Measurement of amplitude and phase of ultrashort optical pulses by using nonlinear processes in optical fibres
Vraný, Boleslav ; Kaňka, Jiří (advisor) ; Karásek, Miroslav (referee) ; Boháč, Leoš (referee)
I confirm that I worked out this doctoral thesis independently and that I quoted all the literature used. Prohlašuji, že jsem tuto dizertační práci vypracoval samostatně a že jsem uvedl veš- kerou použitou literaturu. V Praze dne 21. 6. 2010 Abstract The thesis deals with the Frequency-Resolved Optical Gating (FROG) method of mea- suring ultrashort optical pulses. As a nonlinear process involved in the method we used cross-phase modulation in a microstructured optical fiber. The FROG device made of fi- ber pigtailed components fitted well the needs of our fiber optical laboratory. The output of the measurement differs significantly from FROG methods that use other nonlinear processes like second harmonic generation. For our FROG, the standard algorithms for reconstruction of the complex envelope from measured spectrogram failed. We therefore used a more robust genetic algorithm (GA) for the reconstruction. GA has several pa- rameters that affect its runs and we explored the influence of these parameters on the success of reconstruction of a number of test pulses and found the optimal set of these parameters. In this work, we present a general discussion of the FROG method and the standard reconstruction algorithms, the experimental setup we used, a discussion of the genetic algorithm, the technical details of our...

Blažková, Lucie ; Plchová, Božena (advisor) ; Žid, Josef (referee)
This diploma thesis highlights the issue of the interconnection between the cohesion policy implemented by the European Union and the national regional policy of the Czech Republic and underlines to which extent such coordination influences Czech entities and how they can profit out of it. The thesis focuses on the territorial cohesion and especially on the Operational Programme of Cross-border co-operation between the Czech Republic and the Free State of Saxony. In this thesis you will find an analysis of the needs and requirements for further growth of the studied region, an analysis of projects realized within the examined Programme and consequent appraisal whether the Programme fulfills the essential necessities for further growth of the eligible areas or whether there is potential for some changes to be made for the future programming period of 2014-2020 (which is now being discussed in the institutions of the European Union) in order to achieve higher efficiency and usefulness of the financial resources coming from the budget of the European union and the national budget of the Czech Republic.

Iconographic Programme of the St. Carolus Borromeus Church in Vienna
Pučalík, Marek ; Royt, Jan (advisor) ; Preiss, Pavel (referee)
Iconographic programme of cathedral St. Carolus Boromaeus in Vienna The Diploma Thesis deals with the iconographic programme of cathedral St. Carolus Boromaeus in Vienna (known as Karlskirche). The author begins with the outline of the curriculum vitae of Cardinal Charles, the Archbishop of Milan, and the life of the Emperor Charles VI. It was Charles VI of Hapsburg (anglicized Habsburg) who had the monumental votive cathedral built in the capital of the monarchy as thanksgiving for the end of plague. The corner stone was laid in 1713 and in 1737 only the construction was built according to the plans Johann Bernhard Fischer of Erlach. In 1733 brought to the church were the Knights of the Cross with Red Star, Czech Order from Prague. Their task there was to conduct spiritual administration for all time and found the hospital which they did immediately in 1739. The task of the writer of the Diploma Thesis was to elaborate the history and, mainly, the iconographic programme of the exterior and, first of all, of the interior of the House of God. He outlined there also the potential cooperation of the Knights' Fathers on the final programme of decoration. The work set as its task the extension of knowledge of that significant Baroque jewel of European architecture in the direction of revealing new facts found in...

Crossing the boundaries. Selected themes from the work of Fulvio Tomizza
Kosová, Karolína ; Flemrová, Alice (referee) ; Pelán, Jiří (advisor)
There are "outer" and "inner" boundaries. These are constantly tempted and crossed by people. Boundaries exist on maps as borderlines protected by heavy barriers or as small stonewalls that separate neighbors' fields in the countryside. There are boundaries between the sea and the mainland, the village and the city, between two nations. Fulvio Tomizza, whose work is analyzed in this study, lived with these boundaries. He has been coming to terms with the outer boundaries his whole life in his work Incomprehensible Boundaries. He wrote of the boarder line between the "free world of Italy", where he had in fact never reached his inner freedom and between Istria that since 1954 belonged to the "unfree part of the world". He was well familiar with the boundaries between Italian and Slavic population from the Istria area, since the worlds of these two ethnic groups were clashing inside him. He had therefore dedicated his written work to undo these boundaries that caused separation and rather conjugated them and created space for meeting of cultures and everyday life influences. And so the inner boundaries, he has mediated to us in his writings became "points of connection" between the past and present, reality and dream, life and death. He himself presents a great example for "crossing of boundaries"; his...

Border Security of the Schengen Area from the Perspective of the Public Goods Theory
Hokovský, Radko ; Plechanovová, Běla (advisor) ; Karlas, Jan (referee) ; Druláková, Radka (referee)
Radko Hokovský Border Security of the Schengen Area from the Perspective of the Public Goods Theory Abstract In the context of increasing illegal immigration to the European Union, doubts arise whether Schengen Area is fit to face this challenge, or whether it needs to be reformed. The aim of this dissertation thesis is to clarify questions surrounding functionality of the Border Security System of the Schengen Area by applying the theory of public goods. The main inquiry of the thesis is, whether it is necessary to further strengthen the EU competences in order to improve the functioning of the Schengen Border Security System (SBSS). First, a model of an ideal- type border security system is constructed in order to identify core functions of border security in relation to protection from illegal immigration: (a) deterrence of illegal immigrants, (b) prevention of illegal border crossings, (c) interdiction of illegal immigrants, (d) apprehension of illegal immigrants, (e) apprehension of illegal residents, and (f) removal of illegal population. Second, theory of public goods is introduced as an analytical framework, which allows to identify possible solutions to collective action problems associated with production of public goods such as security in transnational contexts comparable to the EU. Third, the...

The effects of dexrazoxane on ischemia-reperfusion injury in rat heart
Boudíková, Adéla ; Neckář, Jan (advisor) ; Hloušková, Patricie (referee)
Dexrazoxane (DEX) is clinically used to reduce cardiotoxic efects of anthracycline cytostatics. Its cardioprotective efect is caused by chelatation of free iron and defends myocard against dangerous hydroxyl radicals. This research finds out how dexrazoxane works in ischemic-reperfusion damages of rat's heart. Each rat was infused by DEX (50, 150, 450 mg/kg) or by control solution. Isolated perfused rat's hearts were exposed to local ischemia for 30 minutes than 10 minutes of reperfusion for studing ischemic arrhythmias followed by 15 minutes of local ischemia and 10 minutes of reperfusion to examine reperfusion arrhythmias. For evaluation of EKG (ventricular arrhythmias) was used software CAR and Lambeth convention. Global ischemias (15 min.) were induced in rat's hearts (DEX 150 mg/kg) and left ventricules were used for HPLC to determinate concentration of glutathion. In vivo experiments rats were infused by DEX 50, 150 mg/kg or control solution and were exposed for 20 minutes to local ischemia and for 3 hours to reperfusion. Infarct size was evaluated based on the cross section of heart (GIMP, Ellipse). Maximum total number of ischemic arrhytmias decreased by DEX 150 mg/kg (64% comparing to controls). Reperfusion score was reduced by DEX 150 to 48% and percents of ventricular fibrilation was...

Success and failure in selected novels of Theodore Dreiser
Novotný, Josef ; Ženíšek, Jakub (referee) ; Grmela, Josef (advisor)
Diplomová práce Success and Failure in Selected Novels of Theodore Dreiser analyzuje vybrané romány Theodora Dreisera s přihlédnutím k motivu vzestupu a pádu. Dále se tato práce věnuje otázce jak se Dreiserova životní zkušenost odráží v jeho díle. Srovnávány jsou romány Sister Carrie, Jennie Gerhardt, The "Genius", An American Tragedy, and The Trilogy of Desire (The Financier, The Titan, The Stoic) s autobiografiemi Dawn a Newspaper Days. Práce odhaluje skutečné předlohy románových postav, zkoumá jejich vzestupy a pády, a zkoumá Dreiserův pohled na svět, zejména jeho sociální postoje. Dochází k závěru, že Dreiser skrze své postavy, vykreslené jako Nietzschovsky sobecká a atavistická stvoření, zpochybňoval tradiční americkou literární koncepci, tradiční morálku i principy demokracie.

"The only Father's word". The relationship of the Father and the Son in the documents of saint John of the Cross
Černá, Renata ; Kohut, Pavel Vojtěch (advisor) ; Ryšková, Mireia (referee)
English Annotation (The work abstract) 5 key words: The Father, The Son, The Holy Spirit, The Holy Trinity, Saint John of the Cross "The Only Father's Word" The Relationship of the Father and the Son in documents of Saint John of the Cross The author presented the life of the saint in the first part of the work with the intention to put some key events of his life to the connection with the testimony of his texts. In the next part she analyzed those texts in the documents which are devoted to the relationship of the Father and the Son. Here we mainly talk about the twenty-second chapter of the second book, the Ascent of Mount Carmel, in which " The Son is the only Father's word". The father is active only in one way - begetting the Son; the begetting itself is Love, which is The Holy Spirit. The Son loves the Father and through this love he makes the Father love, he isn't passive. In the Romances, Saint John shows how the relationship of the Father and the Son in the Spirit is realized in the creation and incarnation. The poem the Source deepens our understanding of Son and Holy Spirit's proceeding from the Father and his acting in the Eucharist. In the third and the last part of the work, she made the synthesis of the knowledge gotten by the analysis of the given texts and she came to a conclusion that the...

The importance of volunteer service in the protection of inhabitants, focusing on the Czech Red Cross
PEŘAN, David
The topic of this bachelor thesis is ?The importance of volunteer service in the protection of inhabitants, focusing on the Czech Red Cross? and how it deals with volunteering and the volunteer service, which is provided in the Czech Republic, especially in the capital city Prague. The theoretical part of this study is about the history of the volunteer service in Europe, Czech Republic and Prague. The basic legislation about the volunteer service, specifically Act. No. 198/2002 Coll. on volunteer service and on amendments to certain Acts (Volunteer Service Act), is analyzed in detail. The next document, which was used in the theoretical part, is ?The statues of Czech Red Cross organization? (CRC), which adjust the position of volunteers inside this organization. The Law on volunteer service, describes volunteer service, as a service, which is provided by person without employment relationship or relationship based on staff or membership. One of the basic principles of the Red Cross (RC) organization is volunteer service, which means, that everyone, who cooperates with the RC organization provides a volunteer service, but in the Czech Republic individuals can provide services based on employment, staff or membership. Here is the conflict between national law and the principles of RC. This thesis works on the concept, that everyone, who cooperates with the Czech Red Cross is a volunteer, including individuals, who are staff, members or employees. The statues of the Czech Red Cross organization present three groups that can provide services: employees, members and volunteers. Employees have contracts of employment and this contract delegates them into leadership positions, for example in a crisis staff at the strategic and operational level. Members have rights and responsibilities and their activity is used in a emergency crews and especially at tactical level in humanitarian units. Volunteers are used during an extraordinary event to support humanitarian units and other activities, which are mentioned in Regional Concept of Emergency Preparedness. Basic training is parallel for all groups and after this training they start special trainig according to performed activities. The research question is: Does the the ?Concept of emergency preparedness of the Czech Red Cross up to the 2015? improve situation of CRC's volunteers in the field of protecting inhabitants? The response was a qualitative analysis of collected data about the volunteer service and comparative analysis of basic legislative documents of crisis management, protection of ihabitants and the Czech Red Cross organization. Objects of comparison are legislative documents. Comparison is to find out the answers to the criteria analysis from the fifteen selected legislative documents and two concepts. The analysis containes the answers to five questions. In the analysis were used synchronous comparison of monitored issues in the current legislation of the Czech Republic. Thanks to the results of the comparative analysis was prepared the Plan of CRC to help the capital city of Prague according to the applicable Methodology of the Plan of CRC to help a region. The result of the comparative analysis is the fact that the seven documents deals with volunteer services directly and one indirectly. Five documents deals with the funding of volunteer services directly and one indirectly. The real output is the Plan of CRC to help the capital city of Prague. I think that these disputed issues will not be solved soon. The question is, how will the new CRC documents (Plan of help and Concept of emergency preparedness) be applied.
