Hozman, Václav ; Peterka, Josef (advisor) ; Kubíček, Tomáš (referee)
This bachelor's thesis is focused on incipit of selected Czech novels of the twentieth century. This thesis deals with narrative work. The aim of the work is to analyze specific novel's beginnings, try to interpret them, to say what they signalize and to imply correlation of the incipit with the rest of the novel. The first chapter is dealing with the novel's beginnings in general. The author wants to refer to theoretical sources, which will become the base for the analysis of the chosen novel's incipit. The most important part is to define the term incipit as the entrance to the text world. That is the borderline of fiction and reality. The task of the incipit is to draw the reader into the fiction world of a novel. The incipit stops to be the incipit in the certain place of the book, the place where the reader is completely drown into the text world and where there is a point of no return. Each of the following chapters is focusing on the incipit of each of the book individually: Temno, Marketa Lazarova, Osudy dobreho vojaka Svejka za svetove valky, Hordubal, Zbabelci, Pribeh inzenyra lidskych dusi, Nesnesitelna lehkost byti and Obsluhoval jsem anglickeho krale. It was very important to keep the distance from knowing the whole book and to focus only on the beginning of the book from the reader's...
Cronicle as a literature genre
Pašková, Jitka ; Stejskalová, Anna (advisor) ; Hrabáková, Jaroslava (referee)
The subject of this thesis consists in following the development of the novelistic chronicle genre, which emerges on the common point of a chronicle and a novel at the end of the 19th century. The ground on which the genre is characterised and the survey of its development conducted is the "new chronicle" U nás by Alois Jirásek, "the chronicle of a Moravian village" Rok na vsi by Mrštík brothers and generation chronicle Rozkvět by František Xaver Svoboda. These three novelistic chronicles are connected by the time of their genesis and have several common features, which are associated mainly with their genre determination (the domination of time and place over the characters and the story, the retardation of the time dynamics, being linked to a place and the accent on the poetic of the concrete). However, their authors drew inspiration from different regions (the northeast of Bohemia, the central Bohemia, the borderland of Moravian Slovakia and Haná) and they depicted distinct social backgrounds. The chronicles differ in the time when their story is played out as well as in the way the sources are adapted. Each of them is a realistic work; however, from the thematic point of view and from the point of view of the taken place, each one represents a different type of realism (the historical realism,...
Anxiety and estrangement in Juan Carlos Onetti's works
Krupková, Tereza ; Housková, Anna (advisor) ; Vydrová, Hedvika (referee)
Anxiety and estrangement in Juan Carlos Onetti's works Key words: Onetti, The Well, novel, Eladio Linacero, estrangement, anxiety, loneliness, dreams, Tizón This work focuses on the literary conception of characters in Onetti's works. Specifically, it converges on anxiety, loneliness and estrangement, which are the central components of the author's prose. Onetti's first-fruit, The Well, serves as a starting point. This novel revealed new possible ways of the novel-writing and influenced many other authors. It carries the key issues of Onetti's future work. The novel is sketchy; the images often do not follow each other and they are directed by hidden associations. There appears a new character: urban anti-hero, who escapes from the hostile reality to the fantasy life. The present work features the protagonist of The Well with other Onetti's characters. The part dedicated to the style focuses on the relation between form and content. Onetti's books are about misunderstanding which is reflected in the structure and language. In the final chapter of this work is confronted The Well with The Beauty of the World by Héctor Tizón. Different and in some components similar processes allow to recognize and define Onetti's style and uniqueness better.
