Lucía Jerez as a novel of Hispanoamerican Modernism

(in English): This work focuses on the novel titled Lucía Jerez which represents the only novel written by Cuban author, heroe and so-called freedom fighter José Martí. The objective of this work was to prove that this short book rightly can be seen as a modernistic novel and even can be considered as the first one in which all of the modernistic tendencies of new aesthetics are present. Using specific examples from the original novel, I tried to show the importance of this book in the context of the history of Spanish-American literature and to demonstrate several elements of the modernistic creation. Firstly I had proceeded from my personal feelings and beliefs which I later completed by opinions of literary critics. In most cases we concided, but of course there were some points in which my view differed in comparision with a general assertion. Despite these discrepancies in the understanding of some aspects of the book, I think José Martí managed to create a unique work. Lucía Jerez contains everything that is according to theories of modernistic work and Martí also achieved to impress Hispanoamerican character to the book. Even though we can find traces of Romanticism, Lucía Jerez is inherently modernistic work because of its critical approach.
The Czechoslovak Hussite religious community in Prague's Vinohrady in years 1920-1950

The submitted thesis deals with the history of the Czechoslovak Hussite Church, focusing on a detailed analysis of one of its most significant religious community in the Vinohrady district of Prague, from its beginnings in 1920 up to 1950. It spans the first thirty years of its existence within the wider historical context . As all sorts of momentous, sometimes even breakthrough events, assisted to birth a new church, it was necessary to state these events together with the preconditions of its birth. Therefore the volume of the thesis has been extended and more general information from the time preceding the birth of a new church has been included. One individual chapter has been dedicated to the construction of the church building in Prague, the Vinohrady district as I consider that it deserves our adequate attention.
Narrative Structures in Virginia Woolf's Shorter Fiction

Thesis Abstract One of the basic principles of modernism was to evaluate existing traditions and cultural norms, to innovate them, and to get rid of them if necessary. The need and urge to innovate proved to be immensely productive in the short story genre. The short story is now perceived as independent of other prose forms precisely thanks to the modernists. Virginia Woolf was one of the most enthusiastic innovators of the form, her work in the genre is nevertheless often overlooked in comparison to her novels, or even in comparison to other short story writers, such as Katherine Mansfield or James Joyce. This thesis deals with selected narrative structures in Virginia Woolf's shorter fiction. It works with the basic assumption that when Woolf's short stories are read, her novels have to be taken into account as well due to numerous thematic and other affinities. However, it is also of importance to evaluate Woolf's short fiction without measuring them against her novels as these are two distinct genres. The thesis introduction presents an overview of the literary and cultural context of the times in which Woolf lived and wrote, with emphasis on her familiarity with the Russian writers, primarily Chekhov, and the first Post-Impressionist painters. ThDr. Marketa Langer Praha, 2018 THE THEOLOGICAL LEGACY OF CZECH MODERNISM IN THE LIFE AND WORK OF FRANTIŠEK BÍLEK ABSTRACT This thesis looks at the life and work of the artist Frantisek B lek in relation to the theological legacy of Czech Catholic modernism at the end of the nineteenth and early twentieth century over three chapters. Its objective is to answer three questions: Was the artist the mystic he was perceived to be at the time? Can he be termed a modernist? What were his reasons for joining the Czechoslovak Church when it was founded in 1920? The study uses the method of hypotheses which are stated in advance in the questions posed, and then subsequently tested. Another method used is an analysis and comparison of the approach and attitudes of Czech society to the artist during his life. The introductory chapter describes the study's key indicators with a brief description of the issues, and also the form and structure used. Representation of the House in British Fiction /1906-2009)

The diploma thesis focuses on diverse representations of the house in selected British novels since 1906. The novels have been chosen in reference to the importance assigned to houses in terms of plot, characters, and setting, each offering a unique vision of the house. A house is perceived as a home, as a possession or as a work of art. The novels by E.M. Forster, John Galsworthy and Simon Mawer are viewed through the prism of Phenomenology, namely the essays of Martin Heidegger, Jan Patočka and Anna Hogenová. This type of analysis provides an insight into the motivations of the individual characters, but also a deeper understanding of the function and role of the house in fiction as well as in reality. Chandigarh - Indian dream of the city

This Bachelor’s Thesis deals with the creation and development of the Indian city of Chandigarh, built on the green field. Its creation was necessitated by major political problems related to the establishment of India as a sovereign nation. The first part explains architectural and urban principles of the world-famous architect Le Corbusier, who was the author of the Master Plan of Chandigarh. Subsequently, the creation and development of Chandigarh is laid out, up to the present. The practical section compares Chandigarh with Amritsar, a traditional Indian city, followed by a study of the present state of selected city sectors, together with an analysis of the land use. The purpose of the Thesis is to present the problems of city construction on the green field, including an analysis of functionality. Given that there is as yet no Czech work dealing with the creation, development, and present state of Chandigarh in a similar extent, this work might be found useful.
Shakespearean Intertextuality in Aldous Huxley's Brave New World

The aim of this thesis is to present intertextuality as a literary device and to offer a description of its function based on the ideas of the most prominent theorists, who are concerned with this very topic. The thesis describes the employment of intertextuality in literature and its influence on reader's interpretation of a text. The practical part analyses the use of intertextuality in Aldous Huxley's novel Brave New World, concentrating in particular on chosen theatre plays by William Shakespeare. High Tatras as a field of confrontation of Czech and Slovak modern architecture

The diploma thesis author will conduct a study about architecture in the territory of the High Tatras in the period from the beginning of the recreational and spa architecture to the preparation of the World Championships in the classic ski disciplines in 1970. The topic will be developed firstly in the wider context of the discovery of the mountains by the European culture, gradual settlement and the economic use of the mountains and the emergence and development of climate baths and mountain sports centres. The heart of the study will show the High Tatras as an area of contacts of the Slovak, Czech, Hungarian and Polish architecture, with an emphasis on the mutual influences of Czech and Slovak architecture in the years 1918- 1970. Selected buildings in the area of High Tatras will be subject to comparative analysis and some of them will be compared with similar works of their authors in other parts of Slovakia and the Czech Republic. The aim of the comparative part is to determine the specifics of Slovak and Czech modern architecture and to determine the specific features of the High Tatras architecture.
