Polyphony in the work of J. B. Foerster and his contemporaries
Židek, Tomáš ; KOUTNÍK, Tomáš (advisor) ; CHVÁLA, Jiří (referee)
Josef Bohuslav Foerster (1859 - 1951) was a leading Czech composer of the late romantic era, like for example Josef Suk (1875 - 1935), Vítězslav Novák (1870 - 1949) and Otakar Ostrčil (1879 - 1935). This generation is sometimes called as "The first generation of Czech modern", but their musical language is directly connected to oeuvre by famous Czech composers of the nineteenth century Smetana, Dvořák and Fibich. Foerster's musical language is mystical, lyrical and emotional, mostly replete rich harmony and especially specific polyphony. He was not only an important musician but also a thinker, writer and painter. Until today, his great composer's work is not valued and only sometimes performed. This thesis is concerned with the specific traits of composer's musical language, polyphony, which is often different from Bach, Beethoven or Smetana. We can talk about specific free polyphony and way of musical thinking dependent on many things and ideas. This cause and many others aspects provide particular problems for performers and music listeners. The dissertation includes many analyses of selected compositions by Foerster, which are also compared with others by his contemporaries, especially Suk and Mahler (1860 - 1911), who was Foerster's close friend. In liturgical music Foerster created a unique and very distinctive product of the Caecilian reform movement in church music, which had its striking culmination in the Czech lands during Foerster's lifetime. Extensive choral oeuvre is made in a specific musical-poetic style. Symphonic compositions, especially five symphonies are to a large extent autobiographical; and operas are in a realistic concept, which we can compare with dramas by Leoš Janáček (1854 - 1928). The thesis is based upon author's wide experience of performing composer's work and large volume of literature with some works written by J. B. Foerster. The author tries to solve problems of performing this music, as a conductor, choir master, educator and propagator.

The History of Messianic Ideas with Regard to Isaiah 52,13 {--} 53,12
FÜRSTOVÁ, Veronika
This work is focused on the history of Messianic ideas in context of the Old Testament, in Jewish nation in the period between the Old and the New Testaments, and in the area of ancient Near East (Egypt, Mesopotamy, and preIsraelite Kanaan). The author of the work regards Messianic ideas in the area of Mediterrean and Persia in the age of Hellenism. She also considers eschatological Messianic figures in Islam, Hinduism and Buddhism. In the second part of the work, she studies the passage from prophet Isaiah 52,13-53,12 and its figure of Lord{\crq}s servant, then she also mentions the impact of that figure on the authors of the New Testament. The Messiah figure's origin lies in preIsraelite religious ideas of ancient Orient. The Jewish idea of Messiah differs from the others. The work is concluded by the statement, that concepts of "Messiah" as well as "Servant" in DeuteroIsaiah expresses mission and function, which was in different backgrounds interpreted in a different way. Various figures, especially kings, entered this role. The saving function of the Messiah consists in certain sacrifice, sometimes self-sacrifice, which considerably improves the quality of life of particular group of people.

Tourism analysis in the Brandýs region
Vaněčková, Petra ; Vágner, Jiří (advisor) ; Nosková, Alena (referee)
The main objective of this diploma thesis is to examine aspects of tourism and recreation in the model region in the northeast hinterland of Prague. In the first part the recreational potential of region is analyzed, paying attention to predisposition to tourism development and its possible different forms. Stress was given to evolution and specifics of second housing (spatial distribution, characteristics of recreational use etc.) and perspectives on other forms of tourism (cognitive, culture and religious tourism, bicycle tourism etc.) with respect to suburbanization process in the region. Second housing can be a barrier for other suburbanization functions and a limit for development in other recreational and tourist functions. The next part of the study focuses on organizing and managing tourism in the region (significant projects and investments). The final chapter summarizes the main findings. Main research method of the study is questionnaire surveys (second home users, visitors, accommodation facilities, municipal representatives) joined with available data analysis. Selected important results are given in tables and graphs. Photo documentation forms an illustrative part of the study. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)

Consumer contracts. Direct sale in the Czech Republic, the EU and the USA.
Strnadel, Dalibor ; Dvořák, Jan (referee) ; Salač, Josef (advisor)
- 142 - Abstract The purpose of my thesis is to analyse the regulation of consumer contracts negotiated away from permanent retail locations and to outline the industry of direct selling in the Czech Republic, the European Union and the United States. The thesis is subdivided into six independent chapters. Chapter One is introductory and defines basic terminology used in the thesis. This chapter is divided into three parts. Part One defines direct selling as a channel of distribution for the marketing of products and services directly to consumers. Part Two presents different kinds of direct selling, i.e. door-to-door selling, person-to-person selling, home parties and group selling. Finally Part Three compares direct selling with distance selling. Chapter Two provides an outline of the relevant legal regulation of direct selling. The current legislation in the European level is composed of Directive 85/577/EEC which relates to protection of the consumers in respect of contracts negotiated away from business premises. The Directive has been implemented into Czech legal system on the basis of the Czech Republic's membership in the European Union. The Directive is provided in Section 57 of Czech Civil Code 40/1964 Coll. This Part also looks at the process of the review of the consumer acquis. Chapter...

Biofuels used in diesel engines
Voborníková, Tereza ; Písař, Pavel (advisor) ; Petrášek, František (referee)
Impaired environment, political instability in the countries which are the main oil producers, development of the local economies and utilization of the agricultural surplus -- these theses are the main reasons for using biofuels as the alternative. Ambiguous results in these areas and publicity of inaccurate information in media give a chance to various groups to try to enforce their own interests in that area. In this paper I discuss the recent situation of "MEŘO", the dominant bio-component adding to the oil, in the Czech Republic. I study the fuel market relations, production capacities, base of raw materials as well as the impacts of new factory in actual area. I try to find the answers to the most controversial questions. I come to the result that present first generation biofuels are the partial solution of the energetic situation, which could be good for economy and does not threaten consumers. However ecologists and economists criticize. My conclusion is that the investments on second generation biofuels and other alternative fuels development should not discontinue.

An interpretation of the Apostolic Creed in terms of the Christian Fellowship's belief
Wagner, Petr ; Vogel, Jiří (advisor) ; Kučera, Zdeněk (referee)
Křesťanská společenství (Christian Fellowship) is an integral part of the Czech pentecostal movement, or more precisely of its charismatic part for almost 17 years. Founded shortly after the fall of communism by Dan Drápal, formerly vicar of the Evangelical church of Czech Brethren, Christian fellowship wasn't originally meant to become a church. Drápal started his ministry in a small congregation in 1977 in Prague as a liberal oriented Christian, but after two years he was born again and than baptized in Holy Spirit. The congregation experienced an incredibly quick growth through the late 80s, which first led to problems with the communist Secret police and than to discussions with the Evangelical church of Czech Brethren itself concerning different ways of understanding. The separation came later, in 1990.

Social perceptions of the Roma in Czechoslovakian and Czech cinema
Všechny tyto zdánlivé detaily nesmírně ovlivňují celý diskurz o daném filmu, o kinematografii zabývající se menšinami, a konečně přispívají i k diskusi o minoritách vůbec. Vladimir Nabokov - as a Translator of his own Works
Srpová, Kateřina ; Hlaváček, Antonín (advisor) ; Hříbková, Radka (referee)
The aim of this thesis was to compare the output of Vladimir Nabokov - the translator, and Vladimir Nabokov - the translator of his own works. Therefore the first part of this thesis deals mainly with Nabokov's language background. Nabokov was a bilingual author who wrote with equal fluency both in Russian and English, sometimes even in French. He was able to translate from and into these languages too. Nabokov began his translating career as a significant representative of free translation method. His translation of Carroll's Alice in Wonderland into Russian may serve a good example of this approach. However, during his life his attitude towards translation completely changed to an extreme of literalism. After the disastrous translation of his novel Kamera obskura into English carried out by Winifred Roy, Nabokov concluded that it is only the author himself who has the right to change anything in the process of translation. In agreement with this principle, he embraced an extremely literalist doctrine in translating Eugen Onegin into English. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)

The History of "Tramping" (Hiking) in the Kačáku Basin
A jelikož sám patřil k průkopníkům trampingu, čerpal často z vlastních vzpomínek a vyprávění pamětníků. Dalším důležitým pramenem, zabývajícím se historií trampingu, je kniha Český tramping 1918 - 1945 autorů M. Waice a J. Kossla. Je to relativně novodobé dílo, vydané v roce 1992. Díky tomu představuje danou problematiku...

The Fetish of the Oldest Sound. Science, politics, and the fascination with the beginnings of sound recordings
Kratochvíl, Matěj
The invention of the phonograph in the late 19th century started an obsession with the recorded sound as a document of history. As such it became an important part of the human need to create stories from archival materials and to see them as parts of objective truth, a direct connection with the past. With the growing accessibility of historical audio documents, we need to look critically at these sources and at the possibility to take them as a trace leading to the beginning of a particular part of music history. The present paper shows in which ways we can see the phenomenon of sound recording truly as the beginning of something new and in which cases such an impression can be misleading. Unconsciously or with a political or other intent, recordings can present music in a very different, sometimes distorted form. With special focus on traditional music, the author attempts to formulate some general ideas that should be kept in mind when dealing with historical recordings so that we do not become too fascinated with the “past speaking directly to us”.
