Kroupa, Pavel ; Opatrný, Martin (advisor) ; Černík, Roman (referee)
The subject of my thesis is perception of crisis communication through social network. The aim of this work is to verify the connection and context between social network, interpretation and risk evaluation. The first theoretical part deals on the research of appropriate literature and defines key words like perception of information, communication, crisis communication, social medias and social networks. It also analyses the structure and communication process, types of communication, theoretical models of crisis communication, instruments of crisis communication and social networks themselves such as Twitter and Facebook. The theoretical part is the basis of the empirical part, which describes the realization of the research among college students. Stated hypotheses lead to the formulation of research questions and build the questionnaire. The questions in the questionnaire are built to verify that the high number of shared posts, sharing a particular user or a large number of controversial comments to that contribution may be related to the interpretation and evaluation of the crisis. It is emerging from the research that the high amount of sharing a post and the concrete person who shares this post has influence on the interpretation and evaluation of the risk. Benefit of this work is the fact that...

Crisis comunication of zoological gardens
Šťastný, Michal ; Dolanský, Pavel (advisor) ; Šoltys, Otakar (referee)
Zoological gardens play an important role in conservation and preservation of wildlife nowadays. Building a positive image and trust of the public is very important for them to be able to work on this mission. Providing the public with up-to-date and positive information about what goes on within the organisation helps keeping up or even increasing visitor numbers. Press staff of the zoos use a set of simple marketing tools to turn some of their animals into iconic celebrities. On the other hand, zoos have their fair share of crisis situations such as the loss or escape of animals, natural disasters, injuries to staff or visitors, loss of trust or increasing entrance fees. This thesis analyses a number of such important crises in Czech zoos using qualitative analysis methods and offers some solutions that might diminish the impact of similar situations in future.

Analysis of Crisis Communication in Retail Chains
Pralovszká, Sára ; Ivan, Michal (advisor) ; Marcelli, Miroslav (referee)
This diploma thesis focuses on an analysis of crisis communication in food retail chains, using pragmatic linguistic methods. In the theoretical part I deal with speech acts theory from the viewpoint of John L. Austin and Emile Benveniste, Grice's Cooperative Principles and the Theory of Argumentation. I use all these methods in analyzing press releases published by retail chains in the case of a negative food affair. I am therefore interested in the way those linguistic tools are used by the authors in the press releases in order to communicate most effectively in a time of crisis, so as to prevent the loss of either costumers or the good name of the company. I will also focus on the most frequent mistakes made by the authors of press releases. The aim of my thesis is to find out whether it is possible to find some repetitive mechanisms used in the communication of different crisis topics. The main hypothesis is that although there are different crisis situations which need to be communicated, communication methods used in individual press releases are similar and they often recur. Key words: pragmatics, speech acts, cooperative principles, argumentation, crisis communication, food affair, press release.
Crisis argumentation during the press conferencies of government by using grice's maxims
Březinová, Markéta ; Šoltys, Otakar (advisor) ; Kučera, Štěpán (referee)
Submitted bachelor thesis focuses on the crisis communication in politics and on Grice's maxims applied there. In its theoretical part the thesis analyses the terms crisis and crisis communication. It sets the criteria on which the recognition of crisis is based, as well as it offers theories on how one should create and use arguments in these particular situations. Besides that, the thesis also evaluates general argumentation skills used by politicians during unfavourable times and compare them with principles Paul Grice defined as the base for successful communication. The theoretical part hence furthermore describes Grice's maxims, as well as it monitors Czech politics in selected period and necessary context. Second part of the thesis uses semiotic analysis to examine press conference speeches of selected politicians during the government crisis in March and April 2012 and searches for Grice's maxims used there. It also notices the use of language and the character reflection in their speech. With all that, the thesis fills in the gap in Czech literature focused on effective crisis communication in politics.

Spin Doctoring - analysis of persuasive techniques of manipulation with public opinion
Vozková, Markéta ; Švantner, Martin (advisor) ; Kladný, Tomáš (referee)
The aim of this paper is to present a critical reflexive analysis of spin doctoring in the Euro-Atlantic area. We aim to determine whether a spin doctor use the knowledge of semiotics, media studies, public relations, political communication and rhetoric for the practice of crisis communications. This text puts this kind of manipulative communication into historical perspective and monitors its application in social communication of contemporary Western society. With the support of current thinking on this persuasive communication, we would like to explore various methods and techniques of spin doctoring. We try to identify and analyse various sign systems, specific channels and media that are used in the practice of spin doctoring. We attempt a comparison of these communication channels in relation to the effectiveness of the persuasion. We focus on the era of new media (last 20 years) and the consequences of these developmental processes, and effects on the agenda of media (problem of agenda setting). The subject of our interest is also the influence of increasing number of people who have access to World Wide Web. We study individuals' participation in the democratic process. We believe that the advent of new media caused a reconfiguration of participation in democracy, but we think, that new...
