Concept of Authoritarian Regime of Juan Linz and its Application on Antanas Smetona Rule

This bachelor thesis analyses political development in interwar Lithuania, which declared independence in 1918. The years of independence ended in 1940 by Soviet occupation. The thesis is concern on period of rule of Antanas Smetona who become the Lithuanian president after military coup d'etat in 1926. The analytical part deals with the theory of authoritarian regimes by Juan Linz, who developed this theory in his book "Totalitarian and Authoritarian Regimes". The thesis explains the main statements of his draft, analyses empirical datas which are relevant to Smetona's regime and then provides a comparison. The aim is to find out to what extent the regime of Antanas Smetona is in accordance with Linz's definition of authoritarian regime.
Armed Anti-Soviet Resistance in Lithuania 1944-1953

This bachelor thesis discusses in great detail the anti-Soviet military resistance in Lithuania between years 1944 and 1953. It introduces the guerrilla movement, its structure, chronology, tactics, geographical location and development. It also defines, who were its members; the reasons that led them to the uneasy choice of life in the underground; their age, nationality, social structure, etc. On the same note, it also describes methods used by particular Soviet law-enforcement agencies in their fight against the "banditism" (that is, against the guerrillas) and in enforcing "Soviet law". It also covers a chapter on active resistance in the whole region, focusing on comparison with Latvian, Estonian and partly also Ukrainian guerrilla movements and their specifics. Guerrilla warfare and the fight of Lithuanian guerrillas (also called "forest brothers"- miško broliai) against sovietization of the country after the reinstatement of the soviet dominion in 1944 is significant and controversial topic of contemporary historiography. The "Ukraine-Lithuania-Belarus" approach and Polish Eastern Politics after 1989

This bachelor's thesis discusses the "Ukraine-Lithuania-Belarus approach" (ULB) and the way in which it influenced Poland and its Eastern policy during 1989-2005. The approach was formulated by the Polish exile in France during the Cold War. It promoted the independence of Polish's Eastern neighbors and good-neighbor policy in order to stabilize the region and impede the Soviet influence. This approach was revolutionary given the historical tensions that existed among Poland and the ULB nations. The purpose of this paper is to find out to which extent the approach was put into practice and what motivated its use. Therefore, this study uses the method of historical analysis to examine the area of independence, security, minorities and common history, find out how much the ULB approach was actually present, and the various factors that influenced it, which include Russia, NATO, EU, national interests, Polish romanticism, and different political tendencies of Ukraine, Lithuania and Belarus. Economic crisis 2008-2010 in Baltics

The main objective of the Bachelor's thesis is the description of causes, course and consequences of the economic crisis 2008-2010 in the Baltic countries. The biggest emphasis is placed on developments in the financial and real estate sector and the labour market. Attention is also focused on the vigorous solution of the crisis that is often given for exemplary action in the crisis period. The thesis also contains a brief description of the region's economic history and the development of the economic crisis 2008-2010 in the world. The main chapter focuses on the crisis development in the Baltics, including the basic causes of the economic downturn. The final chapters describe the current economic situation in the Baltics, bring a comparison with selected European countries and outline a short-term outlook for further development of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. The contribution of this thesis is mainly that it shows a possible effective solution of economic problems. Especially the PIIGS countries, which are still in crisis and urgently need to restore their competitiveness and confidence of the financial markets, should pay attention to the example of the Baltic countries that managed to start high growth of their economies relatively soon after the deep slump.
Mutual Reflexion of Baltic States in Their Social Life after Year 1991

The bachelor thesis deals with the mutual reflection of contemporary Baltic countries. Based on the characteristics of the region like chapters from the historical development of the space, in which the Baltis states nowexist, and defining for our topic some specific cultural facts of countries, we find common and different features of Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania and peoples, who inhabit it. Bachelor thesis on this scale similarities and differences indicates some of the mutual stereotypical ideas and automatic associations of Estonians, Latvians and Lithuanians to the states in which they live and certain perceptions about each other and the Baltic mutuality. The bachalor thesis also touches orientation of states to other regions, or differences in the perception of proximity to other regions and nations.
Comparison of Family Policies of Czech Republic and Lithuania from a Gender Perspective

This thesis deals with gender oriented approaches in comparative analysis of family policies of welfare states. And illustrate these approaches as a comparison of family policies of Czech Republic and Lithuania. It presents concept related to criticism of Esping-Andersen's typology of welfare states as a gender blind typology. The first concept is familization of Singrid Leitner. She builds the framework of four ideal types: optional familialism, explicit familialism, implicit familialism and defamilialism. In analytical part the family policies of compared states are classified as one of these types. Other concept presented is a typology of gender regime of Diane Sainsbury. She distinguishes three regimes: male breadwinner regime, separate gender roles regime and individual earner-carer regime. There is also analytical part, which follow this typology and assign states compared to one of the regime. The thesis is concluded with discussion considering the results of the analysis and forms of Czech and Lithuanian society.
A comparative study: Electoral systems of the Baltic states

The goal of this thesis was to compare the effects of the electoral systems of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania on the outcome of elections and on the representation of political parties in the parliament. Described was also the evolution of the electoral systems of each country since gaining independence. It was determined that the Estonian electoral system produces the most proportional outcomes. The threshold between overrepresentation and underrepresentation of the political parties in the parliament was determined. The estonian party system was declared the most stable. By calculating the value of the natural thresholds, it was not possible to determine in which country do the political parties have an easier access to their first mandate.

The bachelor thesis examines the business environment of the Lithuanian Republic in respect to the potential investor, who would consider investing his capital into the country. Firstly the historical background and the demographical development of the country are examined. Secondly the thesis includes the PEST analysis of the Lithuania. The four environments, which are the political, economic, social and technological are examined in order to give one a detailed overview of the Lithuanian market. Lastly the SWOT analysis is used to examine the performance of a Lithuanian company.
Possibilities of market penetration for Czech companies on Baltic market

The objective of my bachelor thesis is to analyse potential of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia as new markets for Czech companies. Firstly, I will focus on general characteristics of countries including geographical, demographical, political, cultural and historical facts. Furthermore, I will continue with thorough analysis of selected macroeconomic indicators to have solid foundation for principal part of my thesis, where I intend to evaluate current economic cooperation of Czech Republic with region and most importantly present opportunities for Czech companies to enter this market with example of one successful Czech company.
