The Image of the Czech Republic in the Pages of German Newspapers within Context of the European Migration Crisis

This master's thesis examines the image of the Czech Republic that the German media promote in the context of the European migration crisis. For this purpose, articles from three German daily newspapers dating from 2015 until 2016 were examined. The research was carried out on 186 articles using quantitative content analysis and constant comparative method. Throughout the research the information on when and how the media wrote about the Czech Republic were gathered. In the context of the European migration crisis a recurring image of the Czech Republic was created mainly through the EU perspective, along with the other members of the Visegrad Group. For its rejecting position of the European solution for the crisis, which was supported by Germany, the image of the Czech Republic is rather negative and the state is denounced for lacking. The German media coverage of the Czech Republic was strongly politicized and embodied by politicians. The results of the research can provide an overview of the perception of the Czech Republic by Germany during the European migration crisis. The results can contribute to further research on this current topic as well.

An Image of the Years 1948, 1953 and 1968 on Pages of the Karlovy Vary Press

Academic paper "An Image of the Years 1948, 1953 and 1968 on Pages of the Karlovy Vary Press" analyses specific articles from newspapers that were published in Karlovy Vary. In 1948 it was newpaper called Budovatel - List Čs. sociální demokracie and Jednota - List pracujících hraničářů. In 1953 we follow newspaper Stráž míru and Karlovarský kraj. We selected several articles which we analysed and described in detail from the perspective of content and thematic focus. We are looking for answers to the questions we have established in the theoretical part. In 1948, we look for references in the texts, for example, to the expulsion of the Germans from Czechoslovakia; new settlement within the areas Germans left, or we look for references to the communist coup in February 1948. In articles from 1953, we follow the information about the deaths of J. V. Stalin and Klement Gottwald. We also look for references about monetary reform in the texts. The work aims to approach the historical environment of the Karlovy Vary region from the perspective of the above-mentioned newspapers.

Czech contemporary architecture in czech print media

The bachelor thesis "Media reflexion czech contemporary architecture in czech periodical" deals with research media representation contemporary czech architecture in daily newspapers Pravo, Lidove noviny and periodical Reflex in the period from 1st January to 31st December 2012 and 2016. The theoretical part of this thesis explains media concepts, describes concept of representation and stereotype represantion. Next part of this thesis deals with subject of contemporary architecture, focus on status of architecture in society and also on the relationship of architecture and media. In partical part, first, I Introduce to the metod of quantitative content analysis, then I explain the procedure of reaserch. Then I presents the results of the reaserch and their interpretation. The evaluation of reaserch data I reply reaserch questions and partly disclaims the hypothesis. Czech contemporary architecture in newspapers and periodical is found mostly in Home News and supplements. We can say, that the representation of this subject in media is created in stereotypical framework. The range and the genre of articles depend of the place in structure of media. Transformation of the czech media ownership structures in the early 21 century

The primary goal of this master thesis was to analyze the development of ownership of daily newspapers in the Czech Republic in the period 2008 - 2016. The development of media ownership in the monitored period was analyzed in the context of the long term structural problems of media sector, which were intensified by the economic crisis beginning in 2008. In addition to the economic context, the thesis also deals with the historical context, specifically the changes of the Czech daily newspapers market after 1989. In connection with the transfer of ownership of the Czech publishing houses to the hands of domestic businessmen, often with direct links to politics, thesis also deals with the issue of ownership concentration and the relations between media and politics. I also mention the phenomenon of emerging new, alternative media projects by the journalists in reaction to ownership changes threatening pluralism and freedom of speech. In the end, I also compare the development of ownership of the daily newspapers in the Czech Republic with the development of ownership in other countries of the CEE region, such as Slovakia, Poland, Hungary or the Baltic States.
