The Importance of Intelligence Activities During The Period of The Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia (1939-1945)
Vacková, Kateřina ; Michálek, Luděk (advisor) ; Střítecký, Vít (referee)
The research of this diploma thesis deals with the significance of the intelligence activity that was maintained on the territory of the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia in the period 1939-1945. One of the main goals of this work is to introduce the reader to the meaning and essence of intelligence activity at the time when it was labeled as illegal. This activity is subjected to a closer examination by the author in an effort to better outline the operation of intelligence activities during the occupation of the Czechoslovak territory. Another goal is to take into account the approaches of two great powers (Great Britain and the Soviet Union) to Czechoslovak intelligence activities, which brought valuable information during the Second World War. The last goal was complementary to understanding the distinction and fragmentation of intelligence activity on the territory of the Protectorate. It is an examination of the branches of the domestic resistance, which replaced the intelligence activity that could not be carried out by an established institution with legislative delimitation.

One of the chapters is also devoted to students as important actors in our history. The historical development of higher teacher education in Czechoslovakia is not omitted. Other chapters are logically divided according to the individual faculties of education and include the historical development of the faculty, the atmosphere in the 1980s, the course of the student strike and the further direction of the faculty after the Velvet Revolution. The individual faculties of education are then compared with each other. The work is based on the analysis of contemporary...

Without a trace
Pfann, Martin ; Babáková, Bernardeta (referee) ; Klímová, Barbora (advisor)
Without a trace explores the possibilities of working with the so-called memory of landscape, which I understand as a certain open, ongoing and changing composition of narratives, motifs, people and objects of different origins and different natures. These components and sources of memory all relate to the period of World War II and in particular to the theme of anti-fascist partisan resistance. The resulting intermedia work was preceded by field research, during which I gathered a wealth of material on the subject that led me to create a kind of alternative cartography. The map and the educational trail through the landscape of Vysočina, supported by text in the form of an audioguide, are the formats of the resulting work and an attempt to break away from the great simplistic narratives of war, partisans and resistance. They focus on the small stories of the actors of the resistance, not only Czech and Soviet partisans and refugees, but also local residents. The resulting format guides the user through the physical landscape and connects it to different interpretations of its history. My own version of the landscape memory is admittedly also influenced by my personal experiences from my childhood in Vysočina.

The Right to Resistance and Article 23 of the Charter of Fundamental Rights and Freedoms Abstract The aim of this diploma thesis is a thorough analysis of Article 23 of the Charter of Fundamental Rights and Freedoms (hereinafter referred to as the "Charter"), its issues, analysis of current sub-constitutional legislation and international comparison. Following on from the research project, the diploma thesis aims to find out to what extent the wording of Article 23 of the Charter corresponds to our historical experience, or whether Article 23 of the Charter is aimed at other situations (i.e. whether the wording of Article 23 of the Charter reflects our history in connection with by defining the right to protest in the Charter). The main methods chosen for writing the thesis were analysis, international comparison of foreign constitutions, and statistics. When writing the thesis, I drew on professional literature, professional articles, legal regulations, relevant jurisprudence and, last but not least, Internet sources that were the basis for the statistics of participants in the resistance against communism. The diploma thesis is divided into four main parts. The first part of the thesis is devoted to a historical excursion. For better understanding and context, various approaches to the right to resistance...
Transformation of lesser nobility in the Kingdom of Bohemia
KOREŠ, František
The victory of the imperial army in the Battle of White Mountain and the suppression of the Bohemian estate revolt paved the way for the reigning Habsburg dynasty towards a controlled transformation of the noble society in the Kingdom of Bohemia. Property penalties awarded to those who took part in the already finished resistance, the increase of the sovereign?s nobilitation powers on the background of the newly introduced aristocratic form of address and the enactment of the only permitted confession of Christian faith also influenced the existing situation of the lesser nobility and had a considerable impact on the lives of its members in all respects. Especially during the first decades after the Battle of White Mountain, one of the privileged social strata underwent a transformation that consisted of several mutually conditioned elements. Apart from a decrease in the land property in their management, after 1620, the representatives of the ancient knight families faced a regulation of the personal composition and inner hierarchy of their estate, diverse career challenges and the necessity to deepen or defend the confessional values of bygone times. The Czech historiography dealt with the history of the lesser nobility of the Kingdom of Bohemia of the late 17th century remained more or less marginally. Except for achieving a deepened knowledge of the social and economic consequences of the changes after the Battle of White Mountain, neither the current nor older research has succeeded in establishing how the intersection of the suggested social, political and religious measures instigated by the sovereign was reflected in the position, public conduct and the way of thinking as well as the scale of values of the knights. The author focused on looking for the answers to corresponding questions. Drawing on written sources varied in terms of art and content and on a combination of sociologizing and historical-anthropological methodological approaches, the author examined a number of prevailingly unexplored areas establishing the resulting image of lesser nobility after the Battle of White Mountain. The submitted interpretation was concentrated in three main chapters that gradually exposed the social, political and religious activities of the knights under the variable conditions of the era after the Battle of White Mountain to a more detailed examination. As this set of questions has become a subject of targeted 6 research for the very first time, it offers potential for a further reflection and development, both in terms of the topic, heuristic and methodology. The author thinks that this treatise should be viewed as the initial investment for the purpose of achieving a higher awareness about the past of this weakened but not inactive and anonymous estate.

The Year 1945 in Havlíčkův Brod
ŠTEFÁNEK, Jan
This thesis named "Year 1945 in Havlíčkův Brod" expresses the content in its title. It seeks to widen our knowledge of the reality of the last war year in this district town which lies in the very heart of our republic. The author tried to use the available resources to create an exact picture of the last month of the World War II and of the first weeks after its end in this town. The thesis has been divided into eight basic chapters. In the first chapter I explain why I have chosen this topic. In the second chapter I have mentioned important moments from the rich history of this old town and also today's view of the town. The third chapter concentrates on one specific period which is the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia. Here is described the arrival of the occupiers and their actions that restrained the liberties and the living conditions of the town's citizens before the end of the Third Empire. The fourth chapter mentions the state of the German army located in Czechoslovakia in the year 1945 and also the German air force unit JG 52, which was linked to Havlíčkův (German) Brod, because it was stationed here during the last days of the war and noted here its last successful actions. In the next and most extensive chapter I have focused on the pilots who were linked to the town. I have mentioned here not only the pilots who were born in Havlíčkův Brod and later went to France and the United Kingdom to fight for our freedom, but also their opponents from the above mentioned unit JG 52, because they also fought bravely and they deserve our remembrance despite the fact that they fought on the wrong side of the front. The fifth chapter is devoted to the resistance movements that fought the occupiers. The resistance is here divided into several groups: non-communists, communists, Sokol, fire-fighters, medics, railway employees, legionnaires and individuals. In the following, fifth, chapter I have mentioned the guerrilla resistance which was active especially during the last months of the World War II. I refer to guerrilla groups that operated in the area of Havlíčkův Brod and contributed to the final defeat of German forces in this region. The seventh chapter describes the May uprising in four places of the Havlíčkův Brod district. This is because the uprising didn't have the same course in all the places and in these locations, the condition were so diametrically different that they also influenced the result. For this comparison, I have chosen four places: Havlíčkův (German) Brod, Chotěboř, Přibyslav and Ledeč nad Sázavou. This comparison constitutes the basis of the work. The chapter ends with the arrival of the liberators and mass retreat of the German forces. The last chapter describes changes and reconstruction work in Havlíčkův Brod in the first post-war months, social life of its citizens, their problems and also first post-war organization of the committees in the town. This thesis tries to describe in detail the events of the last year of the war and the post-war life in the town. This is why the last two chapters are the most strssed and they constitute the basis of the work. Regarding the fact that there is no work dealing with this topic, this thesis should try to fill in the empty space.
