Families in an adverse life situation - their migration among emergency shelters
ŠTĚRBOVÁ, Lada
The topic concerns families that were not lucky enough to live in their own house or apartment. It concerns families that, for various reasons, lost their house or apartment. They were moved out from rented flats, lodging houses, or their treaty on providing social service in another emergency shelter was terminated. In some cases, a family is not able to find a new house or apartment in time. These families then take advantage of emergency shelters. The purpose of this service is to mitigate or prevent social exclusion of people in such a situation where they lost their house or apartment. It is a resident service that provides people with no shelter a temporary place to stay. The final thesis consists of a theoretical and a practical part. The theoretical part consists of five subchapters dealing with the chosen issues. The beginning of the practical part defines the goals of the final thesis. The aim of this thesis was to map reasons for which families in an adverse life situation find it difficult to find a new house or apartment. Qualitative research and half-structured interview were chosen to find out the necessary information. The research was conducted in emergency shelters for families with children in the South Bohemian region. Seven communication partners took part in the survey. The method of open coding was used to evaluate the data. The results of the conducted survey show that there are several reasons for which families in an adverse life situation find it difficult to find a new house or apartment. The most frequent reason the communication partners mentioned was being a part of the Roma minority. Other reasons mentioned were a high number and the age of children in the family and the prejudice of the flat owners. Another issue that is hard to resolve is the lack of money to pay the deposit that flat owners require before renting a flat. This final thesis emphasises the need to adopt a law on social housing that should help to solve the flat situation of families in an adverse life situation.

Life of mothers with children in a shelter St. Alžběta in Veselíčko
BULANTOVÁ, Ludmila
The theme of asylum houses is the main subject of the bachelor´s thesis. It focuses on life of mothers and social care in the Shelter of St. Alžběta in Veselíčko. Its main objective is to map welfare services, which are provided in these asylum houses and to monitor situation of single mothers and their children. The situation of single mothers is not easy and simple. They are confronted with uncertain prospects. Issues they are mostly dealing with are accommodation, financial situation and, quite often, they are trying to escape domestic violence. They definitely deserve a normal life. This bachelor´s thesis is divided into theoretical and practical parts. The theoretical part is addressing welfare services in general and welfare services specifically in asylum houses, their mission and target groups. The succeeding part describes roles of social workers, ethical code and burnout syndrome which is frequent in a long-term social care career. The last chapter of the theoretical part focuses on family, its functions and pathological phenomena that may occur. The pathological phenomena impact primarily mental development of a child, however, they may affect also other family members. The practical part contains methodology employed to map the life in an asylum house. It is based on interviews with the female clients making use of this welfare service. Its goal is to find out what are the options for single mothers, how they are coping with their situation, why they seek out the services of asylum houses and what are the reasons for such a step. It describes in detail the attitude of social workers and their effort to integrate their clients into normal life. The research was carried out in the form of qualitative questioning. The method of choice became interview based on standardized questions. The interviews were made with clients of the Shelter of St. Alžběta in Veselíčko. As the interviews showed, women seek refuge in asylum houses mainly to get accommodation for themselves and their children. Also, they often solve their financial issues there. It is their last chance for a better life. They feel safe there and they sense order being established in their lives and those of their children. With the help of social workers, they are able to settle basic administrative affairs with local authorities which they probably would not be capable of being on their own. To conclude this one can only say that this particular welfare service is important and that the job of social workers is really hard.

Houdková, Denisa ; Matoušek, Petr (advisor) ; Svěcená, Kateřina (referee)
The thesis is based on the assumption that the shelters are used by people dependent on addictive substances. Asylum houses provide shelter to those in need to improve their quality of life, but do not provide professional assistance to persons dependent on addictive substances. The objective of my work is to analyze the possibilities to applicate an addictologist in a shelter for the homeless. I also examined the rules for entry and stay in the facility, typical patterns of drug use, and how employees of the shelter works with people with addictions, or how they cooperate with addictology services. To the data acquisition were used two methods of a conversation with the staff of the shelter open and half-structured. Another method was participant observation, study of internal rules and informative emails of the shelter. This is a case study of the one particular shelter. Most users of the shelter shows signs of addiction and addictologist would have applied here. Employees are very skeptical to treat addictions of users in the shelter, but addictologist could be applied in other activities that would focus on the needs of this target group. Such as education, motivation and user administration crisis interventions. The priority of employees in the shelter is the solution of the social situation...

In the first, theoretical part, Attachment Theory is summarized: terms, patterns of attachment behavior of children, adults' mental representations of attachment, attachment developement, application of Attachment Theory into psychotherapy, as well as statistical contexts. Research work then involves qualitative analysis of attachment styles in current relationships of women from shelters for mothers and children in Czech Republic; here the Current Relationship Interview (CRI) method is applied. As a result, it gives 80 % insecure (60 % dismissing, 20 % preoccupied) and 20 % secure persons. This differs significantly from standard population, where 59 % persons are identified as secure. Qualitative analysis of 19 CRI scales gives some characteristic features of relationship of such a woman, e.g., remarkable lack of love and high conflict between her parents, lacking in love with partner, infrequent or inadequate caregiving and inability to seek or accept care from partner.
