The effect of forced Ukrainian migration on the labour market in the Czech Republic
Stavarová, Nikola ; Pertold-Gebicka, Barbara (advisor) ; Šťastná, Lenka (referee)
This work aims to analyze the effect of forced migration on the Czech labor market. Specifically, I investigated the possible impact of the wave of refugees on the development of unemployment in localities of the Czech Republic after the outbreak of the war in Ukraine on February 24, 2022. I based the analysis on cross-sectional data at the district level and I added observation for Prague to the dataset. I've had data on unemployment and migration for the 2022-2023 period. I created a model where the dependent variable was the percentage difference in unemployment, which represented its development, and the main explanatory variable was migration. I also added other independent variables for more accurate estimates. I estimated this model using the method of ordinary least squares and I also used the two- stage least squares method due to the assumption of endogenity. As part of the second- mentioned method, I used the instrumental variable of the level of the Ukrainian population from 2018. I statistically tested the endogeneity in the model with the Hausmann test. I also estimated the models on a limited dataset, where I omitted three observations with outliers. I complemented the entire analysis of forced immigration with an analysis of economic migration, which reflected the main research, and...

Zemanová, Veronika ; Kotrusová, Miriam (advisor) ; Nekolová, Markéta (referee)
This bachelor's thesis deals with comparison of active employment policy in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. I have chosen these countries because despite their similar socio- demographic conditions and common historical, economic and cultural background, we can observe many differences in unemployment between them since the introduction of a market economy. While the Czech Republic ranks among European countries with average unemployment rate, Slovakia has one of the highest unemployment rate in EU. In the first part I focus on unemployment in general, employment policy and its elements, meanings and targets of active employment policy. Further, using comparison of the average unemployment rate in both countries, I describe unemployment situation in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. A whole chapter is focused on specifications of five basic risk groups on the labor market as a criterion of measure analysis of active employment policy. Definition of the risk groups' situation on the labor market is based on average (un)employment rate of each single group. Individual instruments of active employment policy I describe from the perspective of disadvantaged groups of job seekers and as a result came up a chart where the instruments of active employment policy are divided by belonging to the certain...

Ex-prisoners and the Labour Market in the Czech Republic
Kantová, Klára ; Špolcová, Dominika (advisor) ; Mysíková, Martina (referee)
Unemployment rate is a key macroeconomic indicator of a state's prosperity. This study aims to investigate the effect of ex-prisoners on unemployment rate at times of low rate of unemployment. The subjects of interest are those released from prison upon serving their sentence and their integration into the labour market. Currently, formerly incarcerated individuals are often socially rejected and discriminated by the public, which usually results in their return to prison. Thus, as a means to prevent recidivism, it is important to reintegrate them back into the society. In this vein, this study also examines the effect of unemployment rates and ex-prisoners on the recidivism rate in the Czech Republic in 1992 to 2018. For the 2014 to 2018 period, it further investigates this effect (i.e. of unemployment rates and ex-prisoners on recidivism rates) by month across 13 regions (there is no prison in the Zlín region). It uses the data provided by the Prison Services Yearbooks, as well as data from the Czech Statistical Office and the Integrated Portal of the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs for information specifically regarding the main macroeconomic indicators of the Czech Republic. The results of the various models run indicate no significant effect of released prisoners on unemployment rate....
