Extraction of parameters for the research of music performance
Laborová, Anna ; Miklánek, Štěpán (referee) ; Ištvánek, Matěj (advisor)
Different music performances of the same piece may significantly differ from each other. Not only the composer and the score defines the listener’s music experience, but the music performance itself is an integral part of this experience. Four parameter classes can be used to describe a performance objectively: tempo and timing, loudness (dynamics), timbre, and pitch. Each of the individual parameters or their combination can generate a unique characteristic performance. The extraction of such objective parameters is one of the difficulties in the field of Music Performance Analysis and Music Information Retrieval. The submitted work summarizes knowledge and methods from both of the fields. The system is applied to extract data from 31 string quartet performances of 2. movement Lento of String Quartet no. 12 F major (1893) by czech romantic composer Antonín Dvořák (1841–1904).
Musical instruments recognition from audio records using Music information retrieval techniques
Kárník, Radoslav ; Mucha, Ján (referee) ; Kiska, Tomáš (advisor)
This paper discusses design and implementation of classifying system for recognition of musical instruments from audio records with use of Musical Information Retrieval techniques. In the first part, paper describes parameters used for instrument classification, calculation of said parameters from records and reduction of feature vector. Next part is devoted to tuning and implementation of various classifiers with focus on neural networks. These classifiers ar further tested on records from IRMAS dataset wchich contain 11 musical instruments playing solo or with other instruments. Results of classifiers tested on different parameters and different numbers of instruments are discussed in the last part.
Music mood and emotion recognition using Music information retrieval techniques
Smělý, Pavel ; Mucha, Ján (referee) ; Kiska, Tomáš (advisor)
This work focuses on scientific area called Music Information Retrieval, more precisely it’s subdivision focusing on the recognition of emotions in music called Music Emotion Recognition. The beginning of the work deals with general overview and definition of MER, categorization of individual methods and offers a comprehensive view of this discipline. The thesis also concentrates on the selection and description of suitable parameters for the recognition of emotions, using tools openSMILE and MIRtoolbox. A freely available DEAM database was used to obtain the set of music recordings and their subjective emotional annotations. The practical part deals with the design of a static dimensional regression evaluation system for numerical prediction of musical emotions in music recordings, more precisely their position in the AV emotional space. The thesis publishes and comments on the results obtained by individual analysis of the significance of individual parameters and for the overall analysis of the prediction of the proposed model.

Caputo, Alexandria ; Bureš, Oldřich (advisor) ; Záhora, Jakub (referee)
Bibliographic Note CAPUTO, Alexandria. The Sultanate of Oman: Resistant to Extremism?. 104 p. Master Thesis. Charles University, Faculty of Social Sciences, Institute of Political Science. Supervisor : Prof. Oldřich Bureš Abstract This thesis analyses the Sultanate resistance to violent extremism as a Middle Eastern nation that has consistently scored a "0" on the Global Terrorism Index (GTI), an ongoing indexing of global terrorism from 2003 onwards. The Sultanate was markedly stable for those years unaccounted by the GTI. This case study examines institutional and legal frameworks established by the Sultanate and their value on countering radicalization and extremism processes that might lead to an act of terrorism. This research is supported by literature on radicalization and countering violent extremism (CVE) models, with great focus on a five- pronged, comprehensive working paper that approaches major problems across the Middle East. Radicalization and extremism notably fester in such problematic approaches, and the objective is to parallel these problems with the strategies, approaches, and norms of the Sultanate of Oman to see if this paper can come to a conclusion about the ability of nations and their populations to resist radical pathways and extremist ideologies. With religion at the crux of...

Comparison of Hans Kung and his work Global Ethics with the Civil Religion
Knotek, Daniel ; Hošek, Pavel (advisor) ; Hajko, Dalimír (referee)
This Diploma Thesis deals with two universalistic conceptions, represented by the Swiss Catholic Theologist Hans Küng and his work Global Ethics, and the Civil Religion. In the first part of my text, I bring in the personality of Hans Küng, his work, ideas and the book Global Ethics which received great acclaim on international forum, Churches and society. Küng draws up three basic theses: No world peace without peace among religions. No peace among religions without dialogue between the religions. No dialogue between the religions without accurate knowledge of one another. These theses express the need for a dialogue, being able to formulate viable visions of the future. In the second part of my work, I introduce a less known notion of the Civil Religion with its transformations and development throughout the history. It is a concept exceeding the border of sociology, political science, philosophy and theology, examining the formative processes of the society and its religious reference speech. It penetrates the academic discourse especially in the period between the 1960s and 1980s, as represented e.g. by the American sociologist Robert Bellah. In the third part of my text, I compare both the universalistic conceptions and try to find out where they intersect and in which respect each of them has...
On Belief in Power
Smetana, Pavel ; Hogenová, Anna (advisor) ; Blažková, Miloslava (referee)
This thesis researches the phenomenon of (mostly human) power from the point of view, from which human accepts it and believes in it. At first, it deals with the phenomenon of power in the work of Machiavelli (The Ruler) and it points out the possible danger of its absolutisation. For insight into thinking of Machiavelli, it deals with the analysis of Ľubomír Belás and also with the viewpoint of Anna Hogenová, Jan Patočka, Ernst Jünger, Václav Bělohradský and other authors. The thesis also shows the Comenius' criticism of Machiavelli. There comes a sort of revelation of the principle of power which disregards other values and the thesis warns against it. In the next step, the thesis researches the conception of Václav Klaus (Blue, not a Green Planet) and with the help of Jan Keller's statements and some scientifical opinions in ecological issues (Ravi Kumar Kooparapu) the thesis finds it closed in a certain way of economical thinking, guestioning-suppressive and thus somewhat power-based. Further, this thesis researches the form of strong distortion of the picture of the world which appears in the work of ideologist Alexander Dugin (The Great War of Continents). It shows dangerous power - demagogic features in his work and compares it with the similarities in the orations of Rudolf Goebbels. The...
M. S. Gorbachev's concept of Common European Home
Stejskalová, Jana ; Svoboda, Karel (advisor) ; Litera, Bohuslav (referee)
The bachelor study "M. S. Gorbachev's concept of Common European Home" highlights the pro-European oriented idea of Soviet Foreign Policy, which became popular in the middle 80's. The concept was a peaceful vision and a new Soviet openness towards the policy of the United States and the West in an era of the Cold War. This period was characterized by mutual distrust of two ideologically different blocks and by the real threat of nuclear conflict. There were many politicians who engaged with the European Policy in the past. The expansion of European ideas has a considerable historical background. And the expression of the Common European Home was already part of the external policy of Leonid I. Brezhnev. The Soviet concept, however, was first actively promoted by Mikhail S. Gorbachev, who is also attributed with its authorship. This bachelor study presents the origin, development and disappearance of this Soviet Policy. The work analyses the content of the idea in detail and also discusses its territorial legacy; including accompanying events and the attitude of Western countries. In addition to other key aspects, Gorbachev's Common European Home is associated with the fall of the Iron Curtain and the disintegration of the Soviet Union.
