The Media Influence on Transformation of Democracy
Půlpánová, Barbora ; Pehe, Jiří (advisor) ; Slačálek, Ondřej (referee)
Mass media has always played the key role in democratic process. They are not only the indicator of its right functioning, but also the iniciator. From historical point of view is obvious, that technological progress and changes in the way of informing people were related to the political area. But with the increasing role of media, they changed their position from pure mediators of informations to the main actors of social and political life. The ‚old' media, such as newspapers, radio and television, are therefore partly responsible for commercialization of the public sphere and also for its depolitization. With contribution of the globalization effect on today's world, which causes besides other things the weakening of the nation state, there are only a little of the key democratic aspects left. Some find the solution in the ‚new' media represented by the Internet and social media, which are more interactive so they could get the citizens back to the game. And right in the increase of civic engagement see the theorists the potencial for creating a new democratic order based on high-level participation. KEY WORDS Mass media, Democracy, Public Sphere, Civic Engagement, Internet, Social media, Participative Democracy, Deliberative Democracy

Domestic violence as a social problem in České Budějovice district
ŠÍMOVÁ, Ivana
Violence at home, a.k.a. home violence, is a spiraling cycle of brutality committed in private between closely related persons. Such violence can by physical, psychological, sexual, economic or social, with the roles of the attacker and the victim clearly defined and never changing. Anyone can be exposed to home violence, irrespective of her or his social position, education, job, sex, age, religion, or the type of partnership that people live in. Advanced societies have developed a tendency to tackle the issue, and the awareness of the problem has improved. In our country this favorable development is driven primarily by the newly enacted regulations and the keener interest stirred up in the public. The thesis aimed to investigate the general public awareness of home violence within the District of České Budějovice. As followed from the survey, the public living in the District is well aware of the issue. The results showed that as much as 69% of respondents knew about home violence, while the remaining 31% were ignorant of the problem. Hypothesis: Females are better informed about home violence than males - confirmed by comparison between what the women and the men knew about the issue. The difference encountered, however, was just minor. Hypothesis: People living in the District of České Budějovice are not knowledgeable about changes newly passed in Act 135/200 to solve the problem of violence at home - not confirmed. The majority of respondents heard of the Act and were able to specify at least the essential changes it enacted. The change the respondents mentioned most often was the 10 day period of flat-eviction order. It comes as a matter of interest that males were better aware of the Act and could better quote the changes it introduced. Hypothesis: The public accepts as true that home violence is confined to just problem-ridden families - not confirmed. Eighty seven percent of females and 81% of males were convinced that home violence was not limited to only such families. Merely 13% of females and 19% of males believed the home violence was a matter of the problem-ridden families. The survey results showed that the public living in the District of České Budějovice had dropped this myth, i.e. they had not seen the hypothesis as truthful. The thesis can serve as a source of information for the lay public, as a piece of instruction material for the students of the University of South Bohemia, or it could also be given to the Intervention Center to be distributed among the victims of home violence.

Trousil, Pavel ; Pullmann, Michal (referee) ; Rákosník, Jakub (advisor)
The thesis entitled " Alcoholism in Czechoslovakia - Social Reflection on this feature in the 20th Century" deals with the topic of alcohol consumption in the cultural environment of Czechoslovakia which the author tries to describe in historical perspective on a general level with a special emphasis on description and comparison of public opinion, important social norms (also those implicated by legislation) as well as social structures. The temporal horizon concerned is related approximately with the period of existence of Czechoslovakia. Moreover, the author takes into consideration also the present situation which is characterised by considerable alcohol consumption and a not very restrictive system concerning the distribution of alcoholic beverages in the Czech Republic. Due to the fact that this topic is not a typical one in the field of historiography, the author first tries to define basic notions related to the "alcohol question", points out to the importance of alcohol as a specific fact of the European civilisation and, at the same time, tries to emphasise some fundamental moments which had a significant influence onto the relation of the society towards this substance as well as onto its thinking about it (such as the discovery of distillation and, in the second case, the process of...

Nová, Magdaléna ; Zlatohlávek, Martin (advisor) ; Pujmanová, Olga (referee)
Sebastiano del Piombo in public collections of the Czech Republic Sebastiano del Piombo (his own name was Sebastiano Luciani) has been born at Venice in 1485. First art schooling obtained in Giovannni Bellini's workroom and soon he started to appreciate innovative works of Giorgione. Shorty he created his own art style combining Venetian coloristic tradition with monumentality of dimensions and forms. Around the first decade of 16th century he became an independent artist and obtained his first art commissions. In 1511 he went with his first patron Agostino Chigi to Rome. His first commission in Rome was to decorate Chigi's suburb villa. Here he learned that Rome art production is intimate to his own style which he polished in Venetia. Immediately after his arrival to Rome he is confronted with Raphael's artwork and they work together in Villa Farnesina. Later he had befriended Michelangelo who supported his Venetian friend in obtaining new orders and also with his own sketches. Relationship of those two artists is documented in their correspondence to these days. There are two Sebastian's works in the Czech Republic; a painting of a Madonna with a Veil and a drawing of Borgherini chapel decoration in a Rome San Pietro Church in Montorio. Both works are in possession of the Olomouc Archbishopric....

The Moravian Gallery's Islamic art collection as it relates to Central European oriental museology
Dvořáková, Sabina ; Gombár, Eduard (advisor) ; Veselý, Rudolf (referee) ; Pospíšilová, Dagmar (referee)
The cultural , political and economic relations of Europe and the Orient remain nowadays a top research priority. The fruit ful history of these relations is a key to understanding this, considering that many prejudices and preconceptions originate in historical experience - especially for Central Europe as it relates to its experience wi th the Ottoman empi re. The Oriental collect ions in the Czech Republic still lack a proper analysis, except for a few examples such as the National Museum or the National Gallery in Prague. These collections open a gate to the Islamic world and therefore deserve a systematized approach and a broader acceptance both in the general public and in the academic community.
