Miroslava Kotvová ABSTRACT: Bachelor thesis with the title the Development of the language skills of CODA is focused on the description of the development and acquisition of language hearing children of deaf parents, both spoken language and sign. The aim is to describe the development of language competence CODA studied to the basis of the available literature and interviews with CODA individuals. The theoretical part presents the field of the education of the deaf, culture and the Deaf community, sign language, but also a description of the acquisition of sign and spoken language. The practical part consists of the case studies of CODA which were based on the interviews with the individuals or even with them and their parents. The work highlights the problem of bilingual individuals growing up in a home environment with the sign language with the influence of the spoken language of the major society, but also the difficulty and importance of the election code of communication for deaf parents. Compare of the situation of sign language interpreters in the TV news in the Czech Republic and Finland

The bachelor thesis deals with the topic of sign language interpreters working in television news in the Czech Republic and Finland. In the introductory chapter, the attention is given to the description of interpretation in television news and its comparison with other types of sign language interpretation. After that the history of sign language interpreters working in television news in the Czech Republic is described. The main attention is given to the News in the Czech sign language (News). Its history of this News is described and the thesis is focused on the work of sign language interpreters in this television program. Attention is given to the whole process, from the admission of interpreters to the description of their work in the News in Czech sign language. In subsequent chapters the situation in Finland is described. As the situation in Finland is different from that in the Czech Republic, the description is conceived differently. Initially, the attention is devoted to the description of interpreters' work in Finnish television news and subsequent chapters focus on the description of the Finnish News in sign language (News) - Yle Uutiset viittomakielellä. Specifics of Translating Biblical Texts into Czech Sign Language

The bachelor thesis is concerned with the principles of translation of biblical texts into Czech Sign Language. The theoretical part of the thesis discusses Bible translation in general, and more specifically, in relation to sign language translation. It summarises existing findings from studies on foreign translations of biblical texts into sign languages, such as American Sign Language, Japanese Sign Language, Sign Language Lesco. The practical part provides an analysis of the Dictionary of Signs for Christian Concepts for Deaf People and two video translations of passages from New Testament into Czech Sign Language, making recommendations for updates to the Dictionary based on these findings. The thesis then brings together the theoretical knowledge and the present findings and proposes a set of principles and mandatory guidelines for translation of biblical texts into Czech Sign Language. Spoken and Sign Language Interpreter Training in the Czech Republic and Austria

The thesis focuses on possibilities of spoken and sign language interpreter training in the Czech Republic and Austria. The theoretical part describes the situation of the deaf in the Czech Republic and in Austria and explains the terms connected with communication of the deaf. Furthermore, it contains a brief overview of the history of spoken and sign language interpreter training and a description of the conditions for interpreters in both countries respectively. The most detailed chapters of the theoretical part deal with training institutions for spoken and sign language interpreters. The main focus is on the Institute of Translation studies at the Faculty of Arts of Charles University in Prague and the Department of Translation Studies at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of University of Graz. The empirical part presents the results of a questionnaire survey conducted among Master students of the two institutes who evaluated how well the university prepares them for their future career.

Information about Sign Language in Czech and Foreign Introductions to Linguistics

The aim of the bachelor thesis is a summary of informations about sign languages in Czech and English introductions to the study of language. This thesis analises each linguistic book focusing on informations about sign languages, which those books included. Furthermore it focuses on the description of differences in the extent of informations about sign languages in the monitored publication. It also summarizes found informations concerning sing languages and compares informations about sign languages included in Czech and English introductions to the study of language. Role shifting in Czech Sign Language

The bachelor's thesis focuses on the expression of role shifting in Czech sign language. The goal of the thesis is to describe the mechanisms of expressing role shifting in Czech sign language within our survey and comparing the results with findings from abroad. The principles of work are mostly based on foreign literature and they are compared with Czech sign language. A part of the thesis is a DVD of deaf respondents' recordings who use Czech sign language and which illustrate the way of expressing role shifting in Czech sign language.

Primary school pupils awareness of Deaf community

The diploma thesis is elaborated on the topic of awareness of primary school pupils about the Deaf community, in general about people with hearing impairment. The aim of the work is obtain information about how students are informed about the issue of the Deaf community and to increase this knowledge using research methods. The theoretical part is focused on a general introduction to the issue of people with hearing impairment, the division of hearing impairments, terms used in this field, as well as on the communication of people with hearing impairment and compensatory aids. One of the chapters then brings important knowledge about the Deaf community, their culture and also about several organizations associating people with hearing impairments in general and their surroundings. The next chapter deals with the possibilities of obtaining information about the culture of the Deaf, while the work lists the Internet, magazines, lectures and sign language courses as sources of information. Its subchapter then specifically focuses on the possibilities of obtaining this information by primary school pupils and specific attempts to inform this age group that have taken place in the past. Handling complaints in an organization providing interpretation of Czech sign language

The diploma thesis is focused on handling complaints in organizations providing social services. The process of handling complaints is conceived in the work as a process which, if properly set up and coordinated within the organization, can be useful in improving the services provided. The thesis summarizes professional theoretical knowledge in the field of complaint handling, describes the Czech legislative anchoring of work with complaints and offers an overview of possible processes procedures, rules and practices that can be used in practice. The practical part of the work is focused primarily on handling complaints in the field of providing interpretation of Czech sign language. Part of the diploma thesis is qualitative research, in which the process of handling complaints in the selected organization is diagnosed in detail. The results of the research include suggestions for possible procedures and recommendations that can help the organization streamline the complaint handling proces and can also be an inspiration for organizations that are open to a critical approach to their own complaint handling and possible implementation of changes.
