The housing prices in Prague had risen by more than 63% between 2002 and 2008. However since August 2008, when they reached their peak, they have been almost constantly falling. Most of the publications regarding housing prices are taking into account Prague as one of the Czech regions. On the contrary, this work analyzes housing prices in Prague and its 22 districts. In first part of this work the indicators of rent-to-price ratio, price-to-income ratio and new building development factors are considered to explain possible future development of housing prices. This is seemed to continue falling during the year 2011. The second analytical part tries to explain the housing prices according to specific locality features and macroeconomic aspects. Radicalization of the Greek Society and the Rise of Political Extremism in Greece (2000-2012)
Karasová, Nikola ; Králová, Kateřina (advisor) ; Mejstřík, Martin (referee)
This essay describes the radicalization of the Greek society and the rise of the political extremism in Greece in the period of 2000-2012. In this time important changes could have been observed in the Greek political scene and in the society which were linked to the polarization of the electorate and the growth of populism, nationalism, euroscepticism, xenophobia and racism. As a result of modernizing efforts of Constantinos Simitis cabinet (1996-2004), which were related to the Greek ambition to become fully-fledged member of the EU and the Eurozone, under the influence of globalization, immigration crisis and finally the recent slump of the Greek economy, a new social conflict emerged in Greece. This essay analyzes these problems from the perspective of the cleavages theory by Seymour M. Lipset and Stein Rokkan and tries to find social and political roots of such conflict. The radicalization of the Greek society between 2000 and 2012 does not represent a new phenomenon, but is is a continuation of long-term ideological clashes present in the Greek social reality since the World WarI. After identifying the main cleavages in interwar and postwar period the essay identifies the main conflict of Greece after the fall of junta in 1974. Afterwards it confronts the new political issues of the period 2000-2012...
CEE fiscal deficits in the course of financial crisis
Mareš, Jan ; Schneider, Ondřej (advisor) ; Jeřábek, Jakub (referee)
The thesis covers the fiscal adjustments of countries in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) since the financial crisis of 2008/2009. The topic revolves around ongoing debate about the right steps to stabilize government finances and encourage economic activity. It provides an overview of the measures undertaken by the governments of the Czech Republic, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Hungary, Poland, Slovenia and Slovakia. The discussion of fiscal rules and institutions in CEE is also presented along with their influence on budgetary discipline. We follow with the review of literature debating government expenditures and government revenues having impact on economic growth. These relationships are then explored for countries of the CEE region based on the data from 1999 onwards. We apply Granger causality tests on reduced-form vector autoregressions and since we find no significant relationships between the government revenues, expenditures and GDP, we continue with structural vector autoregression using identification procedure developed by Blanchard and Perotti (2002). After identification, we utilize impulse response analysis to compute the multipliers of government expenditures and revenues. The multipliers generally take values close to zero and are found insignificant.

The parties are divided according their demands to the central government using the Dandoy's typology. The intensification of the demands for the independence in the Catalan society and its correlation with the worsening economic indicators, as the unemployment, Catalan debt or the changes of GDP, is analysed by the linear regression analysis in the first part of the study. The connection between nationalist questions and the economic crisis is analysed in the second part of the thesis. Three tools of the election campaign in 2006, 2010 and 2012 are used for this analysis - the electoral programmes, the electoral debates and interviews in television and the electoral spots. The conclusion of the thesis is whether the nationalist demands in the Catalan society and of the Catalan political parties increased and if so, whether it is...
