Transition as a way to self-acceptance
BÍLKOVÁ, Michaela
This bachelor thesis deals with the issue of transition, in the social, medical, and legal spheres. It explores the lives of trans people from their first awareness of their gender identity, through coming out, hormone therapy and gender-affirming surgery. It traces the critical moments of transition and complications that arise during it. It also explores socially conditioned attitudes and negative social reception. The empirical part is developed using a qualitative strategy, in-depth interviews with people who have gone through the process of transition. It explores how trans people experience their transition, how the decision to transition is made, their satisfaction with their transition, and more. It also focuses on the reaction of the close people and surroundings and the subsequent impact on the trans person.
Social Work and Transgender People
KUČERA, Charlie
This thesis explores the topic of transgender people as clients of social work. Its goal is to examine transgender experiences in the context of Czech social work. The first part is theoretical and focuses on terminology and current situation, mentioning legal framework and possible developements. The theoretical part includes a list of LGBT+ organisations which provide diverse kinds of support to transgender people. I chose qualitative approach for exploring this topic and conducted narrative interviews. For this purpose I contacted transgender people who had the experience of being clients of social services. I analysed the outputs by the open coding method inspired by the Grounded Theory. Based on the comparison between the interviews and expert advice I found out the following: the basic need among transgender clients of social work is for their experienced gender identity to be recognised and respected. It is also important for the quality of their mutual interaction that the social worker is aware of transgender issues. However, based on the collected transgender experiences, those needs are not always met. The level of knowledge on this topic and their stance varies among social workers in the Czech Republic. Finally, this thesis poses a question, whether social services providing accomodation might potentially expose transgender clients to more confrontational situations where gender is an improtant factor. Yet, it is concluded that the overall approach of the service matters the most. The results of this work will be presented to the FOKUS České Budějovice NGO employees.
Non-binary gender identities
STACHOVÁ, Kateřina
The main aim of this bachelor thesis is to introduce the notion of non-binary gender identities. The paper is divided into two sections, theoretical part and empirical part. The theoretical part defines the basic concepts such as sex, gender, gender identity, cisgender, transgender and explores the development of gender identity. This is followed by the introduction of the topic of non-binary gender identities, its history and its diagnostic classification. Subsequently the author describes the evolvement of non-binary gender identities, description on gender expression and dysphoria, social climate and sexual preferences. Finally, the theoretical part summarises the professional care of these individuals. In the empirical section the author describes and analyses how non-binary individuals perceive and experience gender, and other aspects related with this identity, such as the development of awareness of non-binary gender identity, means of expression of non-binary gender identity, gender dysphoria and finally how it impacted their life. The author collected data through in-depth semi-structured interviews that have been analysed by using an open and thematic coding. The research consists of 6 individuals that either identify as non-binary or their identity falls under non-binary gender identities. The results have been presented in both, individual case reports as well as inter-case comparisons. From the data collected it is possible to say that non-binary gender individuals have a fluid perception of gender; they feel the pressure of the society and its need to classify individuals; the development of the non-binary gender identity is more flexible, it does not follow a simple linear line; the realisation of this identity is dependent on previous knowledge about non-binary gender identities; the coming out occurs primarily between friends; the most commonly perceived manifestation of identity is the use of language; the most valuable positive reaction is the support of friends and family in the form of respecting and using their preferred pronouns and preferred way of addressing them; the worst negative reaction is the non-recognition of their identity; gender dysphoria is linked with the physical aspect and body parts, language expression of people surrounding them and with sex; non-binary individuals perceive the benefits of their identity positively.
Possible Uses of Camp in Interpretation of Czech Contemporary Cultural Background
DEMETER, Peter
Proposed dissertation is focusing on specific eccentric aesthetics based on hyperboles, ambivalent meanings and ironic attitude, which in Anglo-American background is so called camp derived from French. Camp origin can be found on the court of Louis XIV, where we can notice passionate tries to cultivate affected court-style culminating in baroque metaphor of the world as a theatre. Due to impact of modernity and postmodernity, scope of the camp extended to various cultural spheres and phenomenon began to corelate through its eccentricity with common marginality, respectively with something what is different from "normality" and "genuineness" also settled schemes of perception or ways of historical reflection. Goal of proposed dissertation is based on theoretical-historical interpretations to trace mentions of camp (mainly in literature) with focus on Czech background, where its rich interpretational potential can clarify most of social-cultural tendencies.

Sklenářová, Hana ; Koldinská, Kristina (advisor) ; Munková, Gabriela (referee)
Gender Reassignment from the Point of View of Social Law Abstract This thesis deals with legislation regulating gender reassignment in the Czech Republic, specifically conditions which allow a person to undergo gender reassignment, like chirurgical procedures and sterilization. I compared Czech legislation with opinions expressed by the European Court of Human Rights. I determined whether Czech legislation is consistent with development in other European countries. I focused in more detail on the topic of people who undergone gender reassignment getting married and being forced to end their current marriage. I also concentrated on payment of medical bills and retirement age within social insurance. I would like to spread awareness of gender reassignment with this thesis, which is not very widespread in society. I would also like to compare Czech legislation with ECHR's opinion and find out whether Czech legislation is too obsolete. Czech legislation demands chirurgical procedures and sterilization for allowance of gender reassignment, which is in contrast with ECHR's case law and other European states' legislations. 31 of 39 states of The Council of Europe permit transgender people gender reassignment without previous chirurgical procedures or sterilization. The case law and society have changed in the last...
Transsexuality in law
Nguyenová, Nikola ; Šustek, Petr (advisor) ; Hendrychová, Michaela (referee)
Transsexuality in law Abstract Gender reassignment is a topical issue that concerns only a relatively small number of people and is not given the necessary attention in the Czech legal environment, although the legislation is insufficient for a long time and does not comply with internationally recognized human rights standards. The legal system is based on the binary concept of gender and trans people are often unable to place themselves within it. The title of the thesis reflects the legal situation of trans people in the Czech Republic, as the legislation pays attention only to transsexuals and allows them to achieve life in the official gender they identify as. The law forgets other trans people who, for various reasons, do not wish to undergo surgical gender reassignment and, due to unfavorable legislation, have to deal with unpleasant and humiliating situations and discrimination. The thesis provides an explanation of the terminology of the issue, a description of the process of gender reassignment and an analysis of the legal status of transgender people in the Czech Republic with an emphasis on a critical analysis of key aspects of gender reassignment. In addition, the provisions of the Czech legislation in the Civil Code, the Act on Specific Health Services, the Act on Registries and the Act on...

Vaněčků, Alex ; Vozková, Anna (advisor) ; Vanek, Marián (referee)
The bachelor thesis deals with a co-occurrence of trans identity and autism, which has been a subject of academic interest in recent years. Its aim was to find out how these people relate to their dual diagnosis, what are their experiences with professionals, and whether they relate to autistic or trans communities. The theoretical part addresses three areas. The first part introduces the basic concepts related to trans issues and the process of transition in Czechia that most trans people go through. It also mentions the sources of stress that have psychological impacts on these people. The second section defines autism, introduces the concept of neurodiversity and briefly mentions gender differences in autism. The third part then describes the findings on the co-occurrence of autism and trans identity, the theories in consideration and the recommendations of the clinical guideline. The empirical part describes the conducted qualitative research. Two online interviews, one unstructured and one structured, were done with each of the three respondents. The interviews were transcribed and then subjected to thematic analysis. The results present the five themes that were identified in the interviews. These were: self-perception, difficulties and subjective experience, own double distinctness, the...

The diploma thesis "Attitudes of Pupils of Selected Upper Primary Schools towards LGBT" is concerned with the topic of different sexualities and attitudes towards LGBT among current upper primary school pupils. The thesis consists of two main parts, theoretical and practical. In the theoretical section, several chapters provide basic information about LGBT, sexuality, and other specific concepts in sexology. Feminism is followed by an elaboration of legislation relating to civil partnerships, gender reassignment, or child custody by gay couples. The last section is linked with next sub-chapter that addresses gay and lesbian parenting. As LGBT people, and homosexuals in particular, face hate speech in contemporary society, a short subchapter on homophobia has been included. The last sub-chapter of theoretical part is a brief summary of the whole chapter. The practical part follows, and the main aim of this part was to determine what specific attitudes and opinions are held by 8th-grade pupils in different primary schools in Prague, Vysočina, and Moravian-Silesian regions. The methodological tool used to conduct the research was a questionnaire. The questionnaire contained questions concerning public...

Čechová, Helena ; Smetáčková, Irena (advisor) ; Hrubý, Radovan (referee)
The thesis presents the processes of gender role transition and sex reassignment from the perspectives of psychology, medicine, and sociology. Its main focus is on the various aspects influencing the psyche of a person undertaking transition. The thesis investigates why trans identity is commonly viewed as a pathology and the impact of pathologization on the self-perception of trans people. Furthemore, the traditional outline of the transition process in Czech sexology is compared to some current international approaches. A section of the text addresses psychotherapy as a key factor in transition. A significant component of the thesis is that it takes a sociocultural viewpoint on gender identity and gender roles. One of the goals is to understand how medical experts dealing with trans identity conceptualize transition and how trans people themselves conceptualize it. The overall aim is to investigate how both of these sides influence each other and what psychological aspects enter the processes of gender role transition and sex reassignment. Key words: transsexuality, transgender, sex reassignment, gender identity, gender role.
