Characteristic of ESP written communication

Cílem této bakalářské práce je definovat, co je to angličtina pro specifické účely, vymezit její styly a žánry. Tato práce je rozdělena do tří hlavních částí. V první části je stručně představen anglický jazyk pro specifické účely a jeho historie. Jsou zde přiblíženy styly tohoto jazyka a je vysvětleno jejich použití. Ve druhé části jsem definoval žánry tohoto jazyka, vysvětlil účel každého z nich a ukázal, jak se dále dělí. Ve třetí části jsou prezentovány části textů, jež jsou analyzovány a porovnány: dva texty z elektrotechniky a dva texty z medicíny. V obou oblastech je porovnáván úryvek z populárně vědeckého článku a učebnice. Analýza je provedena ve čtyřech kategoriích: koheze, deixe, signposting a hedge. Tyto výsledky jsou porovnány nejdříve ve stejném oboru mezi rozlišnými styly a následně mezi odlišnými obory – elektrotechnika a medicína. Všechny výsledky jsou komentovány.
Alena Mornstajnova?s language and the style of her novels

This bachelor thesis deals with the language analysis of all novels by Alena Mornštajnová published so far. They include the following novels: Slepá mapa, Hotýlek, Hana, and Tiché roky. The author is understood to be a phenomenon of current literature. The thesis consists of two main parts - a theoretical one and a practical one. The first part inspects not only the characteristics of artistic functional style, but also the author´s biography. The practical part is divided into three plans: a thematic one, composition one and a linguistic one. The greatest attention is dedicated to the last plan. It examines language resources from the perspective of individual layers, which are the phonetic, morphological, lexical or syntactic layer. The objective of this bachelor thesis is to find out what changes language resources in the individual works by Alena Mornštajnová have gone through.
Possible Uses of Camp in Interpretation of Czech Contemporary Cultural Background

Proposed dissertation is focusing on specific eccentric aesthetics based on hyperboles, ambivalent meanings and ironic attitude, which in Anglo-American background is so called camp derived from French. Camp origin can be found on the court of Louis XIV, where we can notice passionate tries to cultivate affected court-style culminating in baroque metaphor of the world as a theatre. Due to impact of modernity and postmodernity, scope of the camp extended to various cultural spheres and phenomenon began to corelate through its eccentricity with common marginality, respectively with something what is different from "normality" and "genuineness" also settled schemes of perception or ways of historical reflection. Goal of proposed dissertation is based on theoretical-historical interpretations to trace mentions of camp (mainly in literature) with focus on Czech background, where its rich interpretational potential can clarify most of social-cultural tendencies.
Quantitative analysis of decorative elements´ presence to assess contextuality and a façade’s’ architectural quality in the historical city centre: Case study Brno

This paper is focused on the creation of the definition of a building façade´s´ architectural quality in the context of the surrounding buildings. The region was chosen because of the required buildings´ insulation. It´s presence will be confronted with the traditional use of architectural language. Reduction of the facade´s traditional elements will be evaluated by using simplified architectural composition categories. Positive and negative examples of the design will be determined.
Comparative analysis of professional texts on computer science

Cílem této bakalářské práce je srovnávací analýza odborných textů z oblasti informatiky. Jako téma pro materiály byla zvolena technologie VxLAN, která je nejčastěji používána v datových centrech. Prvním textem pro analýzu je článek z webového časopisu, druhým je technická dokumentace Request for Comments (RFC), třetím je video přednáška. Hlavním cílem této práce je prozkoumat vybrané materiály z různých pohledů a určit, do jaké míry se texty, psané a mluvené, liší v použití jazyka a jaké jsou jejich společné rysy. K dosažení tohoto cíle jsou materiály zkoumány z hlediska několika diskurzních rysů, mezi které patří funkce jazyka, styl a žánr, koheze, koherence a deixe. Práce se také zaměřuje na zjištění, zda jsou analyzované materiály typickými představiteli svých žánrů a stylů.
Language and Style of Underground Children's Books

Kubova, Katerina: Language and Style of Underground Children's Books: The Thesis. Prague: The Faculty of Arts of The Charles University, Institute of Czech Language and Theory of Communication, 2011. Thesis Advisor: Prof. PhDr. Petr Mares, CSc. This thesis aims to examine the linguistic and stylistic aspects of Czech underground literature for children. In the first part, it focuses on the specifics of children's literature and on the term "child aspect" which serves as a criterion for further analysis of selected texts. The thesis also presents selected writers of children's literature and their work. The linguistic and stylistic analysis is largely based on the book Současná stylistika (The Contemporary Czech Stylistics), which characterizes the individual linguistic levels of a fictional text. Texts for children, written by Egond Bondy and Ivan Martin Jirous, the most prominent figures of the Czech cultural underground of the 1970's and 1980's, are analyzed. Finally, the linguistic and stylistic features of the samizdat anthology Čert má kopyto… (The Devil Has a Hoof…), which represents a sum of the Czech underground literature for children, are examined, determining texts that meet both the criterion of the children's literature and the criterion of the underground poetics, and therefore...
Analysis of written styles of students in primary school

The thesis deals with the analysis of written expression in the seventh year of primary school. It analyze pupil's essays that reflect the skills and knowledge but also focus on ignorance across all levels of the Czech language. The thesis serves as a valuable material to study skills in writing. The seventh year on grammar school is important for the pupils, because they can tranfer to high school. In the theoretical part we describe the methodology of analysis and we also mention other thesis dealing with this topic. We will deal with the concept of language and style in general, and consequently the relation of these two components. There are mentioned the features of the essays, the criteria for their evaluation and description of individual style units. It also includes requirements for students, which are written in education plan. On the concepts of education plan are based objectives in practical part of the thesis. The end of the theoretical part is focused on the psychological development of the pupils. Most of the theoretical knowledge is evidenced in the practical part. The practical part contains analysis of individual essays of the 7th grade students in terms of composition, spelling, stylization sentences, vocabulary and stylistic compliance department. Kámen a bolest. How the Novel's World Was Made?

This diploma thesis deals with Karel Schulz's novel Kámen a Bolest. In particular, it analyses its language, stylistic devices and scene composition. It also focuses on portrayal of characters and their life in Schulz's textual world. The conclusion suggests an overall interpretation of the signification of this novel, thus offerings a deeper insight into the work. It elucidates its peculiar emotional appeal and narrative strategy with which the author has created his fictional world. The methodology of this thesis is based on Přemysl Blažíček's literary-scientific and interpretative approach.
