Canada and the Norhwest Passage? Intersection of National Sovereignty and Environmentalism?
Cox, Oliver ; Fiřtová, Magdalena (advisor) ; Vidén, Anna Karolina (referee)
According to latest scientific data the ice cap in the Arctic is receding. If it recedes for a long enough part of the year, it might become feasible to use the Northwest Passage for commercial shipping. That might pose a threat to Canadian claim of sovereignty over the Northwest Passage (NWP). A key component of Canadian assertion of sovereignty over the NWP is based on the concept of functional claim via enforcement of environmental regulations in the NWP. These environmental regulations were introduced after the voyage of American oil tanker SS Manhattan in 1969 through the Northwest Passage. This thesis examines these events in order to evaluate the role (and importance) of employing environmental arguments in Canadian claim over the Northwest Passage. In 2006, the new Canadian Government presented a shift in the Arctic discourse towards a more hard-line approach. Therefore, it is important to examine the implications of this shift and its impact on the environmental line of argumentation. This text argues that the environmental approach is still relevant and actually the most viable one. But also, this text argues that Canada lacks the necessary infrastructure to enforce the regulations and to provide other shipping services. Thus, it leaves the Northwest Passage in danger of being proclaimed...
Rehabilitation of the sensuous world from the environmental perspective of David Abram.
Slovák, Ľuboš ; Daněk, Tomáš (advisor) ; Jaroš, Filip (referee)
This thesis is an attempt to reflect on the theme of phenomena and sensuous world in the context of environmentalism. It deals with the condemnation of phenomena in the modern era science and especially in the contemporary neo-Darwinian biology, and with various attempts at rehabilitation of sensory perception as a relevant way of relating to the world in biology (Adolf Portmann, Hans Driesch) and philosophy (phenomenology, particularly Maurice Merleau-Ponty). The main subject of the thesis is the eco- phenomenology of David Abram and a comparison of his approach with the one held by contemporary biology. Based on this comparison it is argued in what manner may the thoughts of David Abram, and the effort to rehabilitate phenomena in general, be of benefit to the environmental discourse, particularly in terms of forming an original epistemology and ontology and concerning the ethical motivations. KEYWORDS: Abram, phenomenon, environmentalism, neo-Darwinism, phenomenology, eco-phenomenology
Programmatic shift of the Czech Green party: a changing concept of environmental policy
Süssová, Karolína ; Brunclík, Miloš (advisor) ; Stauber, Jakub (referee)
Bachelor thesis "Programmatic shift of the Czech Green party: a changing concept of environmental policy" provides an analysis of program's development of the Czech Green party, a specific party of the Czech party system. I use a comparison of available electoral programs prepared by party for elections to the Chamber of Deputies from 1990 to 2013.The comparison reflects both quantitative and qualitative methods of analysis of the electoral programs. The greatest emphasis is placed on environmental topics and green policy. This analysis is set in the context of the historical development of the party, which is generally feature of Green Parties. That is why I also concentrate on two basic concepts of ecological thinking - environmentalism and ecologism, whose different approaches are reflected in the political reality of Green Parties as an ideological conflict by moderates (realos) and radicals (fundis).
Determinants of Environmental Concern
Vrbíková, Lucie ; Soukup, Petr (advisor) ; Hendl, Jan (referee)
The thesis "Determinants of environmental concern" is a quantitative analysis that deals with determinants of environmental concern, the scale of new ecological paradigm, environmental behavior and ecological activism. It uses data from an international survey "International Social Survey Project Environment III" from year 2010. Strong predictors came out from the analysis, mainly cultural differences of the respondents and education. The inhabitants of Western Europe and English speaking countries have the strongest environmental concern, in contrast, in post communist countries of Eastern Europe is this concern the smallest. Post materialists and inhabitants of the richer countries have stronger environmental concern and they believe more in science and progress solving ecological problems. The perception of consequences of ecological problems on everyday life is also a strong determinant from which suffers mostly localities out of Europe. The recycling waste is most often carried away in Western Europe and English speaking countries. A strong correlation is between finished education and environmental concern as well as ecological activism, there is a weaker connection to saving natural resources.
Specifics of marketing communication of Greenpeace ČR organization
Šilhavý, Petr ; Hejlová, Denisa (advisor) ; Shavit, Anna (referee)
The bachelor thesis Specifics of marketing communication of Greenpeace ČR organization presents the Czech affiliate of global non-governmental environmental organization Greenpeace. This thesis looks at the organization from the marketing point of view perspective. Its objective is to identify specific marketing activities of Greenpeace ČR between years 2010 - 2012 on the basis of situational analysis of representative campaigns. Greenpeace does not accept funds from corporations and state institutions and therefore it is dependent on contributions from volunteers. The Czech affiliate is financially autonomous thanks to its accent on fundraising and communication. Greenpeace ČR uses inexpensive marketing and PR tools, as it follows from summary of analyzed campaigns. Due to its limited budget, Greenpeace is forced to use such campaigns which are most addressed to target groups. The main strategies are guerilla marketing and subvertising, PR and lobbing, research in cooperation with experts, online tools and publishing of promotional materials.

Czech non-governmental organisations and EU climate change policy
Stuchlíková, Zuzana ; Najšlová, Lucia (advisor) ; Šlosarčík, Ivo (referee)
The thesis aims to analyse the relations of non-governmental organisations towards the European integration process, which creates an additional platform for their interest representation. This case study focuses on how Czech non-profit organisations, which are dealing in long term with the topic of climate change, try to use the instruments and channels available at the EU level to promote their idea of the 2030 Climate and Energy Framework targets and how the EU climate action policy translates to their understanding of the topic. The thesis is based on the Europeanization theory that assumes that non-state actors are adjusting their behaviour to the existence of another platform of decision making and interest representation. I, therefore, assume, that the selected sample of Czech ecological NGOs tries to actively use the opportunity to participate in the EU decision making - especially because a climate policy is decided mostly at the EU level and therefore the outcomes, such as the 2030 Framework, present another tool to achieve change in the climate policy of the Czech Republic. I conclude that from the perspective of selected NGOs the European climate policy is perceived as an important driver behind the development in this field in both Czech Republic and global negotiations - even though...

The master’s thesis pursues the burning social issue of gaining energy sources for it to be provided and exploited effectively, efficiently, technically correct and economical, being up to the legal measures and human environment at the same time. Agrorobot, inc. was used as an example to draw the comparison between the current heavy appliances and the enhanced one, the co-generative unit, and the calculation requisite for the manufacturer – innovator and for the customer – investor.
