Manual for Journalists: How to Work With Disinformation

This Bachelor's thesis focuses on disinformation and ways how to tackle it. In the beginning, the theoretical part introduces definitions of the fundamental terms, such as disinformation, misinformation, malinformation, and fake news, whose knowledge is crucial when working with this matter. Further, it describes the Czech disinformation scene in contrast to analyzes of the code of ethics of Czech mainstream online media, which are compared with a code of British public broadcasting company BBC. The theoretical part is also dedicated to the key topics for its practical part. Among those is knowledge of disinformation of Czech journalists and cognitive functions of the human's brain which have a significant influence on sharing false information. The practical part consists handbook for junior journalists which, apart from the theoretical part, is based on interviews with more than ten Finnish journalists, and experts on disinformation and media education. Opinion Leaders Among Czech 21st Century Journalists

The objective of this master's thesis is to examine the concept of opinion leadership-to define it, to describe where it originated from, how it has developed over time, and finally, to apply this phenomenon to the Czech journalist community and its current members. Based on relevant international literature, the author of this paper assumes that opinion leaders exist in every social group or community around the globe, possessing an extraordinary personal influence on the decision-making and opinion-forming process of the people within their social network. Simply put, opinion leaders are the individuals to whom others look for guidance, credible and accurate information and context when they are in doubt or experiencing indecisiveness. For journalists, the possibility to have someone to whom they can turn for all the above-mentioned is crucial, the author believes, for it is a daily part of the profession to handle information cautiously, to evaluate news critically and objectively, and to get acquainted with a confusing topic in a relatively short period of time. Broadcasting with a Face Mask - Insight into Czech TV News Production in the middle of the Coronavirus Crisis

The thesis documents circumstances of TV news production at the time when the government was taking unprecedented measures to prevent from spreading of a new type of coronavirus (SARS- CoV-2). The documentation is based on ten interviews with Czech Television reporters and anchormen together with both the analysis and interpretation of these interviews. The work is bringing the evidence of journalists from the most turbulent period. It makes efforts to contextualize how the journalists perceived the government interventions as well as enforced changes in the course of their work. The thesis reflects also the role of the journalists themselves and how they see it themselves. The majority of interviews were done during emergency rule. The final text is based on oral history method alongside with the reflection on contact points with journalism. It reflects also on a possibility whether the coronavirus crisis might move both mentioned professions forward.
Sport in Czechoslovakian specialized magazines in the First Republic - developement of sport journalism between years 1918 and 1938

This diploma thesis deals with development of sports journalism during the First Czechoslovak Republic, which applies to the period from October 1918 unBl Munich agreement in September 1938. Research is focused parBcularly on specialized sports magazines and it is based on analysis of the six most significant ones - Slavista, Sportovni revue, Sportovni vestnik, Sport, Star and Rekord. The aim of this thesis is to describe the progress of sport journalism between world wars in the broader context and get to know whether or not had sport journalism developed into a full-Bme occupaBon. In addiBon this text portrays the most influenBal sport journalists of that period - Karel Petru, Josef Fanta, Miloslav Josef Horacek and Ondrej Sekora and also brings a chapter about sports photography, which was inseparable part of popular sport magazines. This thesis is a first scholarly text to bring a wider perspecBve on specialized sports magazines in Czechoslovak Republic between years 1918 and 1938 and follows the cooperaBon and rivality among journalists and their influence on sport in Czechoslovakia in general. One chapter was devoted to sports photography, because it played important role in successful sports magazines.
Internet TV Stream: Alternative and Competition of Classical Televisions (Specifics of Show of Luděk Staněk and its Analysis)

The topic of this thesis is the online TV channel Stream. In the theoretical part, we described how online TV works in general. The following paragraph depicted the milestones of Stream TV. The practical part was dedicated to the semiotic analysis of Luděk Staněk's TV show of the online TV channel Stream. This chapter also includes the interview with the program presenter Luděk Staněk. In the interview, we dealt with Staněk's role in the show. The intention of this thesis was to describe how the online TV channel Stream works and analyze the Luděk Staněk's show.
The course of press conferences after matches of the 1 st Czech Football League

In this paper, I deal with the issue of press conferences after matches of 1st soccer league. My goal is in the first place to describe press conferences as a part of public relations and as one of main and most important categories of respondents interacting with journalists. In the first part of my master thesis I examine sports journalism and its specifics and differences against other fields of this profession. For research itself I used techniques of observation and questioning, but mainly I worked with the data gained during interviews and information obtained by myself, as an involved observer. During my observation I have visited 14 press conferences throughout one season of 1st soccer league in total that took place all around Czech Republic. The goals of researching these events were its course, specifically how long the events were and in which environment, but also what are the rules for its organisation and how those rules are complied. Another subject of my research was a position of a spokespersons and work of journalists, whose job is to question. I was also interested in a manner of questioning and topics of questions in this area. Union of the journalists following of events Prague spring and its consequences at the time of normalization

The diploma thesis desribes the situation in Czech Union of Journalists during the Prague Spring era and the normalization era. Its aim is to explain to the reader how the situation changed after the intervention of Soviet army in August 1968. Prague Spring is generally perceived as a period of regime measures release and progressive ideas establishment. On the other hand, in the era after the Occupation strated theperiod of normalization and consolidation, which brought many repressive measures to light. It all took its toll in the function of Union of Journalists and the whole media sphere. The function of the Union o journalists becomes important from the political and ideological view. Attention is on the Union's structure as well. Thesis is focused on the period of 1968 to 1972 and embraces the historical events from Prague Spring to VI. Congress of the Union, in which the allegiance to Communist Party of Czechoslovakia was pladged by the journalists. It describes how the journalists were forced to conform their pursiut to the regime. Main focus is on the way of presentation of the journalists themselves, the relations in the Union and the change of the prestige and role of the journalist in the society before and after the normalization era. Constitutional court of Czech Republic decisions on media

This bachelor thesis concerns decisions of the Czech Republic Constitutional Court affecting medial area. It is divided into four chapters of which the first two are theoretical while the other two are practical oriented. Chapter one describes the term medial system and presents their individual models and presents Czech Republic as one these. This chapter also describes legislation concerning freedom of speech and the legal protection of personality. The second chapter focuses on the Constitutional Court of Czech Republic and its position in Czech judicatory system and explains means of how the Court can affect media and journalists. It also concerns obligatory effect the Court's decisions within Czech law system. Practical part of the thesis is dedicated to analysis of several Constitutional Court's decisions. This part of the paper discover the Court's influence on Czech medial environment and the work of journalists. The Constitutional Court has defined the boundaries of law execution regarding the freedom of speech and also defined several concepts connected to media. This thesis shows that the Court affect journalists' work in the way that they know how to phrase their statements without disturbing the freedom of speech.
