Typical Usage Patterns of English Verbs
Smejkalová, Lenka ; Holub, Martin (advisor) ; Lopatková, Markéta (referee)
Corpus Pattern Analysis (CPA) is a corpus-based method that explores typical usage patterns of verbs in a text corpus, and describes meaning of verbs by means of contextual preferences defined both syntactically and semantically [1]. CPA in conjuction with the British National Corpus (BNC) is currently used to create The Pattern Dictionary of English Verbs (PDEV) [1, 2]. The thesis describes the current status of the PDEV, presents a thorough analysis of available data on typical usage patterns and explores possible applications of the PDEV for automatic lexical analysis. In this thesis procedures usable in further PDEV development have been designed and implemented. The first of them automatically extracts arguments of verbs from an output of English syntactic analysis. The second one uses the extracted arguments to create lists of lexical units that realize semantic types. The last procedure uses these lists to automatically recognize typical usage patterns of verbs. The thesis also evaluates inter-annotator agreement, automatic extraction of verb arguments in/from English sentence, and effectiveness of the proposed procedures in the extraction of lexical units that realize semantic types and in automatic recognition of typical usage patterns.

Persuasive techniques in lifestyle magazines and their effect on lifestyle-forming : content analysis of Spy magazine
Jeřábek, David ; Klabíková Rábová, Tereza (referee) ; Šoltys, Otakar (advisor)
Bachelor thesis "Persuasive techniques in lifestyle magazines and their effect on lifestyle-forming : content analysis of Spy magazines" generally deals with media effects on audiences. It introduces the historic development of perspectives on mass media and mass communication and the effects of media and their research. In particular it focuses on the effects of the so-called lifestyle media on the lifestyle and identity of mainly younger consumers of media products. It specifically evaluates the way in which such media present potentially harmful content. It describes typical persuasive techniques used by media in advertising, political campaigning and other types of content. It introduces main outlooks on the topics of lifestyle and identity from media and sociological perspectives. It describes the most significant methods of media content research, namely, qualitative and quantitative content analysis from the historic and methodological point of view. Using a combination of these two techniques it attempts to verify the research hypothesis predicting that media utilize persuasive techniques to present attitudes and opinions which are not immediately obvious and subsequently manipulate audiences into assuming particular patterns of behavior and thinking.

Hyperbole, Imagination and Tradition in Luigi Pulci's Morgante
Žáčková, Magdalena ; Pelán, Jiří (advisor) ; Flemrová, Alice (referee)
- Hyperbole, Imagination and Tradition in Luigi Pulci's Morgante The epic Morgante, compiled at the end of the 15th century by the poet Luigi Pulci, stands at the turn of two historical eras. It is a meeting point of the Middle Ages and Renaissance with their literary influences and ideas. Also, it reflects the change in the development stages of the genre: from the period when the heroic narrative was declaimed by minstrels (joglars) on squares, this subject matter was gradually introduced into royal courts, where it was influenced by a more elevated culture. The main elements of this epic include the adoption of several literary traditions, the comic in many of its forms, and religion, all of which is underlined with the special imagination of the author together with allusions to his own life situation. Luigi Pulci adopted not only the tradition of the heroic matter full of typical medieval patterns (topoi) very popular in Italy at that time, but also the comic-realistic literary tradition of Tuscany, which provides his narrative with a different tone in many ways, and thus incorporates Morgante in a literary field different from the one which its predecessors were part of. Orlando is the most significant of these; it is a text that was used by Pulci as a direct inspiration for his work and most...

Stalking
Slámová, Michaela ; Buriánek, Jiří (advisor) ; Podaná, Zuzana (referee)
This thesis focuses on the issue of systematic and excessive pursuit, for which the English has come to use the term stalking. This work is divided to teoretical and empirical part. The first part introduces the phenomenon of this offence and the typical patterns of behaviour, with which a known or an unknown offender harms the victim. It describes the main types of pursuit, attention is being paid to assessing the dangerousness of pursuit. In this connection, the work offers an insight into the current knowledge about offenders of dangerous pursuit and clarifies the classification of the basic offender groups. It is described who may be potential victim of stalking and it is named important advices and recommendations in case of victimisation. It presents the view that the only efficient solution to cases of pursuit is not only a matter of the police, but requires an interdisciplinary approach. It is mentioned a question of possible interventions and their effectiveness. At the end of the first part it is looked upon stalking by sociological view. In the second empirical part are presented three case studies of the real ex-partner stalking, they are compared and it is made a content analysis of short messages of one of the cases, which stalker sent to the victim.

Poikilothermic traits in Mashona mole-rat (Fukomys darlingi). Reality or myth?
ZEMANOVÁ, Milada
The African mole-rats is a mammalian family well known for a variety of ecophysiological adaptations for strictly belowground life. The Mashona mole-rat (Fukomys darlingi) is supposed to have strong poikilothermic traits, because it is not able to maintain a stable body temperature at ambient temperatures below 20°C. In our study, we measured resting metabolic rate and body temperature of Mashona mole-rats across a gradient of ambient temperatures to test its poikilothermic traits. Tested mole-rats show typical mammalian pattern in resting metabolic rates. And their body temperature was stable at ambient temperatures from 10 to 25°C. We thus cannot confirm poikilothermic traits in this species.

Glycophenotype of the Epidermis under Physiological and Pathological Conditions
Lacina, Lukáš ; Smetana, Karel (advisor) ; Zámečník, Josef (referee) ; Arenberger, Petr (referee)
Galectins-1,-3 and -7 are expressed in human epidermis. Galectin-1 and his binding sites are expressed there in the nuclei of cells which are closely related to or are identical with the stem cell population. Expression pattern of galectin-3 is differentiation-dependent in tissue as well as in vitro. Binding sites for this galectin are present in the similar manner. Expression of galectin-7 is not observed in differentiation-dependent manner. Binding sites for this member of galectins family were never observed in the epidermis. Galectin-2 is expressed in the nuclei of fibroblast under stress conditions. Expression of observed galectins and their binding sites in basal cell carcinoma and in psoriatic plaque refers to the differentiation level. We emphasize the lack of galectin-7 and binding sites for galectin-3 in basal cell carcinoma epithelium. Highly typical is abundant presence of galectin-1 in the stroma of basal cell carcinoma and in dermis of psoriatic plaque. We have also observed the dependence of galectin-7 expression on differentiation of squamous cell carcinoma. This relationship has no correlation to the survival of patients. The biological activity of stromal fibroblast toward to normal keratinocytes resulting in induction of "cancer-like" phenotype is the highlight of this study.

Everyday spatial mobility of population in the town Český Krumlov: patterns of individual mobility and their study by means of modern geo-information technologies
ROZKOŠNÝ, Filip
This Bachelor´s thesis is focused on analysis of everyday spatial mobility in the town Český Krumlov. The data needed for research were obtained by questionnaire and partly from GPS loggers. The purpose of research of this Bachelor´s thesis was to find out in what proportion are used the means of transport from the angle of the number of trips, distance covered and the time spent in them. Quite big difference of modal split was registered between average working days and Saturday. During Saturday car was used more times than walking whereas during the working days walking was preferred more than car. From the results it was obvious that the longest distance was travelled in car and the longest time was spent while walking. Another aim of this research was to find out the various purposes of trips according to their number, distance travelled and time spent on them. Differences between trips according to their purpose were registered between an average working day and Saturday. The average working days were characterised by periodically repetitive trips as trips to work and school whereas shopping trips, visit trips and free time trips were typical for Saturday. The longest distance from the total distance was travelled to work and school during the working days and to visit trips on Saturday. The longest time during the working days was spent on trips to work and school. During Saturday the longest time was spent on free time trips. All the results were compared to similar studies. This Bachelor´s thesis includes an accuracy comparison of data of everyday spatial mobility of members of one household. Those compared data were collected by GPS loggers and a questionnaire that was filled by the respondents.

Experimental GUHA procedures
Kuchař, Tomáš ; Mrázová, Iveta (referee) ; Rauch, Jan (advisor)
The goal of this work is a new implementation of six GUHA procedures known from LISpMiner system (4ftMiner, SD4ft-Miner, CFMiner, SDCFMiner, KLMiner, SDKLMiner) into Ferda Data Miner system environment with respect to their futher research and development. GUHA procedure automatically generates patterns from user defined set of relevant patterns and tests if it is true in the analysed data. The output of the procedure consists of all prime patterns. The pattern is prime if it is true in the analysed data and if it does not immediately follow from the other more simple output patterns. Typical effective implementation of a GUHA procedure uses suitable database representation by bit strings. Tools were created for solving above-mentioned GUHA procedures. During works were extended options of entering the relevant questions set.

Nanopatterning of Silicon Nitride Membranes
Matějka, Milan ; Krátký, Stanislav ; Řiháček, Tomáš ; Kolařík, Vladimír ; Chlumská, Jana ; Urbánek, Michal
Membranes are typically created by a thin silicon nitride (SIN) layer deposited on a silicon wafer. Both, top and bottom side of the wafer is covered by a thin layer of the silicon nitride. The principle of silicon nitride membranes preparation is based on the wet anisotropic etching of the bottom side of the silicon wafer with crystallographic orientation (100). While the basic procedure for the preparation of such membranes is well known, the nano patterning of thin membranes presents quite important challenges. This is partially due to the mechanical stress which is typically presented within such membranes. The resolution requirements of the membrane patterning have gradually increased. Advanced lithographic techniques and etching procedures had to be developed. This paper summarizes theoretical aspects, technological issues and achieved results. The application potential of silicon nitride membranes as a base for multifunctional micro system (MMS) is also\ndiscussed.
