Residential Complex in Brno - Komín
Sýkorová, Alexandra ; Zíka, Vratislav (referee) ; Makovský, Zdeněk (advisor)
New housing complex in Brno is trying to continue in character of this part of the city Brno- Komin. This character is more like village them city. This location is closely to the nature, school and kindergarden and the city center, that is perfect for family housing and this project is interested in it. Area has a small scale of modest row houses that have oriented themselves to the garden and street. This creates two common rooms with a different character. On the surrounding buildings reacts the same principle which is in housing, that is oriented to the gardens themselves. The concept respects the privacy and the need to isolate themselves, but also gives rise to an awareness, observation and interaction among residents. The shape of the terrain gives the possibility of non-traditional arrangement of houses in levels. This is characteristic feature of the entire residential complex.

Completion of the Construction of Slovanské náměstí Elementary School
Fajkusová, Kateřina ; Kunc, Ing Petr (referee) ; Vojtová, Lea (advisor) ; Švecová, Táňa (advisor)
The project deals with an optimization of functions and an extension of the building of ZŠ Slovanské náměstí primary school. The school is in the Slovanské náměstí square (No. 1218) in Brno – Královo pole and it is a preserved historic building. The preserved historic facades which face all the three streets where the building stands are an example of geometric modern art, which is influenced by cubism in this case. Its designer is Antonín Blažek, who cooperated with Václav Prokop and Václav Hynek Mach. Functions of rooms in the building were optimized along with linking of their scheme. The project also aimed to facilitate access for people with physical disabilities which was realized by a construction of a lift and by an adaptation of sanitary facilities. Lavatories were reorganized in order to have men's and ladies' lavatories in both wings of the building. The small and insufficient capacities of the kitchen and of the canteen were increased by an extension of the building in the area of the school yard. The extension created a connection between the two wings of the building and enabled a passage between them. Since the passages in the ground floor and in the first floor connect different points, the disposition of each floor is different. Therefore, the designed construction system is a monolithic reinforced concrete skeleton, it is composed of circular columns and of a locally supported slab. It is founded on a monolithic concrete slab because of the disposition of the construction elements. Both roofs are flat and the roof of the ground level can be walked on in order to make up for the lost room in the yard. Some of the walls in the ground floor are glass so the yard does not look as a confined space. The façade is specially designed for this building, it is meant to replace the piece of art and it is inspired by a modern abstract painting.

Student Apartment Building
Vodička, Jan ; Drobníček, Ladislav (referee) ; Menšíková, Naděžda (advisor) ; Šuhajda, Karel (advisor)
Four-storey student apartment building fills a corner vacant lot in a compact city block. It’s placed on a busy street. Situating a café and a shop in the ground floor and a main entrance facing a tram stop is beneficial both for attracting passing people and for an easy access of residents. The volume composition is based on an analysis of the surroundings. It keeps the local height-level of the highest apartment buildings. There is a school-building right next door which has been kept in spatial dominance. The volume of the building is created with two intersecting blocks, each with different height – this creates a psychological tension in the corner position. The façades composition is based on two levels of scale; one is derived from a typical old apartment buildings’ window size and the second has its origin in the neighbouring school built in functionalistic style. There is a glass suspended façade preventing noise from outside to come in. It has a great impact on the building’s architecture. The building exterior is monochromatic with an exception of a few red-painted anchors holding the glass façade. The student apartment building’s design emphasizes a social contact between the residents. These can meet in a backyard, in a common room in ground floor, in a multilevel lounge with access to a roof terrace or simply on an exterior gallery connecting their flats.

Area for Breeding Horses
Floriánová, Jitka ; Klimek, Karel (referee) ; Myslín, Jiří (advisor) ; Skála, Jiří (advisor)
The aim of this project was to design a new hippocentre in the locality of Lipůvka – Jihomoravský kraj. The building site is situated in a sloping terrain, on a meadow out of the built-up area of the village. The principle of this draft lies in a division of various functions to the separated objects, connected by inner and outer ways. The object is functionally divided into five parts – hall of an inner riding-school (partially imbedded into the terrain), with added objects of keeper’s/owner’s housing, restaurant and a club room with a kitchen and other service rooms, and accomodation part for guests. Higher in the terrain we can find horse stables with integrated service rooms- such as feed storage, changing rooms for the users, and showers for the horses. One of the most important requirements of this project was also to create a functional complex though the significant cant in the elevation across the length of the given area. Thus, the stable buildings have inside two different floor levels to compensate it. The hall of a riding-school is lighted by skylights in its roof, which also provide indirect lighting to the rooms in the western part of the three added blocks. In this bachelor thesis, only the buildings for accomodation and dwelling of people are being further designed and documented.

Area building openings is minimized on the north facade and vice versa is open to south and west facades, which benefits the passive energy gain. These construction holes are filled with high quality aluminum windows and doors with Triple glazing. On the frame is attached a separate steel construction porches and balcony. This concept allows a perfect insulation shell fired by a separate steel structures unheated porch and balcony, and hence a considerable degree of energy efficiency.

Kindergarten classes with children of heterogeneous age versus homogenous age
VELÍŠKOVÁ, Božena
My dissertation examines the positive and negative sides of mixed-age and single-age classes in nursery schools. In the theoretical part I introduce opinions on these organisational methods from expert literature and educational programmes, and I look into what characterises both forms. The practical part is based on observation, the testing of children and conversations with teachers. It examines how appropriate the two given organisational methods are from the perspective of the level of preparation for the start of primary school and in consideration of the development both of mutual relationships between children and of their social skills.

Kvasnička, Jiří ; Klusáková, Luďa (advisor) ; Kubiš, Karel (referee)
This thesis intends to capture the image of Japan in Czech society, which was formed in the second half of 19th century. Japan, a country previously almost unknown for European people, had transformed itself from a faraway, mysterious Far Eastem country into a world power during fifty years, which naturally resulted in change of its image in Europe. Reconstruction of historical image in certain society is dependent on sources, which had the greatest influence on view of the world of people of that time. In this thesis, those sources are divided into two categories, "image-creating" and "image-forming". The first one is historical school textbooks of geography, which had the most significant impact on students' way of creating image of the world in their mind. In the second category, there are newspapers, magazines, caricatures and encyclopedias, which helped those students form images in their adult life.
