The role of history in nation-centred social scientists texts from the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century: Masaryk, Unamuno, Dmowski, Gökalp
Scholz, Milan ; Řezník, Miloš (referee) ; Klusáková, Luďa (advisor)
The thesis deals with the comparative analysis of the role of history in four nation - centred works from the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century. The complex of analyzed works includes three texts of T. G. Masaryk concerning the so called 'Czech question' - Česká otázka [Czech Question], Naše nynější krize [Our Contemporary Crisis], Jan Hus [Jan Hus], Unamuno's book En torno al casticismo, Dmowski's Myśli nowoczesnego Polaka [Thoughts of Modern Pole] and Gökalp's Türkçülüün esaslar [The Foundations of Turkism]. The structural and thematic similarity was the main criterion for the choice of these texts. All texts deal with the problem of 'national existence', combine the features of works in social sciences with the ideological element and use history and historical examples for the construction of national programme. The thesis looks for the similarities and differences in the use of history and in the role of history in constructing national programmes in the analysed texts, and tries to define their typology. Furthermore the treatise examines the relation between the degree of modernization and the political position of respective society (dominant, non - dominant) on one hand and the way of using historical examples on the other. The thesis is divided in five chapters. The first...

Marešová, Julie ; Sládková, Miroslava (referee) ; Čeňková, Ivana (advisor)
Julie Marešová, Semantic and Pragmatic Aspects of the Prosodic Component of the Message in Simultaneous Interpreting, Institute of Translation Studies, Faculty of Arts and Philosophy, Charles University, Prague, 2009 The thesis focuses on the prosodic component of the message in SI from the point of view of the speech listener, the interpreter and the interpretation listener. First we described the general function of prosody and its role in SI. We mentioned Gile's Effort model which is closely related to the prosody of source speech. We also considered the interpretation quality assessment from the point of view of the final client. The empirical part is focused on the way the prosodic character of the source speech influences the interpreter's work and whether the same influence can be seen in the client's assessment of the interpretation. Using computer analysis (computer programme PRAAT) and retrospective questionnaires we have found out that the interpreters are completely aware of the source speech prosody. If the prosody is unnatural or inadequate it raises the demands on concentration and understanding and makes interpretation more difficult. We did not confirm the hypothesis that source speech prosody is reflected during SI in the same way. There was a large diversity in the assessments by the...

Art group 12/15 Better Late than Never
Jungová, Markéta ; Potůčková, Alena (referee) ; Lahoda, Vojtěch (advisor)
The free art group called "12/15 Pozdě, ale přece" was founded on the 3th of June 1987 in Václav Bláha's studio. However, the beginnings of collective activities of its members are to be found already in the first half of the 70's when these artists started to exhibit their art together. During those beginnings and through all the time of normalization, too, they found their place in exhibition rooms of the alternative (unofficial) culture. Hence, they had no chance to present themselves adequately enough. Besides their close friendship, it was one of the reasons of establishing an art group. The members of 12/15 were not unified by any collective art program. It was a group of individuals freely creating and thinking. Its founding members were: Václav Bláha, Vladimír Novák, Petr Pavlík, Michael Rittstein, Ivan Kafka, Ivan Ouhel, Jiří Beránek, Kurt Gebauer, Jaroslav Dvořák and Tomáš Švéda. Since their second exhibition (1988) Jiří Načeradský become a new member, and since the third one (1990) Jiří Sopko. Gradually this circle has expanded by joining a cultural worker Jiří Halík, and a group manager Josef Vomáčka. During the years 1988-1996 they organized 7 collective exhibitions. To each of them some propagation materials were created: posters, flags, invitation cards and so on; an author of their graphical...

Čechová, Lucie ; Royt, Jan (referee) ; Hlaváčková, Jana Hana (advisor)
This work is an investigation of Czech Gothic murals in castle chapels in Bohemia. The key for including of a mural to the catalogue was the founding date between early middle-ages up to the year 1526; end of the hegemony of the Jagellon dynasty amongst Bohemian Kingdom. The core of the work is a comprehensive catalogue of such murals. Included are 12 localities where these murals can be found, dating through 300 years of the middle-ages. Not included in this catalogue are the three well-documented sacral spaces in Karlštejn castle, although they also fit the time period in question. It must be acknowledged that the Karlštejn chapel murals are key elements in understanding this style and era, due to their quality and influential nature. This essay sought to isolate and explore any specific typology in this class of artwork. However, it must be stated that no such unique common character exists. The murals are more a reflection of the requirements and tastes of the individual patrons; they also express the fashion of their particular eras. There are also discrepancies in quality, which vary from century to century. In the 14th century, the quality of the investigated murals cannot be compared to that of paintings in the court of the King. However, by the late 15th and 16th centuries, the quality of murals...

In consequent this inner political structure were also the chances ofthe emperor encroach diverged. The Saxonian duchy was a conglomerate of major number of aristocratic domains. The holders of these domains (bishops, earls ..... etc.) did not subordinate to fiats of the duke, they did not grant his authority. His power and support from emperor Frederick I. Barbarossa gave him a factual dominance over the other princes of Saxony however it did not let him to beared rule over them. His effort to enlarge his own principality threatened other princes's political positions and that is why they were in constant opposition
