Unofficial Public Art In Czech Republic
Turner, Vladimír ; Pospiszyl, Tomáš (advisor) ; Fabuš, Pavol (referee)
This essay investigates art in public space created outside of official structures. Environment of its creation, including authors' intentions, nature of individual techniques and its social and cultural impact and media image are described and assessed in this work. The essay opens with definition of the public space based upon socially critical theories in terms of which I, then, attempt to describe Czech contemporary society. Next, it gives a historical overview of artistic activities on the border of the law which aimed to influence the public at large. Chronologically, it highlights selected works by, for instance, Vladimír Boudník and action artists such as Milan Knížák until the end of 1980's. The paper's main focus, however, is contemporary Public art. Illegal public art is thereby defined including all its sub-categories. With reference to individual significant works of art I try to illustrate various attributes of today's engaged art. I investigate multiple attempts of Czech artists to promote their works as socially significant phenomena, i.e. to join art and life together. I am deeply intrigued with how art is perceived by large and open public. My main focus is art within urban environment, even though public space may be more healthy on its outside. I intentionally omit the platform which is currently the most liberal niche of free communication and artistic work, the internet. Field of interest of this paper may be defined within the boundaries of these terms: image of illegal street art in different public media, social critique, art outside galleries and official structures, social impact of art, engaged art, subversion, streetart and life in the city. In this work I try to find the answer to the question, whether Czech public space (if there is any) is used freely as a platform for independent art.

The Eurozone and small open economies from the perspective of the Optimum Currency Area Theory
Bodnár, Juraj ; Šíma, Ondřej (advisor) ; Pour, Jiří (referee)
The aim of this thesis is to evaluate the existing knowledge about the theory of optimum currency areas and assess the euro area and selected small open economies in terms of this theory. In addition to traditional forms of OCA theory has profiled endogeneity theory, which allows fulfillment of OCA criteria ex post. The opposite approach is formulated in the hypothesis of specialization by P. Krugman. In the thesis I found out that the Eurozone is not an optimal currency area according the fulfillment of criteria of the OCA theory. Another observation is that a small open economy has limited opportunities to conduct independent monetary policy, what makes its membership in the monetary union in the long term necessary. However, its membership has some drawbacks especially that the exchange rate fluctuates according the fundamentals of the big economies (members of monetary union). Furthermore, I have found out by comparing the macroeconomic indicators of individual countries, that the membership of small open economies in the euro area is appropriate, but it has some risks. In the thesis, I also found out that small countries (especially microstates) should specialized in export of services - tourism, financial and administrative services.

The Principles of Francisco Suarez's Political Power: Suarez's consent in the context of the theory of the social contract developing from 16th until 18th century
Koblížek, Jan ; Sousedík, Stanislav (advisor) ; Svoboda, David (referee) ; Altrichter, Michal (referee)
The Abstract The meaning of this dissertation thesis is to find out whether we can regard Francisco Suárez as a representative of the social-contracting theories developing in the period from 16th until 18th century. Suárez, who is more likely known for his metaphysical disputations, gives a really sophisticated formulation about the origin of the common society and the political power, where the key point is the word of the social consent. At the first time it seems that Suárez can be without difficulty considered as a modern period humanist like Thomas Hobbes, John Locke or lately Jean-Jacques Rousseau. As well as they, Suárez thinks that the independent human will has its unsubstitutable part in the origin of the political society. Nevertheless there is a large difference. While according to the mentioned humanists, the independent will is the only principle of the political power, Suárez thinks that this will is just the necessary condition meeting the human nature created by the God, that it is the true principle of the whole political power. Suarez's meaning of the social consent is then situated in the theological framework and is closely associated with the words of the nature and the transcendence. The result is that Suárez understands the state as a natural and moral organization and not as a...

Testing selected theoretical approaches concerning the building of a US radar base in the Czech Republic
Holý, Petr ; Karlas, Jan (advisor) ; Drulák, Petr (referee)
The aim of this work is to test the ability of three selected theoretical approaches to explain the response of the Czech Republic to the American offer to build the ABM radar device on the Czech soil. These theories are: neorealism, utilitarian liberalism and constructivism. Each of these approaches looks at the social reality from a different perspective which allows us to view the issue in its complexity and diversity. Each theory also uses a different set of independent variables to explain the behavior of the Czech government in this case (these variables are: autonomy and influence for neorealism; domestic interests for liberalism and international and domestic norms for constructivism). Thanks to this variety of variables we are enabled to critically evaluate which key factors played the crucial role in the Czech decision-making process in this particular issue and possibly also to point out some assumed regularities which might play an important role in forming of the Czech security policy as such. The main task of the first chapter is to provide some broader historical and political context of the case. Next three chapters are then dedicated to testing of the theories by comparing their deductively phrased hypothesis with the value of dependent variable, which for our work is represented...

China and USA in UN peacekeeping operations in 1989-2010
Evanová, Jitka ; Karlas, Jan (advisor) ; Bureš, Oldřich (referee) ; Fürst, Rudolf (referee)
China and USA in UN Peace Operations in 1989-2010 Mgr. Jitka Evanová Summary The thesis discusses the growing role of China and decreasing role of USA in UN peace operations since 1989 with the aim to find the reasons behind their behavior. First, two chosen theories of international relations - neorealism and its modified version and English school - are described, independent variables determined and consequent hypotheses formulated. Second, the increasing Chinese and decreasing American activities in UN peace operations is shown by describing their gradually changing behavior in three areas: voting in the Security Council, personnel contributions to peacekeeping operations and financial contributions to the UN peacekeeping budget. Third, the hypotheses are tested using the congruence method that examines the explanatory power of the theories. If a reality is consistent with the hypotheses' prediction, there is a possiblity of a causal relationship between independent variable and the dependent one. I conclude that modified neorealim has the highest explanatory power as its predictions are consistent with the outcome in both cases. English school can to a certain degree explain Chinese behavior but is weak in the American case. Neorealist predictions are weak in both cases. In the end, I suggest possible...

The Fast of the Eyes (Contemporary Sacred Architecture in Theory: Churches of the Holy Spirit in Ostrava and Šumná)
Brázda, Mikuláš ; Biegel, Richard (advisor) ; Veselý, Dalibor (referee)
The Fast of the Eyes (Abstract) Analysis of the conditions of possibility of the dialogue that I lead with the building itself reveals the latter as an icon/event, and thus also provides one privileged method for unlocking its meaning - architectural θεωρία. Only in such a theory (which - at its purest - is performed by the elaborate interweaving of independent narratives), I argue, it is possible to see that which only makes architecture sacred: permeation of architecture and liturgy, building and community. The concluding answer (made possible by the account given) is - if the argument is correct - provided by the building itself.

Defective Democracies in Latin America
Lacinová, Radka ; Kučera, Rudolf (advisor) ; Krausz Hladká, Malvína (referee)
Bakalářská práce Defektní demokracie v Latinské Americe Abstract The bachelor thesis "Defective democracies in Latin America" is focused on the theory concerning issue of defective democracies presented by Wolfgang Merkel. In the theoretical part there are introduced the common grounds of defective democracies, causes of their emergence and three main types of defective democracies which were defined by Merkel. These three types are namely exclusive, domain and illiberal democracies that can be classified according to an evaluation of six criteria defined by Merkel. In addition Wolfgang Merkel and Aurel Croissant considered the prospects and they outlined three distinct scenarios of the foreseeable future, namely the regressive scenario, the stability scenario and the progression scenario. In following sections there is analysed the specific case of Latin American country, Chile. The main aim of this thesis is to assess the statement that a development of Chile towards the defective democracy was predetermined by historical assumptions. Therefore, in the second section there is described the Chilean history from the declaration of independence to the present. Consequently, the case of Chile in 1990s is analysed by the application of Merkel's criteria and the result is a classification of Chile as an domain...

The influence of gender-homogeneous environment for labor relations
Adornová, Veronika ; Surynek, Alois (advisor) ; Horká, Andrea (referee)
The subject of my thesis is to analyze the impact of gender-homogeneous teams, both female and male, on the formation of labor relations and working environment in general. In the theoretical section, I focus on three main themes: Men and women in society, Influence of gender on the organization and Gender and the labor market. The research is based on the results of my two surveys, one was conducted in predominantly female work team and the second in a predominantly male work team. In my thesis, I discovered that the reality versus theory differ in some areas, especially in a positive sense. Slowly disappears trend when women returning from maternity leave have been disadvantaged by this fact. My thesis also refuted the assumption that men are more preferred as a superiors, than women. Women in managerial positions are able stand up and play as good as men. My thesis also did not confirmed that women are in fulfilling of work assignments less independent. Employees representing the minority in homogeneous work team in terms of gender, are not exposed to negative influences, as described in the theoretical part of my thesis.
