Friction analysis of hip joint replacements with coated surface
Nosek, Matěj ; Streďanská, Alexandra (referee) ; Nečas, David (advisor)
This bachelor thesis focuses on the effect that results from applying a coating to hip joint replacement based on the friction coefficient. The aim of this thesis was to conclude a comparison between individual combinations with and without coating in three types of fluids. Experimental measurements were conducted in configuration ball-on-head in a pendulum hip joint simulator. For these measurements, DEWEsoft, MATLAB, and MS Excel were used. During the measurements, four balls, two cups, and three fluids were used. The coating is a polymer-based solution made out of PEGMA-360 a PEGDMA-550. With the usage of the coating, gathered results point out that the coefficient of friction declines by a maximum of 5,4 % and increases by a maximum of 16,1 % compared to those without any coating. Results presented by this thesis may be in the service of further research of coatings and their application on hip joint replacement, which might increase the potency of those implants.

Today is the implantation of joint replacements, although a radical, but very functional restoration frequent way ill joint. The implants are placed high demands on their biocompatible and long-term function, which is directly related to wear of joint replacements in the human body. Therefore, analysis of the complex behavior of the implant in the human body is a fundamental problem of biomechanics of implants. This issue is dedicated, this dissertation thesis. Dissertation thesis deals with the solution design and development of experimental device for testing the TEP acetabula and wear identification using optical method. The proposed device allows the joint burden hole TEP physiological manner, but by working with the acetabulum burdened by Power resultant joint axis passes through the hole. The physiological loading of articular wells and evaluating the size of the loss of polyethylene is currently intensively addressed. The results of this study may in the near future, serving as information for assessing the conduct of wear prosthetic hip joint in vivo. The work is devoted to solving the problem of the size required to detect the loss of polyethylene for joint replacement arthroplasty: Design and development of experimental equipment for testing the acetabulum of the hip joint arthroplasty. Identify wear using optical methods. Design and development of experimental equipment was made in the system Inventor Professional 2010 at the level of 3D modeling. Great attention was paid to the design fit into the acetabulum TEP testing machines and gripping the acetabulum into an optical device. Management options were tested with combinations of experimental equipment engines. Suggestions were made and then tests for fixing the acetabulum into an optical device. Has the possibility of depth analysis and identification of wear joined with innovative solutions to evaluate the loss of polyethylene acetabulum arthroplasty. Identification of abrasion (loss of polyethylene) joint arthroplasty holes were carried out experimental measurements using an optical holographic interferometry. The comprehensive analysis of the results of experimental measurement of the loss of polyethylene shows that this method can identify both the size but also an area where there is even to small changes in the surface, which depend on the abrasion. One can also say that using this method we are able to affect the will or displacements that affect the size of the loss of polyethylene in joint arthroplasty hole. Despite the number of known and lessons learned arising from the results of solving the problem of design and development of experimental equipment for testing the acetabulum and hip arthroplasty wear identification using optical methods, this work is that the initial study to identify problematics wear of joint replacements. Complete resolution of this issue is beyond the scope of one doctoral thesis.

Müller, Michael ; Malá, Jitka (advisor) ; Vláčilová, Ivana (referee)
Title: The influence of flossing band on range of motion of hip joint in grappling athletes Objectives: The objective of this thesis is to determine the effectiveness of the therapeutic method "tissue flossing" in increasing the range of motion of hip rotations among recreational level grappling athletes, and whether this effect persists after a 60-minute grappling training session or during daily activities. Methods: The experimental research involved 20 healthy participants engaged in recreational- level-grappling. All participants were men aged between 18-35 years. The research consisted of four sets of measurements conducted in two rounds, referred to as input and output measurements. In the first set, an input measurement was taken to establish the baseline range of motion for hip rotation in the right lower extremity, followed by an output measurement of the values for external and internal rotation in the hip joint after a 60-minute grappling session led by an expert coach. The second set included both input and output measurements taken before and after the 60-minute training session. However, specific exercises to enhance hip rotations were incorporated before the second input measurement. The third measurement followed the same procedure as the second set, with the addition of treating...
Abdominal wall activity in patients indicated for total hip replacement compared to the population without advanced coxarthrosis
Opichalová, Klára ; Kobesová, Alena (advisor) ; Oplatková, Lenka (referee)
Introduction: The aim of this study was to explore the relationship between postural stabilization insufficiency and severe coxarthrosis indicated for total joint replacement. Postural stabilization insufficiency was assessed by abdominal wall activity. Methods: 51 participants were recruited. 26 patients with hip arthrosis (13 males and 13 females) were included in the experimental group (mean age 70.5 years, SD 9.1) and 25 participants (10 males and 15 females) in the healthy control group (mean age 70.5 years, SD 7.7). The Ohmbelt device can be used to assess the intra-abdominal pressure indirectly via abdominal wall expansion measurement. The pressure sensor within the Ohmbelt device was attached to the abdominal wall at the area above the inguinal ligament (anterior sensor) and contralateraly at the trigonum lumbale (posterior sensor) by an adjustable belt. The pressure exerted by the abdominal wall wS monitored by the sensors. All subjects were measured twice (once with the anterior sensor, the second time with the posterior sensor) in 3 postural situations - resting breathing in the upright sitting position, the diaphragm test, and holding a 2kg dumbbell in front of the body in the upright sitting position. Results: No statistically significant differences (p>0.05) were found between groups...
An investigation of friction and lubrication of coated hip joint replacement
Balcárek, Ondřej ; Horák, Zdeněk (referee) ; Nečas, David (advisor)
The thesis focused on studying the effects of a new hydrogel coating and material combinations on the coefficient of friction and formation of lubricating film in the conformal contact of hip joint replacement. Experiments were conducted using a ball-on-cup configuration with a hip pendulum simulator. The formation of the lubricating film was observed using fluorescence microscopy. The results showed that the application of the coating did not have a clear impact on the coefficient of friction. However, for pairs with a coated cup, there was a reduction in CoF by approximately 20%. Generally, lower friction was observed when using a ceramic joint head. Surprisingly, even more interesting results were obtained in the lubrication analysis, where the use of metal heads led to a reduction in the thickness of the lubricating layer. Ceramic pairs exhibited very stable behavior. In addition to friction and lubrication, the topography of the implants was further evaluated, and their wettability was analysed. Although the polymer coating was expected to be highly hydrophilic, the surface properties were only slightly influenced, which partly explains why there was no significant improvement in the tribological behavior of the replacement. As the coating applied is already patented and its effectiveness in reducing wear has been clearly demonstrated, it is appropriate to investigate this issue further, with more attention being paid to long-term experiments. Based on the obtained data, it appears that the short-term benefits of the coating are practically negligible. However, it is important to highlight that, except for minor exceptions, the application of the coating did not lead to a deterioration of properties, which is a significant outcome of this work.

Příkazká, Tereza ; Nováková, Tereza (advisor) ; Stupková, Michaela (referee)
Title: The problem of unequal length of the lower limbs in children during the growth period. Objectives: Due to the comprehensiveness of the topic, part of this diploma thesis is a more detailed mapping of the issue in the context of etiopathogenetic changes of the femur and hip joint. It is an effort to draw attention to the relevance of adequately chosen treatment management and all contexts that may contribute to the resulting asymmetry and progression of changes. The research part tends to the three specifics of the selected research groups, where the analysis of correctly selected aspects is carried out with the aim of whether the generalization proves the manifestation of some researched aspect, such as gender or disability. One of the sub-goals was to find out whether the length asymmetry is reflected in the morphological changes that are part of the X-ray images of pediatric patients and whether it can help create the risk of secondary degenerative changes. The investigated groups were represented by patients of the pediatric orthopedic department of the Bulovka University Hospital with diagnoses of Legg-Calvé-Perthes morbus, coxa vara adolescentinum and limb length discrepancy - acquired. Methods: Using the program Microsoft - Excel 2016, descriptive analysis and data processing of the...
