Transformation of Golem in Popular Culture

Peter Janecek, Ph.D. Praha, 2015-08-16 The aim of the study is to outline the Golem legend, through the work of Alois Jirasek: Old Czech Legends (1894) a film by Martin Fric: The Emperor's Baker and Baker's Emperor (1951), which enables got Golem today's visually similar. Subsequent demonstration on how much above two sources affect people's perceptions on the topic. The aim of this work is also to show the gradual disappearance of the original legends of the 16th century and approach the area where the phenomenon Golem applied later: literature, film, tourism and the transformation of the 19th-21st centuries.
Paranormal romance: an attempt to define the subgenre in the context of young adult literature

This diploma thesis thematically follows up one of subgenres of young adult popular literature - paranormal romance. Its main aim is to create a comprehensive definition of this subgenre on the basis of interpretation of representative sagas - Twilight by Stephenie Meyer (Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse, Breaking Dawn), Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick (Hush, Hush, Crescendo, Silence, Finale), Nightshade by Andrea R. Cremer (Nightshade, Wolfsbane, Bloodrose, Snakeroot), Wings by Aprilynne Pike (Wings, Spells, Illusions, Destined) and Anna Dressed in Blood by Kendare Blake (Anna Dressed in Blood, Girl of Nightmares). The thesis was divided into eight chapters. In the first chapter we have outlined the historical development of paranormal romance, in the second part we focused on its genre characteristic. In the third and fourth chapters we tried to create a prototype of heroine and hero of this subgenre. The fifth part is about the steady plot schemes in paranormal romances. In the sixth chapter we have tried to determine a model form of relationship main pair of lovers in the analyzed subgenre. Typology of characters in novels to continue published in women's magazines

The aim of this work is the analysis of a typology of characters in the serial novel, which was published in women's magazines in the interwar period. For this thesis were used methodology of quantitative content analysis and qualitative analysis of selected five novels to continue. The work was focused on the period 1931 - 1939. Obtained data were found identical types and features the characters used in contemporary novels to continue. They were found the common aspects of serial novels that formed the primary source material of this thesis. The research was obtained the basic data for working with literary figures of romantic fiction. In this work was prepared model the main male and female character appearing in the novels to continue. In this work was constructed the model of serial novel. Part of the thesis has brought an analysis of novels and their characters have been converted into a movie. This work confirmed the importance of the continuation novels, as a key department of women's periodicals in the interwar period. The contribution of this work is to analyze the most frequently used characters in the novels to continue. Reflection of Chinese Writing in Czech Non-Academic Literature

In this work, we focused on a representative sample of the book documents written in Czech popular literature on Chinese characters. We focused on the books published since the early 20th century to the present. Then we analyzed this sample and focused on common themes. We found that the most common topic is the subject of incomprehensibility of Chinese characters. We have shown the view of unprofessional writers on Chinese characters using examples and citations. The analysis was then compared with the scientific knowledge of Chinese characters. We found that awareness of authors of Czech popular literature on Chinese script is not very high and this leads to frequent recurrence of widespread misconceptions.

The characteristics of the popular literature and its differentiation from belles-lettres are shown in the introductory part of the thesis. The next is a presentation of the main features that attract readers and make this literature so popular. The paratext, a secondary component of the book (title, author, edition, the appearance of the front page ...), the technique of the narration and the characters could be considered as those features. In order to demonstrate these features of popular literature, one representative has been chosen, namely a crime fiction novel The Mystery of the Yellow Room by Gaston Leroux. Non-Chinese world through Chinese Eyes: Thematic and Motivic Analysis of the Short-story Collection Sahala de gushi by Woman Writer San Mao

This thesis presents short-story collection Stories of Sahara (Sahala de gushi) by taiwanese women writer San Mao. The first part of the thesis introduces modern Taiwanese literature in the half second of twentieth century. The second part of the thesis presents San Mao as a author of autobiographical prose and as a popular storyteller. It is for her Stories of the Sahara, that San Mao is best known, which records her personal experience of San Mao in the Sahara desert. The main part of the thesis is focused of motivic analysis of Stories of Sahara. The results of analysis allow a deeper presentation of writer's perception of differences worlds and culture. Fictional Worlds of Fanfiction

This bachelor thesis introduces basic knowledge about the so-called phenomenon of fanfiction, i.e. a complex of narrative works of literature written by fans. It presents the most significant details and issues of this phenomenon and introduces its place among other works of literature. An explanation of how fanfiction uses a fictional world of a canonical work and a comparison of fanficion and transcript follows after. The thesis discusses fictional entities and the positions of an author, a narrator, and a reader. A summary of the most common terms used in fanfiction completes this thesis.
