The aim of this Master Thesis is to present annotated translation of the text from the historical documentary by trilogy author Vitalij Shentalinskij "Raby Svobody". In the commentary attention was paid not only to problems at various language levels, but also to cultural and the other influences. The theoretical part, which is based on Czech and Slovakian theoretical works of Jiri Levy and Anton Popovic, could also help to facilitate deeper understanding the role of the translator and alternative ways of how the translator can de- duce a solution to particular translation problems. Translation and study of Crépuscules by Joël Casséus

This diploma thesis on Commented Translation of Joël Casséus' Crépuscules consists of translation of the first three chapters of the Quebec novel Crépuscules into the Czech language and subsequent expert commentary. This commentary focuses on the analysis of the novel genre that balances science fiction and modern myth, as well as the Christiane Nord analysis of the original text through which it explores external factors such as author, reader, intention, text function or its motive and intra-text factors such as theme and content, composition, nonverbal components, lexicon, syntax, and suprasegmental phenomena. Subsequently, in the commentary, we deal with translation problems, their solutions and applied translation procedures such as transposition, modification, compensation, generalization or specification.

Dealing with problems occuring in translations of German texts about protection of enviroment

The submitted bachelor thesis deals with methods and analysis of translations from German to Czech on environmental protection. The aim of the thesis is to analyse selected translations using the theory of skopos and outline of used translation strategies. The thesis summarizes the basic concepts of translation theory and deals with the rules of the translation process and its problems. Last but not least, it also includes an inventory of approaches to expert texts, their types and level of expertise. Further more, the chosen translated texts are individually analysed, both their original versions and the resulting translations and their process. At the end of each analysis, an overview of applied translation strategies with specific examples is available.

Annotated Czech Translation: The Irrationality of Alcoholics Anonymous; The Atlantic, 2015

In my bachelor thesis, I translate a story from English into Czech. It is called The Irrationality of Alcoholics Anonymous and was written by Gabrielle Glaser. The story was published in 2015. Its main subject is the inefficiency of Alcoholics Anonymous in the USA. The text presents more modern and effective ways of treatment. The thesis consists of two parts - translation and commentary - which consist of analysing the original text and typology of translation problems and shifts. In the first part, I translate selected parts of the story. In the proces, I focus on the main functions of the text and preserve the dominant function of the original. I try to convey the message in such a way which would be understandable for the receiver. I also aim at writing a text which would allow the reader to clearly grasp the concept. The second part is theoretical. I write up a fictitious translation assignment. I comment on the stylistics of the original and, consequently, analyse the internal and external factors of the original text according to Christiane Nord examining the lexis, syntax and pragmatics of the original. This thesis aims to translate the essay The Lion and the Mouse by Jill Lepore from English into Czech. The essay, published in The New Yorker in July 2008, follows the creation of E. B. White's book Stuart Little as a way of talking about children's literature in general. The second part of the thesis provides an analysis of the source text, describes the selected translation method, discusses the major translation problems along with their solutions and presents the translation shifts that occurred during the translation process. Annotated Translation - Vegetarian diet

The aim of this bachelor thesis is the translation of a German original text into Czech provided with a translation commentary. The translated text is an article published in 2011 in a German scientific journal Spiegel der Forschung n.28 (issue 1). The article deals with vegetarianism around the whole world and in Germany and tries to explain this diet to a wider audience. The translation commentary consists of a translation analysis of the original text, which contains a description of intertextual and extratextual factors based on Christiane Nord's theory. The thesis deals with translation methods, problems that occur during translation and their possible solutions based on the translation analysis.
