Elementary school as a tool for integration of Vietnamese minority in Týn nad Vltavou
ŤUPA, Jan
In my thesis, I am going to focus on children, who came to the Czech Republic from Vietnam. Children attending the Elementary school Hlinecká in Týn nad Vltavou is my subject of study. Most of them were born here and they are called the second generation of Vietnamese. As an introduction I will be devoted to the history of migration from Vietnam to the Czech Republic. I also take a look into the time when the first Vietnamese families appeared in Týn nad Vltavou. Later on I am going to present the main conclusions of famous researchers who occupy themselves with Vietnamese minority specifically in the branch of Vietnamese children in Elementary schools. One of the most important parts of the successful integration is the view of the mass media and I will try to sum it up. In my analytical part I will be doing a short research in form of dialogues in which I will be striving for a closer look to the value background of Vietnamese minority families in Týn nad Vltavou. I attempt to find out if the school as an institution can be more helpful in the whole integration. I will be interested in the function of education as a value and I am going to characterize the school environment in which Vietnamese minority children are being educated within the meaning of the readiness of the school, teachers, contacts with parents and acceptance of the classmates from the view of both teachers and pupils themselves. In the end I confront my results with the similar European research.

Svobodová, Pavla ; Jüptner, Petr (advisor) ; Just, Petr (referee)
The diploma paper represents a contribution to the research of direct democracy in the Czech Republic, specifically it deals with the most used form of direct citizen participation in governance, local referendum. The paper is mainly empirical - it shows an experience of ten European countries with local referendum as well as the legislative framework and the definition of this instrument in the Czech Republic. The centre point of the whole thesis lies in the real practice and the experience of Czech municipalities with local direct democracy. The data used in this paper come up from research which aimed to collect information on all local referendums in the Czech Republic since 1990. Although this aim has not been fully accomplished, the data allow to study the practice of Czech local referendums. Local referendums are divided into several groups (categories of territorial changes, the environment, issues of internal governance of the municipality and others) within which are further analysed. The aim of the paper is to verify the hypothesis that seeks a relationship among the size of the municipality, subject of voting, quorum and voter turnout. The paper also focuses on the factors that have got fundamental impact on the final result of referendum.

Aspects of the Slavic verb "to have" - in grammar. Its auxiliation and the grammaticalization of the European analytic perfect type structures "have" + PPP - Bulgarian, Macedonian, and a corpus based study of Czech
Marvanová, Mira ; Čermák, František (advisor) ; Damborský, Jiří (referee) ; Petkevič, Jiří (referee)
The verb "to have" is one of significant elements of the ELA (European Linguistic Area). It belongs to the first stage of europeisms, yet it is not part of the IE heritage and its origin is different in the majority of European languages. Another phenomenon of later date which can be considered a europeism of structural type is the emergence and the development of the analytical perfect habere-tenses or constructions of this type in most of the European so-called haberelanguages, including Slavie. We obviously deal here with an expanding process, the original epicenter of which was Vulgar Latin - with some participation of Greek - in the conditions of centuries-long mutual bilingualism. The subsequent process of diffusion and induction developed several euro-zones out which Slavic represents the two last ones. The process of the europeanization, i.e. its spread ("euro-diffusion") from this epicenter to the European Linguistic Area (ELA), took place firstly in Romance, later in Germanic reaching eventually Slavie through two channels at the threshold of the 20th century. ln the South, this process became one ofthe components ofthe Balkan linguistic integration. It proved to be the most intense in Macedonian as well as in some South Bulgarian dialects which were in direct contact with non-Slavic languages of...

Is Waste to Energy an alternative?
Hanigovský, Štefan ; Slavík, Jan (advisor) ; Kotoulová, Zdeňka (referee)
The world waste hierarchy is changing under the pressure of growing population, strict standards of living and environmental standards, as well as new technological experiences. Strengthening of environmental standards in Europe leads to restraining the most used and cheapest waste treatment method - landfilling. The limitation of landfilling will force the countries to search for alternative treatments. This diploma thesis is supposed to give certain conclusion whether the incineration of waste with gaining energy (waste-to-energy) can be the right way how to deal with waste in the future. Current market position of waste-to-energy is being examined in selected European countries, focusing on whole environmental, economic and social aspects of using this technology. Incineration as commercially proven state-of-the-art technology is still having problems entering the new markets even if the technology with its sophisticated approach shows a great environmental service. The results of the examinations show the potential for Czech Republic, as well as other countries where WTE is not utilized yet.

Latitudinal effect on cold tolerance of a firebug Pyrrhocoris apterus
JANDA, Václav
This thesis deals with the relationship between the place of origin and the extend of cold hardiness of fire bug Pyrrhocoris apterus (Linnaeus, 1758). Thirteen populations from twelve European localities were used in the experiment. Linear regressions were used to relate the values of SCP (10th percentile, first quartile, mean and median) of the individual populations to minimum and average winter temperatures of given localities. The relationship between air temperatures and SCP values were significant provided that the data of all populations were used. After the removal of three southern non-diapausing populations this relationship lost its significance.
