Reservoirs - Brno, Zluty kopec (Yellow hill)
Goncharenko, Anna ; Stýblo, Jakub (referee) ; Nový, Vítězslav (advisor)
The diploma thesis deals with the creation of a design for a new building of the center of contemporary art and architecture and the use of existing reservoirs on Yellow Hill in Brno with the possibility of changing their original function. The work deals with the possibilities of processing the original terrain and the connection of the proposed new buildings to existing reservoirs. Architecturally, it explores the possibilities of designing new buildings contextually with the current architectural expression of the surrounding buildings and past architecture. The current situation is that a beautiful architectural and engineering monument, such as the reservoirs on Yellow Hill, is practically closed to the eyes of ordinary people. Only one of the three reservoirs is open to visit - the oldest brick reservoir built in 1872. The main goal of my work was therefore to make the reservoir area accessible to the public and to give people the opportunity to visit all three reservoirs. To this end, it was necessary to design entrance pavilions and safe entrances to the reservoirs and to fill the reservoirs with a new function, because the reservoirs were terminated in 1997, when they were disconnected from the water supply network.

The diploma thesis is focused on the theme of the garden of artists and the principles of their renewal. The selection of artists, prominent creative personalities, was directed to represent as many artistic disciplines as possible. Selected gardens were analyzed; Studied the original condition, followed the development and, of course, the current appearance of the garden. It was studied whether the artistic focus in some way did not look like a garden, and whether the gardens fall or should fall under some conservation monument. As a result of this analytical part, it was the pronouncing of the connecting elements, the fact that the gardens are something specific, what their atmosphere, identity is. In the design section, three gardens were selected, where the type of renovation and restoration was appropriately selected. The selection of the restoration was based on the criterion of history, present, but also intention for the future. At the end of the thesis general principles were stated in the newly created interventions in art gardens.

The bachelor thesis deals with the case of demolition of the Transgas administration buildings in 2015-2019 which evoked a broad discussion among specialist as well as public community. The Transgas buildings built in Vinohradská třída, Prague 2, are presented in the work in context with the development of the Czechoslovak architecture and urbanism of the second half of the 20th century. Concrete influences and circumstances that influenced the construction of the buildings and their architectural style ranging between brutalism, high-tech and postmodernism are described. The work focuses on the analysis how the process of declaring of the Transgas to be the architecturally valuable object proceeded and shows at the same time the controversial opinions expressed by the expert community. The bachelor thesis points to the crisis of temporary landmark protection policy by which the Ministry of Culture as well as other authorities of landmark protection refuse to protect the valuable piece of architecture because it represents the socialist era, which, as it is in the case of the Transgas, may lead as a result to the demolition of a valuable object. Czech Krumlov - Revitalization Ambit Zone
Benedová, Kateřina ; Vydrová, Zdeňka (referee) ; Rusín, Tomáš (advisor)
The project of revitalisation of the Ambit area in Český Krumlov emerges from the current needs and the future strategic visions of the town as well as from its historical context and cultural heritage. It proposes a natural and simple cultivation of the grounds and their transformation into a park and riverside promenades creating an agreeable background for the pedestrian paths joining the downtown with the housing areas in the suburbs. This environment creates a set for a multifunctional cultural and community centre. The historically protected building, originally a cloth factory, is transformed into a hotel with a restaurant and connected to two new objects of the cultural centre. In their volume and location these buildings don’t exceed the maximal height level of the surrounding area and respect its natural configuration as well as its historical value. Both houses correspond not only in terms of materials but also in their simple conception free of all unnecessary formalities. They are not trying to compete with the town and its genius loci; on the contrary, they attempt to create a dignified entrance wordy of the town. Their floor plan creates a coherent space with a certain amount of tension created by the very not-orthogonal arrangement.
