Civic Education - Man in Society - Didactic Analysis of the Thematic Area and Its Realization in Education

The aim of this master's thesis was to create educational material for teachers and students for the subject Citizenship education for 6th and 7th grades in primary schools based on didactic analysis and analysis of the target educational domain "Person in Society". The choice of the topic was influenced by the urgent need to create educational material which would correspond to the current principles in upbringing and education as they are given by the Framework Educational Program for primary education in terms of the curricular reform of the current Czech education, and in this way to help teachers with their pedagogic experience. Two thematic pieces were chosen to create the educational material - Our School, Relations between People. The educational material was fashioned into the form of a methodical guidebook and workbooks which were tested at chosen primary schools.64 The testing of the educational material allowed for flexible response to the student's and teacher's suggestions and meaningful revision of incurred issues based on theoretical resources and didactic analysis of the real school experience. Effective Partnership: Partner projects of nonprofit organizations

This thesis deals with the principles of partnership between Czech non-profit organizations. This topic draws on the research of twelve high-impact American non-profit organizations which was carried out by H. McLeod Grant and L.R. Crutchfield in 2007. On the example of the civic association's Koalice nevládek Pardubicka (KONEP) work, the essay tries to apply partial outcomes of this research on the Czech environment, to find common aspects and different elements of the partnership principle, and to introduce a succesful way of its implementation. Through the means of analysis and description of concrete projects and activities of Koalice nevládek Pardubicka organization, this essay presents the benefit of the partnership principle for non-profit organizations and community development itself, and seeks to show its importance in the life of civil society.

Medical sociology - medicalization of society

The bachelor thesis deals with the theme of medical sociology, especially with the concept of medicalization of society. The first part focuses on the historical development of the medical sociology and describes three main theoretical bases: the functionalist approach, political economy paradigm and social constructivism perspective. Further it describes the theory of medicalization, which appeared in the medical sociology in the late 1960s. Medicalization is defined as the process when originally nonmedical problems are classified and treated as medical ones. This phenomenom is specified in the section dealing with the medicalization of women's health.

Malaiyaka Tamil Youth in Sri Lanka: Values, Aspirations, and the Forming of a New Elite

Radek Novotný Malaiyaka Tamil Youth in Sri Lanka: Values, Aspirations, and the Forming of a New Elite Malaiyaka Tamils are a minority and lowest-status group within the society of Sri Lanka. A majority of them were brought by the British colonialists from India to work on their coffee, later tea plantations in the course of the 19th and 20th century. They were deprived of their basic civil rights in 1940's. However, the Malaiyaka Tamils have been undergoing a process of considerable social-economic changes over the last three decades, which was launched especially by the attainment of citizenship, growth of educational opportunities, and growth of civic and political awareness. The young Malaiyaka Tamils have an opportunity to become the first relatively well-educated generation and new elite of their ethnic group. This work attempts to analyse the prospects of the Malaiyaka Tamils youth's upward social mobility process by investigating their aspirations, values, and attitudes. Volunteering as part of civil society

The thesis deals with the impact of European Voluntary Service (EVS) programme on civic competences of its participants and their active participation within civil society, both Czech and European. The text is structured into three chapters. The first chapter deals with a definition of the concept of civil society and its historical development, historical development and present situation of Czech civil society and definition of European civil society. The second chapter first explains the phenomenon of volunteering in general and then continues with explaining of functioning and principles of EVS. The third chapter is a result of qualitative analysis of semi-structured interviews with six former participants of EVS. At first, the personal story of each participant is written. According to the stories, the cumulative analysis and conclusions of the thesis are formulated.

Režimy zdanění nestátních nevýdělečných organizací v ČR a na Slovensku

Valentová, Z. Taxation regimes of non-profit organizations in the Czech Republic and the Slovakia. Bachelor thesis. Brno: Mendel University, 2015. This bachelor thesis deals with taxation of non-profit organizations in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. The thesis is focused particularly on two types of similar legal forms of these organizations. They are societies in the Czech Republic and civic associations in the Slovakia. The goal is to determine in which country is the effect of non-profit organizations more favourable in the field of income tax. To achieve this goal it is used an analysis of tax regimes of non-profit organizations in these followed up countries. Comparison of both regimes is based on the analysis and the results are confirmed by a model example. At the end are discussed possible changes to the taxation of non-profit organizations in the Czech Republic.

The monotheistic religions in the textbooks of civics

The aim of my work is to show the position of monotheistic religions, namely Christianity, Judaism and Islam, in civics textbooks and in the eyes of today's teachers and pupils in the primary schools. Today´s Czech society does not attach more importance to religion, even though they constitute a significant part of our and the world´s history. The work is divided into two parts, theoretical and practical. In the theoretical section are described the basic information about textbooks and further analysis of the civics textbooks that contain the topic of religion, since the 90s of the last century to the present. There is also a history outline and present of Judaism, Christianity and Islam. The main task, in the practical part, is to review and evaluate the attitudes of today's teachers and students for teaching religion in civic education in primary school. The research was conducted using questionnaires, which are suitable for obtaining information related to this issue. To compare the research, there was also added 8 years gymnasium, concretely the lower level together with two primary schools.

Community activities (tradition and status quo) in small localities

The subject of this thesis is the sociocultural role of associations in small localities, which are villages and small towns. Through two selected interest activities typical for small localities and organized on the basis of associations / clubs, soccer clubs and volunteer fire, are explored traditions in selected municipalities and scope of current community activities. Importance is attached to social relations acting both within societies and among them. The theoretical basis is for them the concept of Ferdinand Tonnies Gemeinschaft und Gesellschaft, which indicating two types of social relations based on a distinction between two kinds of human will. Qualitative research focused on the perception of traditions, current status, mission and needs for the future with regard to the development activities carried out by three generations of representatives of these associations shows generational differences in perceptions of community activities. Through systematic registration of current needs with regard to the future development of community activities outlines this thesis opportunities for mutual cooperation, leading not only benefit the organizations themselves, but also for the location in which these associations are.

Conditions for establishment and functioning of social services in Příbram

The aim of this dissertation was to monitor the opportunities of development of the current or newly-established organisations providing, replacing or supplementing social services in the town of Příbram. The dissertation was searching the answer to the question how the local authorities might contribute to this development. The author explained in the theoretical part of the dissertation what social services are and how they are established. Mainly on the basis of the Czech literature she introduced different approaches to the definition of social services. She focused on social services given by the Social Services Act No. 108/2006 with the intention to record and describe their actual work. She described the two most frequent forms of organisations used for providing social services: civic association and welfare society. She elaborated in greater detail their advantages and disadvantages according to their providing of social services. The author was also interested in the conditions which every provider of social services has to fulfill and which influence the work of his organisation. A contribution to understanding the socializing people´s democracy in Czechoslovakia in 1945-48

This chapter is a discussion of President Edvard Beneš´s conception of a "socializing democracy", which he formulated at the beginning of the Second World War and whose aim was to surmount the shortcomings of democracy and also to solve the relations between Communists and non Communists. Beneš considered previous form of democracy to be outdated, and therefore came up with the new form. After the war, Czechoslovak society followed on from this concept with the concept of the so called people´s democracy.
