Bad King Wenceslas? Deposition of the "Idle King" in the Context of Political and Legal Thought of the Late Middle Ages

This master's thesis focuses on the deposition of the king Wenceslas (1361-1419) from the throne of the Holy Roman Empire. The dethronement act was realised in August 1400 by four Rhenish electors (Count Palatine and archbishops of Mainz, Cologne and Trier) after years- long preparations. The first chapter briefly questions the possibility of king's deposition in medieval political thought. The second chapter describes long political fights in the Holy Roman Empire before 1400 and highlights the most important events which finally led to the king's deposition, such as the fight for the controll over the archbishopric of Mainz. The third chapter analyses the legal dimension of the dethronement act and puts forward possible interpretation of its role in the constitutional history of the Holy Roman Empire. The elector's activity can be understood as a part of long-term growth of political power of the electoral college, as it was codified in the Golden Bull of Charles IV.

Liberal political thought in the works of Karel Havlíček Borovský

This bachelor thesis focuses on analysis of political thought in the works of Karel Havlíček Borovský - the founder of political journalism in Bohemia. It tries to prove that there's good reason to deal with Havlíček's personality as relevant part of European liberal thought in the 19th century. The thesis is divided into three chapters. The first one describes history of liberal thought till the end of 19th century. The second part characterizes Havlíček's life and puts emphasis on his journalistic career. The third and also the main chapter analyses representative elements of Havlíček's liberal philosophy. The author is convinced that Havlíček can be regarded as one of few thinkers who stand at the beginning of the way to social liberalism.

Alternative political thought in Czechoslovakia between 1969 and 1977: acteurs, social networks, ideologies

This bachelor thesis deals with political thought of Czechoslovakian opposition between the years 1969 and 1977. Through the analysis of oppositional documents it shows its intellectual and social context, its conceptions and political aims. The first part of this thesis describes institutional development of opposition and its relationship to the state power at the begining of the period of so called normalisation. Second part analyses oppositional political programmes. It focuses on differences between oppositional groups and their conceptions of political, social and economical life. It also tries to reveal social and intellectual context of these programmes. Last part deals with topics common to all oppositional groups. Particular attention is paid to the problem of oppositional relationship to socialism and development of legitimacy of the opposition.

The Reflexion of the Roman Republic in the Roman and in modern political thought

The main objective of the thesis is to map how Roman and modern political thought reflected the era of Roman Republic. Particular authors, who devoted certain part of their work to Roman Republic, are chosen as representatives of the various historical eras. This thesis does the research into their work to find how specifically they mentioned, comment on or were inspired by Roman Republic. All these findings are presented in the context of particular thinker's complete work. Research begins with two authors living in republican times, namely Polybius and Cicero, and continues to the times of imperial Rome examining the 4th Century Eutropius. The part describing modern political philosophy chronologically lists Florentine Machiavelli, baron de Montesquieu, American Federalists and socialist thinkers Marx and Engels. The thesis then moves to comparison of all stated authors. Ten different topics are chosen to illustrate the common ground and differences of reflections among the examined authors. Such comparison provides required data for the secondary objective of the thesis - to explain which aspects of Roman Republic were the most significant for political philosophy.

John Adams and Thomas Jefferson: Two Perceptions of the Character of the USA

Abstract Bachelor thesis "John Adams a Thomas Jefferson: Two Perceptions of the Character of the USA" deals with two American presidents who stood by the foundation of United States of the America. In terms of time and topic definition, the thesis is devoted to the Founding Era of the USA. The goal of this work was to compare political persons of the second and the third American president. Working method was base on the comparison both persons according to the three criteria - political thoughts on the form and the character of the government, political performance during their presidency and the personal characteristics of both presidents. In the thesis are used as the primary sources so the secondary ones. This bachelor thesis is divided into four parts. Firs chapter deals with the political biographies of both statesmen and their relationship as well. Second and third chapter analyze the Adams' and Jefferson's texts in which they expressed their political ideas about the character of the government in early USA. Last part of the work is devoted to the comparison of their political conceptions and also to the comparison of their political acts during their presidency. Analysis of the impact of high schools on the political thinking of students

This thesis analyzes the impact of high schools on the political thinking of students. For the analysis are used theoretical concepts of assumptions of indoctrination of educational system. Furthermore empirical indicators, which can draw attention to the indoctrination of the educational system. Also there is an experiment which was created for the analysis and is taking place at 22 high schools in three regions of the Czech Republic. Results of the analysis indicate that the problem of indoctrination in the education system is very serious, however, difficult to prove. The analysis failed to confirm the effect of high schools on the political thinking of students, but managed to make a picture of the danger of indoctrination in the education system, about its potential and options.
