Rabies - constantly persisting risk for human population
Juráňová, Petra ; Čelko, Alexander (advisor)
Rabies and definition of the risk for human population is topic my of fiploma work. Wellknown facts we can summarize in few sentences: Rabies is caused by neurotropic viruses of the family Rhabdoviridae. Rabies is a disease that affects all warm-blooded hosts - including wild animals, domestic animals, and humans. The target of rabies virus is the brain and spinal cord and causes acute encephalomyelitis. The rabies virus infects the body usually through a bite from a rabid animal. Virus is present in saliva. The outcome is almost always fatal. Only protective immunity prevents a lethal outcome. Treatment doesn't exist, but rabies is a vaccine-preventable disease. Active and passive immunisation is possible. Infection is found on all continents except Antarctida. In certain areas of the world rabies remains endemic (Africa, Asia, Central and South America), and there is a high risk of a infection. Czech republic is a rabies-free. Each year, it kills more than 50 000 people and millions of animals around the world.

Psychological violence at work
Humrová, Kateřina ; Michalová, Lucie (referee) ; Kocianová, Renata (advisor)
Psychical violence at work - mobbing - it is a serious problem. It significantly influences health of workers, and despite there is not enough devoted attention to that problem. Reasons of the phenomenon are in the mobber's personality, badly adjusted firm culture, and mainly in the style of managing. The managers should realise mobbing does not have negative effects only for the victim, but for all company as well. They should learn to prevent and solve this situation. Mostly only results but not reasons have been removed. The aim of my work is to refer to dangerousness of this pathological phenomenon and its reasons which is mobbing causing.

Theory and Practice of Financial Analysis
Jakova, Ivana ; Taušer, Josef (advisor) ; Černá, Iveta (referee)
Analysts, managers or other business executives and students have at their disposal wide variety analytical techniques when they want to evaluate company's financial position or when they wish to better understand the financial implication of business operational activities or investment. This thesis examines the uses of financial analysis as one of the main financial assessment techniques. After describing theoretically the main tools of financial analysis, this thesis determines the practicality of these tools in evaluating the financial health of a car distributor company for the period from year 2002 to year 2009. Despite the fact that the analyzed company's core business is car distributor, this analysis takes into consideration also other activities of the company such as repair center because, as the analysis shows, it influenced the financial results of the company. This thesis is concluded with general outcomes from the financial analysis and with recommendation for the company in order to prevent potential risks and in order to improve its financial results.

Constructive Engagement or Illegal Investment?
Levely, Ian ; Levrincová, Petra (advisor) ; Riegl, Martin (referee)
This thesis examines the role of transnational corporations in preventing human rights abuse and conflict, along with the limits to proactive strategies and engagement with host governments. It concludes by applying these principles in a case study: the oil and gas industry in Burma. The issue is approached both practically and theoretically from economic, legal and political approaches. In some cases it is possible for companies to avoid or mitigate risks by adopting proactive strategies that might included training and community development programs. A firm that recognizes these issues and adopts a socially responsible strategy may justify their presence in a given country based on the overall effect it has, despite some negative consequences, such as financing a corrupt regime. Furthermore, it can be assumed in many cases that a firm that withdraws will quickly be replaced by another firm, which may be less sensitive to these concerns. Based on these grounds, a company might argue that their presence in a country where the government does not respect human rights represents constructive engagement with the host country's regime. While this line of reasoning is certainly valid, and while this strategy is feasible in some cases, there are certain boundaries that firms should not cross. Firstly, any...

Non-coding RNA in hepresvirus infection
Pelák, Ondřej ; Holá, Dana (referee) ; Drda Morávková, Alena (advisor)
MiRNAs are endogenous short RNAs that are well conserved in eukaryotic organisms and are thought to be a vital and evolutionarily ancient component of genetic regulation. Their key role is in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression. Some viruses were able to utilize the capabilities of these tiny RNAs to regulate their own gen expression or to regulate host gene expression in use of avoidance from immunity answers to their presence. Among these viruses belongs also the Herpesviridae family. Members of this family are using miRNA in various ways, from regulation of their own gene expression to targeting host mRNA, which prevents translation of factors related to immune answers. This work is intent on biogenesis of miRNA, its mechanism, function and manner in which it is used by representatives from Herpesviridae family.

The Role of FBH1 in Maintenance of Genome Stability
Šimandlová, Jitka ; Kratochvíl, Lukáš (referee) ; chevelev, Igor (advisor)
The genome is constantly threatened by various damaging agents and maintaining its integrity is crucial for all organisms. Several repair pathways have been implicated in the removal of different types of lesions from DNA. Among them, homologous recombination (HR) plays a key role in repair of double-strand breaks. HR is a highly important repair mechanism which has to be tightly regulated to prevent excessive HR events. These events could interfere with other DNA repair pathways, generate toxic intermediates, or block the progression of the replication fork. Therefore, it is not surprising that cells have evolved mechanisms that counteract inappropriate HR events. As it has been shown recently, cells possess DNA helicases capable of preventing excessive recombination. A novel human DNA helicase, hFBH1, belonging to the superfamily I has been shown to function as pro- and anti- recombinase. Similar to the two members of RecQ family, BLM and RECQL5, FBH1 disrupts Rad51 from nucleofilament. However, FBH1 might also promote initiation of HR. The FBH1 helicase possesses additional high conserved F-box motif which allows it to act within a Skp1-Cullin-F-box, SCF, complex as ubiquitin ligase and target proteins for degradation.

The Issue of Alcohol Dependence in Adolescents
FILIPOVÁ, Darina
Researches focused on the issues of alcohol addiction performed in the Czech Republic show that the number of alcohol addicts is higher every year and alcoholism has become a serious public health problem. There are more and more addicts every year, which is except others backed by the words that MUDr. Petr Popov, senior consultant of the Addiction Treatment Department of the General Faculty Hospital in Prague, said to the Právo daily on 10 March 2010: ?We used to have about 300 thousand alcohol addicts. Now there are between 600 and 700 thousand. There are twice as many men as women, but women have been gaining on men?. As an article in the Mladá Fronta Dnes of 21 February 2012 says, the number of young alcohol consumers is increasing, while about a fifth of 16 year olds admit drinking five or more glasses at least three times a month. This results from 2011 research quoted in the above article. My thesis dealing with the issues of alcohol addiction in teenagers wants to map the situation among teenagers of České Budějovice region and their knowledge of the impacts of excessive alcohol consumption on their personal and family lives, social lives and relations. The theoretical part deals with the problems of the process and occurrence of alcohol addiction in general and with the social and health consequences of excessive alcohol consumption, with the factors influencing teenagers to consumption of alcohol and other drugs and prevention in the field of addiction focused on teenagers. In the research part I particularly focus on socioeconomic background of young respondents, personal experience with alcohol and marginally on the other addictive substances. I also focus on mapping the knowledge of the consequences of alcohol consumption, influence of environment and of free time activities. I applied quantitative research, in the form of a questionnaire. My research shows that most of teenagers are aware of the consequences of alcohol consumption or abuse, but they do not limit alcohol consumption in their lives and they actually increase its consumption as they are growing older. More systematic application of training seminars focused on more consistent care about personal and social development and better orientation of free time activities can definitely contribute to prevention of alcohol abuse, of addiction development among teenagers, to further improvement of their knowledge and skills used for alcohol consumption reduction and consequent addiction. Better legislation measures in the field of punishing young users of alcohol and drugs would undoubtedly contribute as well.

Possibilities of Social Workers at Schools
PETŘINA, Pavla
This thesis is about the possibilities whether to employ social workers in primary schools. The aim my work was find out, whether pedagogical staff in primary schools consider the presence of a social worker as very useful and important thing in primary schools. Furthermore I compared views of the pedagogical staff of primary school in villages consisting of up to10 000 inhabitants and above 10 000 inhabitants their views concerned the utility of social workers in primary school. In theoretic parts I explained the important areas related to a specific subject like: social - work, a caseworker, school social - work, consultancy at schools and relationship between the family and the school. In practical parts are described aims of work, conjectures, methods research and rating experimental set. These are all present above the record quantitative research. I chose this asking method through the questionnaire techniques. The research went ahead via direct and indirect (electronic by post) contacting form. The pedagogues were the experimental set of the selected primary school in towns consisting of up to 10 000 inhabitant and above 10 000 inhabitant. Records showed that the pedagogues assume that the introduction of this position for school caseworker at primary school would be in Czech Republic beneficial. To employ the caseworker at primary school were The views about employing a caseworker at primary school were both the same (pedagogues of primary school in municipality up to 10 000 inhabitants and above 10 000 inhabitants). Curtail school activities for the caseworker would be social consultancy, social therapeutic activity, activity in the area of prevention and social rehabilitation. According to pedagogues the biggest problem in introduction of school social - work is the lack of finances in school resort. There is not mention a lot about school social - work currently in the Czech republic, therefore I would like this thesis to become the base for discussions upon this subject and for others experimental activity.
