Landscape as a fixator of human memory - an example of the Hradec Králové battlefield from 1866
Kessler, Vojtěch ; Šrámek, J.
The relationship between man and the landscape in the 19th century is usually viewed through the prism of fundamental contemporary phenomena, i. e. primarily the industrial revolution, the construction and densening of the railway network and urbanization. The authors focus on a different level, namely the approach to the question how the landscape has changed due to the events of the war and the development of contemporary memory culture and historicism. An example of this is the scene of the largest battle of the 19th century in the Czech lands, the battlefield of the Prussian-Austrian war near Hradec Králové (Sadová). Using this example, they demonstrate the transformation of the former war field into a specific reverential and sepulchral locality and subsequently a monument area, whose existence survived not only the changes of the 20th century, but above all became an influential fixation of the 1866 war not only in the immediate region. However, according to their judgment, the landscape itself, which has not been fundamentally changed since the 19th century due to the heritage care, is an important factor in this reception.

Frdlíková, Markéta ; Šmied, Miroslav (advisor) ; Kuthan, Jiří (referee)
Contribution to the origin and temporary state of the former monastery in Pivoň Abstract This Thesis is contributing to the issue of establishment of former Pivon Monastery, belonging to the Order of st. Augustin between years 1266-1787. Its' origin is a bit older, probably connected with Wilhelmite order, but there still remains a possibility of another, unknown founder. To this topic exist many relevant articles, the same as architectonical surveys but without any strict solution. The oldest visible architectonic parts survived till our days in presbytery of the monastic Church of Annunciation. In the time of writing this Thesis is the area of former monastery put up for auction and its' state is unfavourible, due to the sequences of events in 20th century and unfinished renovation from previous decade. That's why is this Thesis also focused on the poor state of properties of the Monastery area and church and is trying to figure out at least theoretical solution to current situation from the view of monument care.

Měřínský, Michal ; Šindlar, Jiljí (referee) ; Hrabec, Josef (advisor)
The content of the thesis is a study of the new use of brownfield, which was created by the termination of the UP Závody furniture company in Bučovice. The subject of the study is the urban design of a new residential area, with additional, required and related functions. The design of the site, including the newly subsumed buildings, is only created at the urban level. In the form of an architectural study, one selected (reference) residential block of an urban complex is then solved. An important aspect is the reaction to the nearby presence of the renaissance castle by observing the preconditions for the monument care.

Old - new urban spa
Černeyová, Natália ; Kotásek, Michal (referee) ; Zemánková, Helena (advisor)
The object of the town's spa is currently abandoned without use, in a pitiful state. As a monument registered in the central list, it is a testimony to the modern architecture of the 20th century and is among the most famous works of the prominent architect Bohuslav Fuchs. It was built in 1930 as the winning design in the competition for new city baths. After its opening, the inhabitants of Zábrdovice and others enjoyed a pleasant and clean environment for relaxation and balneology, at a time when the backyard households were rather rarity and the prize of richer layers. For Zábrdovice as the marginal industrial part of Brno, full of robot dwellings, the Fuchs Bath facility was an attractive opportunity for rest and recreation. The operation consists of two parts - summer baths with outdoor swimming pools and facilities in the eastern wing of the building and winter baths with saunas and small pools, which in their disposition unit offered bath-room areas accessible from the central corridor.  For today's society, the importance of such a city-spa operation has disappeared and the inhabitants are rather relaxed in extensive spa complexes, saunas, and so on.  The main objective of the proposal is to restore the whole area and to create an attractive environment that will correspond to the current running of the city and the needs of its inhabitants, while maintaining the function of the summer spa, which still serves to revitalize it.  The new use of city spas primarily builds on the original purpose of the building and also respects the needs of the city and Zábrdovice. At the present time, there is a considerable lack of opportunities for sports, recreation and cultural activities.  The main objective of the proposal is to restore the whole area and to create an attractive environment that will correspond to the current running of the city and the needs of its inhabitants, while maintaining the function of the summer spa, which still serves to revitalize it.  The new use of the city spa primarily involves the original purpose of the building and also respects the needs of the town and Zábrdovice. At the present time, there is a considerable lack of opportunities for sports, recreation and cultural activities.   The most prominent point of the project is the design of a covered swimming pool, which corresponds to the current needs of the city and at the same time creates space for the operation of the winter baths, which is thus moved from the main building and no longer bothers the building. The new building of the swimming pool composes the construction of the complex, smoothly and not disturbing it. Its construction system is based on existing structural axes, as well as the division of facades and interior dispositions. The mass and shape of the new building respects the original functionalist architecture, but it also adds to the fresh modern touch. The aim is to aesthetically make a stay in the area aesthetically pleasing. Likewise, the material solution strives to create a fine contrast between old and new on the one hand and material harmony of the entire architectural composition on the other.

Hubertová, Kateřina ; Tyslová, Irena (advisor) ; Kadeřábková, Jaroslava (referee)
The diploma thesis deals with the possibilities of utilization of cultural heritage in tourism of the Czech Republic and in Italy. The thesis describes heritage care system and culture funding in both countries, but it deals also with tourism management and promotion in both countries. The case of Italy is used as an example for comparison with the Czech system. The thesis is divided into four parts. First of them deals with theoretical definition and closer description of culture and tourism, as well as cultural tourism. Second part describes the situation in the Czech Republic. Third chapter is crucial because it describes Italian practice in heritage care, arts funding, tourism and its promotion and organization. This chapter includes also practical analysis of several Italian monuments and ways they are managed, ranking from the most important monuments to local ones, from technical heritage to church monuments. Fourth chapter compares the situation in both countries according to findings of previous chapters. At the end of the comparison there are several examples, positive but also negative, where Czech Republic can learn from Italian experience.
Folk architecture and its significance in regional development (with an example of the Mladá Boleslav region)
Šimáček, Gustav ; Heřmanová, Eva (advisor) ; Pek, Tomáš (referee)
The topic of the diploma thesis refers to a research carried out by the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice, under the leadership of Mr. Jiří Vaníček. The goal of this thesis is to determine and evaluate the effects of monument protection of rural mansions on the life and development of villages, to analyze potential problems and to search for opportunities to ensure further improvements. In its theoretical part, the thesis maps the legislation governing monument protection in the Czech Republic, with a focus on the monument protection of works of folk architecture. Its practical part is based on a sociological survey carried out in the Mladá Boleslav region, namely in villages that are subject to flat monument protection (Mužský Rural Monument Reserve (RMR), Víska RMR, Březinka Rural Monument Zone (RMZ), Skalsko RMZ, Loukov RMZ and Kluky RMZ), in the form of a questionnaire survey and focus-group discussions. The respondents were owners of properties in the protected villages, their mayors and public officials responsible for monument care. The results obtained from the questionnaires are compared with the results obtained from a survey conducted by the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice. The results of focus-group discussions were then used for a detailed analysis of the attitudes of all groups involved and for the definition of key areas decisive for mutual relationships between the owners of protected properties, local governments and public administration. A principal issue of the entire thesis is to determine to what extent the lives of people residing in the above-mentioned villages are influenced by the fact that their village has become a rural monument reserve or zone.
