Imagination and Poetics: Means of Expression of British Progressive Rock in 1967-1977

The topic of the thesis is the interpretation of some key means of expression of British progressive rock music, from its heyday at the turn of the sixties and seventies through the period of search and experimentation in the mid-seventies to the onset of punk and the change in the arrangement of the aesthetic standards of rock and the breadth of popular music in general. The work primarily deals with the ways in which the British progressive rock scene communicated with the public, i.e. the analysis of content components such as the themes of the compositions and the related graphic and visual presentation of the key musical works of the time. The work tries to trace and describe the connections between the individual expressive means of progressive rock in the British music scene, i.e. literary, musical and visual means, including innovative ways of communicating with the audience in the form of concerts and theatrical elements of the presentation.

Peter the Apostle in the Gospel of Luke and in the Acts of the Apostles

Apoštol Petr v Lukášově evangeliu a ve Skutcích apoštolů Kamila Hanáková Abstract The bachelor's thesis deals with Saint Peter, included by Jesus Christ among his apostles and from the first given a privileged position as the "rock" on which Jesus was building his church. This made Saint Peter one of the most important figures in early Church history. One of the reasons why I chose Saint Peter as a topic is his personality, generally known to be on the energetic and intense side. His thinking, however, is characterised by naiveté, fear, a sense of justice and honest regret. All this makes him relatable in my eyes as his views mirror those of a regular person. Although he did not seem to be particularly religious in the beginning, through his faith he soon became aware of the magnificence of Jesus Christ. I focus on Saint Peter as depicted mostly in the Gospel of Luke and the Acts of the Apostles as I believe these books illustrate his personality and activities well. Different prevalence of substance abuse at different types of music events: comparison of drum and bass party and rock concert in Prague

The objective of my bachelor's paper is to determine, through the use of a terrain study, if visitors of drum and bass parties prefer addictive substances more than visitors of rock concerts. I conducted a terrain study in Prague and the assumption was that the type and quantity of addictive substances would vary. The theoretic section of my work is focused on characteristics of individual music genres and their supporters, further mentioned are addictive substances used at music events and their subsequent risks and impact on the person taking them and the environment around them. The conclusion of the theoretical section is about harm reduction services, hints at their usefulness, and also on the lack thereof in the music genre environment. The practical section is dedicated to the analysis of data gathered by me in a terrain study conducted directly on music events of a given genre. Respondents were given a short questionnaire and then all data was analyzed by me. Respondents were chosen deliberately, they had to have been a supporter of the given genre, therefore I worked with an unrepresentative sample. Soundscape of Prague Psychedelic Guitar Rock Scene

Since its beginnings in the 1960s, psychedelic rock music and "psychedelic sound" sound has become an integral part of rock and Western popular music. This scope of this PhD thesis covers the performance of psychedelic rock music in Prague, Czech Republic, i.e. Prague's psychedelic soundscape (Shelemay 2006). The structure of the thesis is loosely inspired by the scapes concepts as defined by Arjun Appadurai (1996). First, it summarizes the development of the "psychedelic sound" and employs ethnographic research in order to elucidate what this sound means to its agents within the studied soundscape. Subsequently, it proceeds to discover who the agents of this scene are, how the roles of the performers and the audience blend together, how the agents understand their music within the multi-genre context of the scene, and what the phenomenon of psychedelic rock music means to the agents - both in terms of its sonic elements and the "ritual" (Turner 1969) aspect of live performances, often associated with the use of mind-altering substances. Selected localities of Prague for teaching biology and geology

This bachelor thesis is focused on the most important Prague locations that are suitable for biological and geological excursion. Very important is practical teaching biology and geology. It is desirable that students understand the processes of ancient geological history, that they have seen with their own eyes preserved fossils and that they know how plants and animals which are integral part of teaching biology look like. In this point of view the theoretical teaching in the classrooms is insufficient. In the work is included biological and geological characteristics of selected sites aimed at their geologicla formation, rock, fossils, plants and animals that are found there. Itinerary for each excursion should be designed. There are links to worksheets made by methodical portal RVP which are the part of my work. Short introduction of teaching biology and geology in foreign countries and their access to excursion is presented as well. This thesis was designed for teachers of biology and geology to make preparations of their own excursions easier.

The role of NG2 glycoprotein in regulation of Rho/ROCK signaling

NG2 is a transmembrane glycoprotein, which takes part in cellular processes such as adhesion, migration or invasivity, i.e., in processes important in tissue development but also in tumor and metastasis formation. Among other things, NG2 leads to an inhibition of neurite growth, and probably plays an important role in amoeboid type of cell invasion. These processes are in many respects similar. Both in inhibition of neurite growth and in mesenchymal-amoeboid transition occur morphological changes which lead to a loss of cell protrusions and a transition to a rounded shape. In both of these processes Rho/ROCK signaling also plays a crucial role. Connection between NG2 and the Rho/ROCK signaling pathway has been indicated in the process of inhibition of neurite growth. The mechanism of Rho/ROCK signaling regulation by NG2 glycoprotein is, however, still unknown. In this thesis is proposed a molecular mechanism of Rho/ROCK pathway activation by glycoprotein NG2 which relies on the NG2/MUPP1/Syx signaling complex where the scaffold protein MUPP1, bound to activated NG2, enables binding and activation of the Syx protein. Syx then as RhoGEF activates Rho/ROCK signaling, and the activated Rho/ROCK pathway leads to inhibition of neurite growth, increased cell contractility and traction forces. These processes are...

Finnish non-standard language and its use in the lyrics of modern songs Abstract The bachelor thesis deals with comparison of Finnish non-standard language and partly standard language in the lyrics of rock band Haloo Helsinki! and rap singer Cheek. Finnish non-standard language differs markedly from standard language in that it does not have a standard form and it is used primarily in oral communication. Moreover, Finnish non-standard language can, and is, also used for lyrics. The first theoretical part of thesis is an introduction to Finnish language varieties, non-standard and standard language and lyrics. The second practical part of thesis focuses on analysing the selected lyrics for the morphological, the syntactic and the lexical level of language. Non-standard language is analysed in all three levels of language, standard language only in the syntactic level of language.

Role of music group Extempore in the czech underground

This thesis deals with the music group Extempore since its foundation by Jaroslav Jeronym Neduha in 1973 until its annulment by Mikolas Chadima in 1981. The thesis shows the important moments of the group and its members. Jaroslav Jeronym Neduha was Extempore's frontman by the year 1979 then he left the group and its management handed to Mikolas Chadima. Both gave to Extempore its characteristic style in the musical aspect, lyrics and performance. Extempore gained lots of fans, so the State Security focused on them as a obnoxius music group. The thesis has the aim to reveal Extempore's role in Czech musical underground. Firstly I defined alternative culture in relation to underground and official culture with focus to the music. Also I described Prague's unofficial big beat scene between 1973 - 1981. Primarily the thesis is focused on alternative music scene and musical underground. The review also contains other noncommercial movements during that time - folk association Safran and younger musical movement New Wave that inspirated Chadima's Extempore. Since the 1979 Extempore has been more and more pressed to the illegality until they got ban to perform their music in any Prague's club. Study of the behavior of selected rocks at high temperatures

The diploma thesis deals with the observation and diagnostics of transformations that take place in stone slabs of different mineralogical composition during heating to high temperatures. The theoretical part of the thesis deals with a summary of available information about selected types of rocks. Furthermore, it presents findings from the experimental thermal loading of a granite sample. The principles and instruments of laboratory experimental methods that are used to judge the resistance of rocks are described in detail. In the experimental part, the testing methodology is proposed, the procedure of production of rock test specimens is described and the way in which the thermal loading of stone slabs took place is explained. The results of the experiments are shown in the tables and graphs. A comparison of individual tests and properties of selected samples and evaluation of the obtained results is performed.

Myths of the czech music alternative in the 1980s

Dissertation "Myths of the Czech Music Alternative in the 1980s" presents an anthropological view of the phenomenon of a parallel culture in a limiting situation. On the basis of biographical narratives, additional interviews and data gained from other types of sources, "myths" are constructed for seven major figures of the Czech alternative scene. This is an insider's ethnomusicological interpretation, based on Mircea Eliade's and Bronislaw Malinowski's concepts of myth as recurrent and exemplary models of behavior. The described personalities, Jazz Section (Prometheus), Miroslav Wanek ("hero's journey") Karel Babuljak ("search for paradise lost"), Pavel Zajíček (Odysseus), Mikoláš Chadima ("Rebel"), Oldřich Janota (Hermes), and Marka Míková (Psyche), represent some of the main trends in creative processes of the Czech music alternative scene with myth being used as a metaphor. The metaphor is understood here in the terms of Timothy Rice, i.e. as an organization principle of our thinking, as well as an illuminating image.
