 years in the Czech Republic" deal with the intake of dietary supplements containing iodine and intake of other significant dietary sources of iodine in relationship to saturation with iodine in the monitored group of 300 children aged 11-12 years . The thesis is divided into theoretical and practical part. Theoretical part deal with established issues in light of current situation and uses the knowledge of specialized literature in these areas: iodine and his dietary sources, influence of deficient or excessive intake of iodine on thyroid gland and its function, and also the solution to iodine deficit in Czech Republic. The thesis also deals with dietary supplements and nutrition of school-aged children. Practical part is focused on quantitative research. This research was done on selected group of children who had low level of ioduria (iodine in urine) according to State health institution. Statistical file included 300 children of both gender in age from 11 to 12 who live in Czech Republic. The reason why children of this age were chosen is because of importance of optimal intake of iodine in period of physical and sexual evolution. The children were divided into two groups. One group had ioduria up to 300ug/l and the second group had ioduria over 300u/l. Data were collected through questionnaire. Because of age of respondents, the questionnaire was filled in presence of at least parent. The questionnaire should have also served to parents as information about iodine importance for their children. The individual evaluation of ioduria and questionnaire was given to parents upon their request. Collected data were evaluated in Microsoft Excel. In practical part, two main goals and two research questions are set. Their task is to determine the rate of usage of dietary supplements with iodine and to find out what significant sources of iodine the children with ioduria over 300u/l take in. The milk and milk products, salt with iodine, salted delicacies, sea products and dietary supplements with iodine were observed as probable main sources of iodine intake. The first goal was to find out the amount of iodine intake from dietary supplements for previously mentioned group of children. The second goal was to find out if the dietary supplements with iodine (or any other combination of food rich on iodine) are used by observed individuals with ioduria over 300u/l. The results of research show if the respondent's level of ioduria is affected by in taking the dietary supplements or food with significantly higher content of iodine. My own research proved relatively frequent (but irregular) intake of dietary supplements with iodine by whole examined population. On the other hand, usage of dietary supplements with iodine is probably not correlated with usage of table salt without iodine or with thyroid gland illness by individual respondent or in his family. The milk and milk products and table salt with iodine proved to be the main source of iodine. According to research, children with excessive ioduria consume sources of iodine as frequent as other children. Deeper insight into results shows that reason for excessive saturation with iodine is combination of intake of dietary supplements as well as other significant food sources of iodine, especially milk and its products. By several respondents, the higher level of ioduria can be caused by higher consummation of sea products or by usage of dietary supplements with iodine in last two days. The need for better awareness about suitable rate of iodine dietary supplements intake as well as medical importance for lowering the amount of (iodine) table salt in food was discovered by research. The optimal supply of iodine by higher percent of observed population could be also achieved by optimizing the content of iodine in milk.
