Journalist 2.0 Alexandr Mitrofanov: "an old-school journalist" in online environment
Krupa, Adam ; Hájek, Roman (advisor) ; Zápotocký, Jan (referee)
The thesis studies the way the journalists, who were used to publish their work in printed media, act in the environment of social network, namely Twitter. I primarily focused on a Twitter account of an influential political columnist, Alexandr Mitrofanov, who had been a long-term contributor to Právo newspaper. Mitrofanov has adapted very well on Twitter. Recently he is mostly known as a micro blogger, he has more than fifty thousand followers. The objective of the research is to find out how and in which way Mitrofanov is active on his Twitter account, what contributions, articles, or comments he posts and in which topics he is interested. I have used the Quantitative content analysis method to assess Mr. Mitrofanov's tweets. The results of the research indicate that Mitrofanov posts tweets every day, there is almost no difference between weekdays and weekends. He mainly makes comments on his follower's tweets. Alexandr Mitrofanov rarely retweets. He hardly ever uses hashtags. Mitrofanov's aversion to use this key element of Twitter (the tool which helps to sort topics and keep track of the news) is a proof that despite of high degree of adaptation to the online environment, Alexandr Mitrofanov still remains an "old-school journalist".

Master's Thesis focuses on current position of ethics in the Czech media. The main subject is the code of ethics (or code of conduct). The first part of the thesis offers a theoretical background of the topic. I am pursuing the terminology referred to the media ethics topic. Together with scholarly resources I provide definitions of terms such as ethics, morality and code of ethics in media. Summary of relevant Czech codes of conduct is essential for this thesis. First, I present the codes in a brief list and table, more detailed analysis follows. The focus is on differences and specification of each of them. After that I present an analysis of ethical rules valid in foreign countries - European states and the United States in particular. Theoretical part is followed by practical part of the thesis. It is based on interviews with experts which are semi- anonymous and semi-structured. I interview eight employees of Czech media after formulating several hypotheses. I chose experts who have been working in media for many years - mainly chief editors or top managers in press, TV, radio or online media. One of the most important chapters is the confirmation or refutation of the stated hypotheses. The image of television journalist in american television series (from Mary Tyler Moore Show to Newsroom)
Pavelková, Eva ; Kruml, Milan (advisor) ; Jirák, Jan (referee)
The objective of this master thesis The image of television journalist in American television series is to unveil personality traits of main characters in five selected American series during five decades (from the beginning of the 1970s to present) by means of combination of interpretative reading and semiotic (visual) analysis, and by that interpret representation of journalists. Subsequently the typologies of journalistic characters by Brian McNair and Joe Saltzman are used to categorize 27 central figures to types or stereorypes. Majority of characters combined more different types but it could be stated that all images of journalists were positive - possibly due to bigger popularity among viewers. Simultaneously it is neccesary to point out that characters across analysed series classified to same categories are not fully identical - characters show enough resemblance for type identification but similarities are outweighed by differences.

This diploma thesis studies the life story of czech journalist Jan Štern and analyzes his articles in the magazine "Listy", which was illegal in the former Czechoslovakia until the end of 1989. The main goal is, in addition to the description of Štern's life when he went through the concentration camp, the Prague Uprising and the revolution against the communist regime, to find answers of research questions: "Do the texts encourage the reader to do something specific, if so, to what?", "What is the nature of the texts: descriptive, entertaining, contemplative, reviewing or dictating?" and "What is the focus of the texts, are they of a purely political nature?". The evaluation was based on a combined content analysis of 62 articles from the 70s and 90s of the 20th century and the results show that 74 % of the texts do not contain a direct call or persuasion, 79 % of articles can be described as a contemplation or combination of contemplation and description and every arcticle responds to a political issue.
