Heřmanský, Martin ; Bittnerová, Dana (advisor) ; Kandert, Josef (referee) ; Levínská, Markéta (referee)
The aim of my dissertation is to understand body piercing, as a form of body modification, among contemporary high-school youth by understanding its meanings which are ascribed to it by its bearers. My research is based on a premise that youth (sub)culture is a distinct system of meanings, values and norms, which is at the same time in constant interaction with mainstream culture, with which are these meanings, values and norms constantly negotiated. In addition to researching the process and the product of this practice, by understanding body piercing as a "lived experience", I focus on how is body piercing used and generally lived in their everyday lives. Based on a qualitative analysis of mass media representations of body piercing and semi-structured interviews with body piercing bearers from ranks of Prague high-school and vocational school youth I will try to show how these meanings are established in intersection of discourse of youth, discourse of dominant society and agency of body piercing bearers.

Vliv jezdce na délku kroku u koně
VRABČEKOVÁ, Monika
The mechanics of movement is one of the performance indicators of horses. It is influenced by internal and external factors. This thesis analyses how the rider's proficiency effects the length of steps of a walking and trotting horse. This experiment involves five horses of different breeds from ZF JU Ceske Budejovice and four riders of different proficiency levels (beginner, intermediate, advanced and a professional). These parameters were tested using video recordings: walking speed, the length of the step, the elevation height of the front left leg and the back left leg, the angle of the nose to the ground and the angle of the cheeks when walking and trotting. Measurements proved that the rider's proficiency and ability has statistically very high effect on the mechanics of the horse's movement, especially in relation to the elevation height of the legs, the length of the steps and speed. As the rider's proficiency level increases the walking speed and the elevation height of the legs also increase and the steps become longer. The nose angle got close to 90° with an increased level of rider's proficiency and the level of the angle of the cheeks decreased. The biggest differences were found between a beginner and a professional on a trotting horse. The differences were smaller when the horse was walking rather than trotting, however they still showed the same trend. The results found show that the rider has a significant effect on the mechanics of movement. A horse with a rider of higher proficiency can achieve better results and is able to demonstrate its abilities better. This can be used in races, exhibitions or horse sales.

However, despite this fact, the level of quality of life is currently one of the most discussed topic. Monitoring the quality of life by using a variety of indicators are engaged in several international organizations, one of them is the Development Programme of the United Nations. This organization annually publishes the Human Development Index, which divides the world´s countries into four groups according to their level of development: low, medium, high and very high development. The aim of this thesis is to analyze the quality of life in 125 countries by using cluster analysis, accurately the Ward's method. Quality of life in this thesis is evaluated based on 19 demographic and economic indicators, which include life expectancy, literacy rate, access to drinking water and infant mortality rate. The cluster analysis divided the country into individual clusters by their similarities. Six clusters were created by this analysis, which had been compared with the results of Human Development Index. The clusters very well reflect the division, which is commonly used in the characterization of developing and developed countries. Each of the six clusters can be very well described and characterized in terms of quality of life. It is also possible qualify those clusters as poorest developing, low developed, moderately developed, medium development, high and very high development countries. Based on the results it can be stated that this analysis is consistent with other indicators of quality of life and the resulting clusters are identical with the division of countries which is commonly used.
